I’m a Pear/Apple - Part 5. Still going!!
Good morning from E Kent.
I’m opening for Mick Whois enjoying Scarborough, I believe.
Shall post and add my penny worth in a minute.
That’s what I thought baubles! Many happy returns. I hope you’ve had a wonderful day.
🎈🎊🎈
Nannagarra & Kalu, well spotted but not that significant, just my last year of being 60 something! 😃
Thank you Susan
It's like the mother/daughter roles are reversed!
Thank you for all your kind comments about my mum.I have thought for some time things weren’t right but then she would have a really good couple of weeks.I think having my thoughts confirmed is what has made me so sad.
NannyJan, yes, that’s what it feels like that I am losing her.Mum is 90.We too are waiting for an appointment at the memory clinic. She has mellowed a lot which is good but it’s not my mum.
I hope your mum isn’t waiting too long for her appointment💐
Good morning from a frosty West York's. Last school pick up til after holidays .I have just had my hair cut and blown , it's a new to me hairdresser she is lovely ,she is back at teatime to cut Gc hair hope 5yr old co-operative !!!
A late good morning from Durham where it’s bright but the temperature is still well below zero. At the last minute, I decided not to drive down to Cheshire to spend a few days with my sister-in-law – partly because of the weather, but mainly because I don’t want anything to jeopardize my Christmas plans, but I’d also called at my rental house en route to put the heating on and found a problem with the boiler. That saw me dropping off the keys at my wonderful Gas man’s house. He has been there first thing today and it’s all up and running and I feel happier leaving it empty, with some heating on until it is next rented out. Both my sister-in-law and I felt it more advisable that I drive down in January, when there is a window of decent weather. We have been dealing with dense, freezing fog, most afternoons and evenings here in the Northeast - took me a while to locate my fog light switch - I hate it when people have fog lights on for a bit of mist, or worse still in torrential rain and then forget they’ve got them on days later!
gM your ex-DL might well have to spend another night in her hotel, as agents won’t release keys until the funds are in, usually around 4pm, but at least that’s not your problem. I wonder if you might find it a bit strange at first, being on your own?
Best wishes to all. Stay safe. X
Good morning all from Glasgow. -8 and again a very hard frost.
I have had to cancel BT coming out today as the required part for our wifi hasn’t arrived due to the postal strike. Visit rearranged for next Tuesday. 🤞a rubbish night’s sleep, didn’t drop off until 3,00am. I was planning a visit to a larger nearby shopping mall today but I have decided to put it off for today, a visit to discuss my meds at our surgery will be enough of an outing for a get up and go type of day.
Sorry to hear you are feeling unwell, possibly with covid Grandmabatty. Look after yourself, stay warm and plenty of fluids, hoping if covid, it’s a mild dose.
Is this a milestone birthday for you Baubles? We share the same first number but I am 2.3/4 years ahead of you and you certainly don’t look that age!
I’m so sorry to read your sad news this morning Susan
Have a pleasant day if possible all and hopefully a kinder day ahead for those who have struggles and worries to cope with.
Am all behind this morning as plumber arrived at 8.30 am to sort out two non-functioning radiators - I was expecting g him late afternoon so wasn’t at all ready. Still, job done and I am grateful that he takes my needs seriously.
Big mystery is that I seem to have lost my wedding ring. I noticed its loss last night and am utterly baffled. Did it get mixed up with the recycling when I put it out yesterday? No idea, and of course they were early today, so I can’t hunt through it. I am devastated to have lost this precious link to DH but will continue to look indoors. Need prayers to St Jude, the patron saint of lost causes.
Not looking forward to the funeral later today of a young member of our congregation, father of three little boys, who lost a long battle with bower cancer. They are such a lovely family and need all the support the village can give them.
Good morning everyone, today for the first time for over a week we haven’t got the horrendous wind and rain that we’ve been having. I had to ask DH to walk in front of me as we rounded a corner in the centre of town yesterday as I was scarred of being blown over. I’m especially glad because I’m getting my hair cut later and thought the wind would undo all the good work that I hope the hairdresser will do. Dd and SiL eventually got home safely yesterday afternoon. Wyllow, when I said to them that I was sorry the weather was so bad and their mostly unused bit of the house so cold, they replied “ Not as cold as at home!*. The temperatures have apparently been about 15/17°. I haven’t put my nose outside the door yet today to find out. At least SiL was able to catch up on his sleep, he was due to go back on night work the same evening.
