No Matt = Monday.

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s frosty out. I’m off to the GP surgery in an hour for my routine monthly weigh in and prescription. This afternoon we plan to walk over to the independent florist up the road to buy a Christmas tree for the verandah. They net it up and we walk home with it. Very eco-aware! It’s only 3 blocks mind.

Glad you’re getting your home back today grandMattie you’ll relish doing whatever you please again.

dustyangel Mon 12-Dec-22 08:29:17

Good Morning everyone, I will catch up properly with you all later but as we’ve had our own mini crisis and I’m wide awake, I thought I’d greet the day with you all.
We’ve had DD1 and SIL staying over for a long weekend which has been lovely. DH was going to drive them to the airport this morning but I was told firmly last night, “We’ll say goodbye now, so don’t get up, it’ll be a rush otherwise.”, The just heard that their flight to Heathrow has been cancelled! No explanations at all yet.
Mattie I hope everything goes smoothly today for you and indeed your DL as well. I think it might feel a bit flat and strange for a bit.

Good morning all. What a lot of posts already. I will have to read them later. It's a misty, murky, freezing, frosty morning here in Sefton. -4 according to the BBC weather report. An eventful weekend Mick. 🤞for an enjoyable & 'uneventful' trip to Scarborough.
Singing this morning. Carols or 'Christmas songs' I wonder? I hope enough of our small group manage to make it. It looks treacherous underfoot.
Keep warm & take care if you are venturing out into these cold & frosty mornings.🎵

GrannyGravy13 Mon 12-Dec-22 08:25:47

Morning Mick and all

Enjoy your trip up to Scarborough Mick pack your thermals.

It’s not meant to get much above 0° here in S E Essex today, the road outside looks clear now, the garden is still under snow. The road was covered in snow and it continued to settle till bedtime, 8pm last night when we cadged a lift home from DS4’s from DiL’s Dad (we had walked down before it started snowing) The dogs and GC and cousins had a mad hour in the snow before we left, it was the puppy’s first experience of the white stuff and she loved it.

We have The Imp first thing whilst DD goes into the 7yr olds class for a Christmas Craft Morning, then I should be going to the gym, will see what the weather is doing before I decide.

Keep warm folks, no impromptu skating antics folks 🙋‍♀️🎄🤶🎅🏻🥶❄️☃️⛄️

Beechnut Mon 12-Dec-22 08:19:25

Good morning everyone from Severnside. No snow or frost.

I’m flummoxed as I can’t find my cc statement. I don’t actually need it to pay but I do want to know where I’ve put it 😩. I’ve got to order my prescription and tidy up today.

I hope all goes better for you on todays trip Mick
Mattie 💐

Have a good day all 🎄🦩

grandMattie Mon 12-Dec-22 08:15:22

kitty, my plan is to move, but I need to get an available flat -which hasn’t materialised yet. Probably something suitable will come up in the new year.

BlueSapphire Mon 12-Dec-22 08:13:53

My goodness, what a lot of 'busyness' going on today!

Good morning from a chilly Northampton, -1° this morning. We have had a light sprinkling of snow overnight. Giving yoga a miss this morning as I am going out for our 'Knit and Natter' lunch, and I thought it would be too much of a rush. Will be good not to have to cook tonight - it will yesterday's leftovers, chicken sandwiches probably.

I very much enjoyed yesterday's trip to the theatre to see elder DGD in panto. Felt so proud to see her on the stage. This is her eighth year and she just loves it; the panto finishes its run on the 24th, so she will be busy until then. The other star performers were Ashleigh and her dog, not Pudsey, but her new dog Sully - he was gorgeous, so well behaved and did everything asked if him. Ashleigh and Pudsey won Britain's got Talent a few years ago.

Hope you have an uneventful journey today Mick. And that everything goes to plan today, grandMattie and that you get your house back!

Stay warm everyone. And welcome to our new posters this morning.

Taichinan Mon 12-Dec-22 08:10:40

Good morning Mick and all from another place with -6°C. I'm still at DD's but going home via more shopping in Perth today - if I can break into my car! When I went out yesterday evening to move it out of the driveway to let DGD in with hers I had to use warm water to open the door. It's been even more exposed overnight .......
How wonderful that you get your house back to yourself today grandmattie - and a well-deserved lunch to boot! Mick enjoy your week away after your rather eventful weekend. What a wonderful photo of the deer Kalu - Glencoe is one if my favourite places. What a relief momb! But I'm sure it was an amazing experience for your son.
We had a lovely family meal out yesterday for our pre-Christmas present swap at a beautiful restaurant in Stirling. I could get used to that!
Now to get today in motion and head back to home on the coast and a balmier -1°! Stay safe and warm everyone x

Pittcity Mon 12-Dec-22 08:01:32

Good morning from snowy Colchester. No plan to venture out today.
Love to all 🦩 x

Kalu Mon 12-Dec-22 08:01:23

Marydoll, I don’t believe for a minute you will miss a chance to rummage around in TKMaxx. 😂 bon appétit and be very careful on icy pavements. Best wishes to your DS and DiL, such a lovely time for them…..and you.

