I’m a older female, all my life from teenage years I have plucked my eyebrows, and more recently plucked in a thinner line and somewhat alittle uneven. So I’ve decided to let them grow, probably with age they are taken it’s time but I’m persevering, and hope to take a treat to a beauty salon to have them done nicely. I’ve heard/seen so much of all different ways of having good brows, but do they still pluck the brows? Anyone out there can enlighten me?

Never plucked my eyebrows as they never were bushy but fine, now they are practically non existent as they are fair , have had them dyed, the beautican just paints the eyebrows ,never plucks, and it lasts 3 - 4 weeks, I once came out with something like 2 large black caterpillars walking across my forehead, never went there again, should have known really ,she looked just the same

I had the Leo Sayer look in the PM Maternity hospital with second DD in the 70s. My bump was so big I had to have something to wash quickly and dry or I was on the Gaviscon. My other DD squealed and would not come to me when I came in from the hairdresser.

Mine are sparse and grow long stiff hairs which I cut with scissors so I can draw nice eyebrows on the site with a Rimmel eyebrow pencil. I always use the wee brush on the end of the pencil to make the line look more natural.

I too am of the generation which overplucked eyebrows, but fortunately mine do have something resembling normal brows left. My problem is they are grey, so I go every few weeks to have them tinted which is far easier than painstaking filling in of gaps every morning. It makes such a difference to my overall appearance when I have eyebrows.

I look like Coco the Clown on my 70s passport - plucked arched eyebrows and a startled expression! Next passport was the Leo Sayer look - think curly perm!

Overplucked and never grown back -mine are awful now they have patches of white .
I look like a Scottie dog .
I'll try the Maybelline Tattoo brow as used by ilovebeigecardigans and the ELF pencil recommended by Aioop !

The best products I've tried are made by Benefit .
They don't last long and work out to be really costly.

I use Avon gel brows which is okay and lasts a long time , but isn't a patch on Benefit .

It's important to go lighter or risk the Coco The Clown look or in my case Coco The Clown meets Scottie dog .

I have the 80s skinny brows, that have never thickened since then. I get them waxed every so often to catch the randoms and then fill them in with a pencil/crayon by ELF, it's retractable and has a brush at the other end to blend. I use the taupe colour as it's not as severe as some other colours.

I have mine waxed and at 75 still have busy eyebrows

I had microblading, it was 2 years ago and still looks good. I used to spend ages trying to draw them on, the colour was never quite right and they rarely looked the same.

What is an eyebrow 'tail' I've never heard of it!

Mine were really bushy and since the age of 13 I plucked them into a really thin line. At the age of 70 I got fed up with doing it and also couldn't really see them well enough, but they won't grow, or if they do, its just random ones that stick out all over the place! I just pluck out the biggest and most random ones now, I do have a fringe.

I get mine threaded around every 2 months ...much better than waxing

My mum was the first one to pluck my eyebrows.
God it hurt. But I persevered 😄

Urmstongran Sat 10-Dec-22 19:09:40

That made me laugh Mikkima! 🤣

I did pluck mine in the 70’s but luckily they did grow back. I went through a phase of having them waxed. Now grey, I leave well alone but use an eyebrow powder from Avon to give them a bit of colour and shape. Good enough for my needs.

Mine are still brown but sparse and no tail any more. I use a brown eyeshadow and a very small, thin brush to fill the holes and slightly extend them and some sort of eyebrow mascara which has filaments in to brush the actual eyebrow into shape. The filaments make each hair a little bit thicker. There are loads of shades too.

I’ve never plucked or done anything to my eyebrows they are fine as they are so I m told

Hellogirl1 Sat 10-Dec-22 18:46:21

I`m another who`s never plucked her eyebrows, I`ve never dared!

Mikkima Sat 10-Dec-22 14:31:20

I have invigilated several exams during the teenage passion for eyebrows which looked like they were rubber stamped on to faces. Theres nothing more scary on a monday morning than standing in front of 100 pairs of eyebrows all staring at you!grin

Oldbat1 Sat 10-Dec-22 14:19:11

I obviously have my fathers gene and my eyebrows continue to grow long and bushy. Until my 50s my eyebrows looked good and were a nice shape. After my hysterectomy induced menopause things changed! I should really go every 6 weeks for an eyebrow wax, shape and length trim which costs £9. Must make the effort again. They could also do with being tinted.

Shinamae Sat 10-Dec-22 14:10:17

I never ever have plucked my eyebrows, probably because I am so shortsighted I would never have been able to manage it properly!!I have had my eyebrows micro bladed twice and I also go every four weeks to have them waxed and dyed…

Jaxjacky Sat 10-Dec-22 14:03:02

bevisp1 I think most salons wax, thread or sometimes sugar eyebrows now.

Yammy Sat 10-Dec-22 14:00:08

My DDs have always laughed at my eyebrows, they are there but have always been fair and fluffy. I did try dying them with a tattoo brow but it sets like plastic and you are meant to peel it off, I forgot to peel them and went out with two brown slugs. I think I am going to try some of the products mentioned. At the moment I use Benefit Give me brow which is a fluffy colour but is not permanent and only covers the hair you already have.

CoolCoco Sat 10-Dec-22 13:52:19

Threading is better than plucking. They can also dye your eyebrows.

Urmstongran Sat 10-Dec-22 13:43:55

And today’s fashion for the young ‘uns is a thick black ‘Nike’ tick.
😁

FannyCornforth Sat 10-Dec-22 13:36:26

Georgesgran me too.
I use UKLash and UKBrow
My eyebrows did grow tails but as soon as I stopped, the tails disappeared again.
I’m having another go with them now 🙄 (image shows me contemplating my eyebrows)