Welcome to Shel69. I agree with you that it is nice to read of others day to day activities.
I also meant to say to Urms How fantastically well you have done sticking to your weight loss plan. It’s not easy I know.
I’ll have to catch up with the last couple of days happenings later, I must get organised now.
Good morning all from a cold sunny Lancashire where it is currently-6°.
The pavements and roads are still very icy in places but I need to go out to the cash machine at some point. I’m so afraid of falling at the moment. Well done Marydoll, I would have been too scared!. Sorry you’re so unwell Grandmabatty, hope it doesn’t last long. Hope the clearance goes well Grandmattie.
Have a good day all whatever you’re doing.
Good morning all GNs from a very chilly South Yorkshire where the sun is shining in a clear blue sky. I suspect I won’t get out today unless the frost melts, but I had a short hop yesterday while DD was here. I miss a good walk on days like this. I’m so bored indoors could scream but needs must. DS cooked me a lovely dinner last night - cous cous with mushrooms, peppers and chopped cornichons, with grilled salmon fillets and asparagus. That after he had had a long day back in York and a horrible drive back here early evening. He watched me lick the plate and then said “You didn’t enjoy that, then?” I will pay him back by cooking him a cheese omelette for his lunch, which I proved to DD that I could do yesterday, even on crutches! I must have a bit of a tidy round too, as my young neighbour is planning to come in and see how I’m getting on before the end of the week. She is an occupational physiotherapist and gave me much good advice before my surgery.
Mary I’m pleased you’re back in your car. Well done. I still haven’t tackled the roundabout of doom; maybe next year😁!
Ash. Good to hear the Eagle has landed!👍🏻
Have the best day you can folks.
Good morning gransnetters from a frosty northwest coast.
Staying here today after going to the music club yesterday and I did sing, the croaky throat stayed under control and it was a large turnout. I help with the washing up (we have wonderful homemade cakes) and it seemed to go on for ever. The rubber grippers for my shoes are wonderful and give me more confidence walking in this weather.
Once home, I caught up with some phone calls hanging over me (I’m not a great fan of the phone, I do like FaceTime with close family though) and in the evening, fell asleep in the chair, which annoys me.
I hope things settle down GM and thoughts to Susan and Grandmabatty
Good morning all from a comparatively warm but very windy -1°C on the Angus coast. Another glorious cloudless winter's day, so my friend and I are going to venture to a favourite restaurant up country for our weekly lunch.
I'm feeling sad on her behalf as she told me yesterday that her DS and DiL, in whose garden her little house sits, have decided that they're are selling up and moving and that she will have to move into sheltered housing 'somewhere'. They're house is huge (and costly to heat!) so I can see it from their point of view, but it is very hard on an almost-89yo. I'm sure she'll be fine and they'll find the best for her, but still ......
More sad news yesterday when I learned from their daughter that another friend and her husband had both been diagnosed with Alzheimer's (her) and vascular dementia and Alzheimer's (him) and they are both now 'safe' in a home. Old age is 'not for the faint hearted' as they say. Oh dear, that's everyone from our old art group accounted for - we used to meet here every week for more than 20 years, until covid..... We even met in the garden in the summer gap between the two lockdowns. I thought we'd go in for ever.
Sorry to be so downbeat in such a lovely day. I read all yesterday's posts at bedtime last night and was sure I'd remember things for comment. The only one - and I don't remember who said it - was the comment about Next. I'll be looking out for you all wearing my new sparkly pink top!
Marydoll I loved your novella yesterday! And grandmattie I'm glad DL's departure has gone to plan. Now, rest and enjoy!
I had a look through all the Christmas presents I have bought and I really think I'm there! Now, let the wrapping begin!
Please have a good day everyone x
Good morning from a frosty Black Country where it is -4!
Didn't wake up until 845am! Unheard of, took MrJ a cuppa and he was still asleep.
Dentist yesterday went ok, just a minor procedure of touching up a tooth and making it smooth. Out within 10 minutes, cost £65!
Today I had planned to make a start on my Tax Return. I put it off every year. Every year I say to myself I will do it early November! I rent out a small flat, so has to be done.
Took delivery yesterday of an Air Fryer I ordered in October, it is a Tower one with racks so it is like a mini oven. Looking forward to test driving it tonight!