brook2704 Mon 12-Dec-22 07:56:48

Good morning everyone from a very cold Inverness, weather app says -7º brrrrr
Hope you have a good Turkey and Tinsel trip away mick - enjoy!
At last gMattie you’ll have your house back, enjoy the space and the peace. Hope your DL can settle in well to her new home, I’m sure she’ll miss your company and support
Today DH will be scraping the car and warming it up before we go out, he’ll be going to work and I’ll be going to the gym to keep warm. We should really put the car in the garage overnight, I don’t know why we don’t as there’s room if we just move a few things across to the other side. Just habit I guess
Oops hope you get home today - safe travels
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Kalu Mon 12-Dec-22 07:54:29

A warm welcome Shel69. You really have your hands full at the moment. Sorry to hear your DH has had a stroke, good news though he is doing well and I hope he is back home with you in January.

Jaxjacky Mon 12-Dec-22 07:53:00

Sorry Oops you’re coming home, not going! Thermals on then, note to self, wake up before posting 🥱
Hope the plumber arrives and performs magic Madeleine
Welcome Shel

Marydoll Mon 12-Dec-22 07:48:31

Good morning all from a very cold Glasgow, as Kalu says it's -7•C. I thought your area would be slightly warmer Kalu. I had many colleagues, who lived in your micro climate area and I used to put out a snow an ice warning for them, since your part of the woods would often have missed the snow we had. They would get such a shock to find how bad the weather was down here.

Sorry to hear of the mishaps yesterday Mick, I hope you have a safe journey today. Safe journey for you too, Oops.

We had a surprise visit yesterday, from DS2 and DIL She is blooming and was wearing a sweatshirt, saying Santa Baby.
I have never seen my son so excited, he has discovered the joy of children and is much loved by DIL's many nieces and nephews He can't wait to welcome his own child into the world.
This is my boy, whom I never thought would survive childhood. 😪 I'm becoming very emotional in my old age! 😁

Their timing was bad, because I had emptied the under the stairs cupboard to look for a missing, favourite scarf, which I still haven't found. I have searched everywhere, to no avail. Did it ever exist? 😉
I couldn't get to the front door for the mess and the porch door was closed, so I couldn't shout. . Poor DH had to go out the back door and go and get them.

Between their visit and the Ebay Queen's request to print Evri labels for her, for her buying and selling business, the day flew by.
You don't need to come over right now and fix my printer, (The road was like a skating rink) but I will email the labels to you, said she. Every thing must be done yesterday.
The email didn't come, so she tried again, but the labels wouldn't print, so she Whats Apped them. They still wouldn't print, therefore I had to do all sorts of juggling to get it sorted. It took me back to my days as an IT co-ordinator. I haven't lost my touch. 😁
So much for my restful morning, reading the papers!

DH are going out for lunch today in town, in a restaurant which does small plates, which are ideal for me these days. DH offered to let me shop. Much to his surprise, I declined, too cold and I just don't have the stamina anymore.
Of course, there is a TKMaxx near the restaurant. 😉

Wishing you all the best of days and safe journey if you need to go out.

madeleine45 Mon 12-Dec-22 07:39:24

Dear All,
Good to read all your news and hope that you have a great trip to Scarborough Mick, if the weather improves I might get over there myself for a day. could do with a day out. It is difficult to type with fingers crossed, ! but have been up for hours as hoping that my promised plumber saviour is going to make it here today as have had no hot water for a week and been back to "the old days " boiling kettles and filling thermos etch to get a wash and so forth. My goodness it takes a long time to get washed from top to toe instead of a quick dive into the shower! Dont know this plumber, but someone from womens group recommended him. Right now it could be Vlad the Impaler coming so long as he gets the job done. Thought of the cost somewhat cringing but no option so try not to worry about it (does a new tank sound the sort of christmas present you might like!!?) Wait for further exciting episodes of this story!! Back is really bad also and too icy to venture out so I shall go through all the stuff that I have taken from the airing cupboard and put it away and try and do a bit of tidying up. Have some mince in that I plan to make a curry with today, as I can do it in stages and by the looks of the weather it will be a good idea for dinner. Radio 3 and 4 will be my companions today and hopefully by tonight things will be back to normal and the washer will be going full steam ahead , as been reduced to the clothes that you dont really like any more but last of the clean stuff. Why is there always about 7 odd socks knocking about and the matching ones never turn up in any other drawer? Perhaps there are some modern day borrowers behind the skirting board and they are adding socks to all the biros that go missing! Have a good day everyone and keep warm and safe

