Are women getting angrier?

Yes people do seem angrier. We have a lot to contend with, having lived through better times the country is regressing at a when at our age we need more healthcare, warmth and a stable economy. The strikers are actually harming us all, the country is already on its knees and as pensioners we have to manage our incomes, we can’t strike. It’s thermostat wars in our house, if my partner lived alone he wouldn’t have any heat on. Brrrrhh,,

I think there are two kinds of "anger". One is the explosive "throwing things" anger which includes blood boiling, and the other is irritation/grumpiness/annoyance. I rarely go in for the former and am more inclined towards the latter, which is a bit peely-wally and insidious - and can be nasty. Not an attractive trait.

Why are you angry about the GRR bill in Scotland. Can’t come quick enough. It’s a Scottish act, to give trans people equal rights. Does it affect you directly? Are you Scottish?

I get angry about a lot of things, but do my best to use that anger to change things. Getting organised with others to at least alter what we are able to. This year my anger made me persist until the local tescos got a disabled buggy. for the first few days there was only my signature in their book but my goodness how much it is used now and I know that it is helping others to be independant and be able to choose their own things and of course I am very grateful to use it myself. So got a result from starting with being angry and am pleased with it, whatever else may have worked or not it was something that was positive and I plan to carry on in the same way next year. I would also say that I do go out of my way to thank people who are helpful and put emails into their head offices so I do praise as well as get angry.

I am furious with the pack of lies told by this gov't to get into power, from the promise on the bus of £325m or whatever it was to we don't plan to privatise the health service. I can no longer get my foot treatment free, nor can I have my eyes tested annually and if I want to park outside hospital it costs a fortune. This is privatisation of some services, a friend paid for a new hip rather than wait. Even worse, we can't get this gov't out till the PM says so and he won't for 2 yrs. Makes my blood boil.

Never seen the point in being outwardly angry, not saying I don't ever feel angry. Nowadays I feel more perplexed at what people say or do. Women are certainly a lot louder, amazed at the amount of shouting at children outside rather than take a few steps to go nearer and speak to a child. To much bother in their "no one has ever been so busy as I am" life.

I get angry at women telling me I’m very angry when I am just expressing an opinion like their precious men would! I’m angry at women who kow-tow to all man’s opinions disregarding the fact that it might be a stupid opinion.

Since splitting with my ex twelve years ago I’m hardly ever angry and when I am, such as at the world situation I’m much more able to handle it. If I can do something I will, if not then I don’t fret about it. I have noticed however that people of all ages and genders are much more ready to be offended at nothing, in my opinion.

I just feel that as I’ve got older I’m more confident and able to express my anger/disappointment etc rather than bottling it up and letting it bug me for a long time. So no, not angrier, but more vocal.

Can't be bothered to get angry cos if I can't change it, I just accept it and relax in my little corner of the world.

I don't think I am angrier nowadays. Perhaps thoughtful about how some people nowadays immediately take umbrage at things. I remember once learning at a team leaders training "not everything is your fault " funnily enough a very good friend was very brusque on the phone the next day to me. I normally would have thought "oh crud what have I done" I didn't , I used the technique. It turns out just before I rang she had had a rip roaring fight with her husband. Amazingly since then, that particular (only ) advice I took from that course, I try to remember.

Think of the past upheavals and hard times tho, we got through it without turning into Mr and Mrs Angry didn’t we?
There are always wars or recessions and whatnot and poor governments at times.
I think maybe this angry stuff comes from rolling news and social media.

But I don't understand why so many have to litter their posts with stupid, made up expletives if full or short form, like WTAF, WTF, CF, as well as just uncalled for words which seem to be used to show their degree of anger. I can understand use of bad language when spoken but to take the time to include it in written posts seems ridiculous.

I don't think women are getting angrier, as I think quickness to anger is a trait that is inherited - you're either an 'angry' person or you're not.

I'm one of those who are quick to anger - and really wish I was more chilled or laid back.

Certain circumstances, however, do exacerbate angriness - I was tested to my limits over Brexit and Covid, for example.

I think the angrier amongst us just show it more nowadays, rather than internalizing it so much. Whether that's a good thing or not depends on the circumstances.

There are very few things that make me really angry. I hate injustice, At almost 82 it's not wise to get my blood pressure raised so I am generally quite calm and rational about most things. I don't read newspapers, watch very little news programmes on TV, have no time for so called Celebrities and walk the dog if I need to calm down.

I wished I had had the perspective on life that I have now 20 years ago. I would have delivered a few well targeted corkers at deserving people like several rude and obnoxious family members. I have since dropped them and life is bliss. No more ' look at how wonderful I am' and 'what use are you to me'.

Strangely enough, doodle dog, I got an advert just under your post with a woman beaming and hugging her child. Most appropriate for once! I was just trying to think of the last time I got really angry- couldn't remember. Certainly not at any of the daft and rude things that occur on gransnet from time to time.

On more than one occasion I've stated a (political) view emphatically but without rudeness or 'incivility' and got this response... "you seem angry". And always from a man.

Some men cannot tolerate women having strong opinions - especially opinions that challenge their own. I've learned not to respond - if you do, you get told to "lighten up" or "don't take things so seriously love".

Is it any wonder women sometimes get angry when men try to demean them in this way?