Sorry to hear about your Mum Susan56 I have a similar problem with my Mum. Took her to the Doctors about 3 weeks ago, who is going to refer her to a Memory Clinic. No idea how long that will take. She is 93 early January, so I know it is to be expected, but it feels like I am slowly losing her. I am sure you feel the same Susan
It does seem rather thoughtless of your DL after all you have done GM, hopefully as Urms says she has her head full of other things right now, and you will hear from her soon.
Wishing you all a warm and safe day
Matt isn't far off the mark Urms. My cards aren't even posted written yet
Get well soon grandmabatty
A sad visit for you Ginny
Here’s Matt.
Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s sunny but frosty out. All quiet too as no trains are running owing to the rail strike which is continuing all week I believe.
I have a manicure booked for mid morning. I’m glad it’s only over the road. I’m having my French polish removed which actually still looks nice apart from the nail growth. I’ll have them snipped short and fancy a shiny vermillion shade for Christmas!
Other than that we have no plans. Gourmet fish cakes from Aldi I think for tea (that sounds an oxymoron in itself!). Have a great Wednesday all who can. Yes I can understand you feeling hurt grandMattie not being told about the exchange of contracts. It does seem a bit cavalier after all you’ve done for your lodger but she’s probably just has her head full of everything right now.
Good morning from a sunny W Kent. Snow still everywhere so another day in for me. I will get the bed made up for our Christmas visitor and generally tidy around as I shall need to get going once the snow has gone. Lovely long chat to DD1 whose school is now going to have a menopause room for the staff! how times change, a bit like the hotel disability room gM
Best wishes to all specially those not feeling so good.
Good morning everyone from bitterly cold Carlisle where it was -7C at 7.30am, a new low. The sky is milky blue and a half moon is shining.
I've got my heating on as low as is comfortable which is not very low as I feel the cold. Somehow though, my sitting room is warmer and cosier than anywhere else and that's where I'm spending most of my time when not houseworking.
I must venture out later this morning, I have a GP appointment on the other side of the city. I shall be very well wrapped up you can be sure! In the afternoon, a Tesco delivery is due. That's all today's excitement. A little bathroom cleaning and a lot of reading will fill the rest of my time.
I hope all goes smoothly for your DL and yourself grandMattie.
And the best possible day to all.
DLhas stayed in a hotel for two nights, in their disability room.
Grandmabatty get well soon.
Is this a significant day for you baubles?
Looking forward to going to the sage in Gateshead for our annual start of Christmas! Have work today and can’t believe it’s a year since we went. My dad used to say as you get older the years get quicker and he was so right. My dil turns 41 today and I can remeber a shy 20 year old coming to meet us how the years fly! So cold where we live and hate driving in this can’t wait to retire and hibernate I the winter! Have a good day all.
Good morning all from bright Harrogate.
I’m still full of the cold but did sleep well last night so might find some energy today! Might even feel human! No particular plans apart from getting the washing on hanging it out and seeing if it dries at all. Hopefully GC will stay away, don’t want them to get this.
What has DL been sleeping on if her bed is still at yours GrandMattie?
You will be so relieved though!
Have the best day possible folks
Good morning. -5 here in N. Bucks.
I have an appointment at 10 this morning and then I will call in to see my best friend whose sister died yesterday.
Last craft club of the year this afternoon, a Christmassy one.
Stay safe and warm everyone.
Good morning all from East Yorkshire. It’s -3 positively balmy compared to your temps Grandmabatty . On our regional TV news last night he said on Sunday it will be 8 degrees and 12 on Monday. Oh I can’t wait!
We had a lovely time with GS last night. He came running out of school with a card he’d made for me. I showed him how to make paper snowflakes and I fetched the Rudolph hobby horse(reindeer) for him to play with.
Today DH and I had made plans depending on how he felt to go to York to the McArthur Glen outlet. He’s only just getting up. Looking at all the ice I’m not sure I’m keen. If he’s up to it he will say the same as you about the roads Shazza take care driving up to Brid. BTW good bargain shopping at TK Maxx S.
Have a good day everyone.
Good morning, as kitty says it is freezing here.
There is a pink glow in the sky though and I can see up the hill so not so foggy.
NWR meal was fun last night and the food was good. I was surprised the restaurant wasn’t full though. I think businesses are suffering.
Pilates this morning then I must cut DH’s hair and sort out the presents.