Shel69 Mon 12-Dec-22 07:39:04

Good morning from county Kerry, it's -5 here, first time posting, though I should introduce myself, it's lovely reading your posts, I'm originally from London lived here for 19 years,
It's dark and very cold here, I am about to make my grandsons packed lunch for school, I'm dreading driving this morning, hit black ice friday, (my grandson lives with me) I shall pop into Macdonald for my favourite latte, a treat I give myself during school times, unfortunately my dh is in hospital 18 miles away and I will drive there after to see him, he had a stroke 6 weeks ago, but is doing well, should be home in January they say, will be back to grab a bite to eat and pick up my gs from school and a quick tidy up round the house cook dinner et c , and walk the dog, all not very exciting but I do love Macdonald coffee so really looking forward to that and of course seeing my dh, blessings to all have a good a s safe day

harrigran Mon 12-Dec-22 07:37:55

Good morning from the NE where it is -3 and we have had more overnight snow.
SIL came yesterday, he still has a cough, this cold weather does ot help his asthma.
We did some admin work on the computer and then made a shopping list, he will get some gifts for GDs for me. He lives within walking distance of Gateshead Metrocentre.
We had a hearty beef stew with cheesy dumplings served with mashed potato, roast parsnips and green beans. It was ideal for a freezing cold evening but I paid the price during the night when it sat like a lead weight in my tummy.
D day grandMattie, you really have gone above and beyond, time to relax now.
Take care travellers.

karmalady Mon 12-Dec-22 07:36:18

Good morning from s somerset. What a day you had Mick and GM we are all rooting for a seamless day for you

Adult family came all the way from Glasgow and are due to leave today. Vegans, so catering was not so easy but the food was delicious. I abandoned all trips yesterday, I took the decision after laying awake at 2am when my intuition kicked in bigtime. Driving and attempting to walk, on sheet ice is to be avoided

I found some good grippy walking shoes this morning, only if needed in an emergency. I am staying put for as long as it takes, after driving them a 34 mile round trip to the station. I shall breathe a sigh of relief when I get onto the main roads, the only gritted roads and a very big sigh of relief when I arrive home. Car now is 4wd and is a steady car (with a steady driver, me)

I was in a slow motion total write off on a lane bend, neither lorry or car could stop, near kendal and have had several spins and cars spinning very close since. It leaves a message in the brain

Stay warm and safe, each and every one of you

Forsythia Mon 12-Dec-22 07:32:28

Freezing with a light covering of snow here in Sussex. Staying in to keep warm as we’ve both had a coughing virus that’s going round. Put our trees and decorations up yesterday and looking very festive although there’s only us and the cat! Still, I like to look Christmassy and gives me something to do being stuck inside.
Hope everyone has a good day.

ShazzaKanazza Mon 12-Dec-22 07:27:57

Good Morning Mick and everyone from Hull. I’m not sure what it’s like today but I’m expecting frosty and freezing. Yesterday was so beautiful very cold but sunny and a blue sky.

We had a walk around the Beverley Christmas market but you couldn’t get near the stalls it was packed. I had a lovely mulled wine though and it was nice just to soak up the Christmas atmosphere.
It’s our last fairly quiet normal routine week before all our real craziness starts from next Sunday so today yoga and picking up GS from school.

Wishing everyone a lovely day. Safe travels to you all who are on the move today.
Thinking of those with illness and worries blighting their lives at the moment.🌻🎄

Jaxjacky Mon 12-Dec-22 07:27:46

Good morning from a cold S Hampshire, it’s -2, we had drizzle/sleet yesterday, now frozen.
Whoopee gMattie hope today goes to plan. Mick enjoy your trip today.
Oops 🤞for an uneventful journey onto warmer climes.
Today is my voluntary day on the phones, so I won’t be going far.
Enjoy your day all 🦩🦩

Morning Mick, morning All. Our corner of Somerset looks icy, very shiny paths.

Goodness what a weekend mick, hope your week is less eventful. A day to smile grandmattie. Take care ash, go gently. Hope you get home oops.

Another here with nothing special on the agenda but plenty to do. We’re both feeling weary after an enjoyably busy week and plan a few quiet(er) days.

Take care and stay warm everyone. Hope Monday is kind to us all

NannyJan53 Mon 12-Dec-22 07:18:16

Good morning from a very cold Black Country. Luckily the ice melted away yesterday. No real snow here, but at DD's in Staffs, the girls had enough to make a snowman

Meeting DS in his lunchbreak today with Mum. He only goes into the office for meetings, so a good chance to catch up and swap cards etc.

Didn't go out all weekend as it was so cold, but is a bit milder now.

Stay safe and warm everyone

Grandmadinosaur Mon 12-Dec-22 07:15:08

Good morning all from a -1 degree East Yorkshire.

I’ve just got up and made my own cuppa. DH giving the gym a miss. He’s not feeling well. My poor man and I can’t do much to help him. Recent events have taken there toll in more ways than one.

Rejoice today GM enjoy having the place to yourself later.

Had a lovely afternoon at The Snowman yesterday. A little annoyed at the prices of the merchandise they were selling. At this time of year I’m sure they could have had a few items at pocket money prices.

Today I have my hair appointment and nothing else especially but plenty to do if you get my drift. Yesterday when I did my hair I thought I’d dry it flicking out for a change. When the time came to go out I looked like Camilla having a bad hair day with the moisture in the air it was just a ball of frizz. Not a good sight!

Have a good day everyone.
