GG very worrying news for you.
DIL said yesterday that they had an email from school informing that there were cases of Strep A, scarlet fever and chicken pox in Dollie's school.
Dollie was a sheilder, so we are really concerned.

Good morning Thursday 15 December
(57 Posts)Hello from E Kent.
Opening up in Mick’s absecnce.
Good afternoon,
Such awful news Susan56. You must all be very shocked and saddened. There seems so much tragedy about at the moment, and it always seems so much worse at this time of the year (though of course any time of year is tragic).
It’s another very frosty and cold day here, but the sky is blue and the sun is shining.
A quiet day planned, just a spot of ironing later.
Hope all the poorlies soon see improvement.
Morning all
Late to the party this morning, I won’t bore you all with the details.
It’s -2° here in my little corner of the world, I have to go to Mayflower Retail Park, definitely last shop for gifts …
Have only skimmed the thread, Susan what dreadful news regarding your neighbours housefire. grandMattie you truly are a saint on earth, I think my new mantra will be be more like grandMattie
AS 3 is really poorly with strepA, as are his wife and two boys. GP prescribed antibiotics immediately so we are hopeful they will kick in soon. It’s the youngest ones 13th birthday tomorrow, we are keeping everything crossed he is much improved by then.
Have a good day folks (I will now read all your news properly)
🙋♀️🎄🤶🦩☃️🎄
Good morning all from Glasgow. I haven’t checked the temperature, just know we have a hard frost again, clear blue skies and sunshine making everything in the garden sparkle, very pretty sight….from inside a cosy house.
As much as we would prefer to stay indoors, DH has an appointment with his speech therapist, unfortunately not local and a trip into Glasgow is required.
If ever I needed proof of being on GN far too much, after sorting out my meds at our surgery, I requested an appointment for ‘DH’, not husband to have his bloods done! The receptionist asked me to repeat who the appointment was for!! 🤦🏼♀️😂. The car park behind our pharmacy was like an ice rink yesterday, I waited until a space was clear near a thawed area, another fracture is the last thing I need. .
DD1 received a message from GD2 yesterday, the weather is cold enough to freeze pipes - in England-, I think our school may close down today! Nice try L, but mummy did buy it.
What a terrible tragedy Susan
I do envy you having Dollie Cuddled up beside you Marydoll, the school run in winter, not so much. A friend and I were talking about when we did school runs, scraping icy car windows etc., something we took in our stride but the thought of doing it now…thank god we don’t have to anymore.
Drive safely.
Best wishes for a good day ahead to all and kind wishes to those with whatever struggles and worries you have to bare.
Thank you all once again for your kind and supportive comments. They really help so much.We are lucky with this thread of Mick’s aren’t we.
Yes Gingster. The bungalow is to the back and side of us.From our bedroom windows the back of the property looks perfect but the front is destroyed.
It has been a very difficult 24 hours and harrowing for the people who live opposite. Our elderly neighbour has just phoned and is very upset so I will pop round there now.
Good morning from a sunny Co Armagh, no sign of a thaw ,
I was late with the porridge oats for the Robin and he didn’t like that the blackbird got in before him !
Lovely singing from local school children at our village club session , last of the year , we then had yummy lunch in the pub next door
Nothing planned for today
Good morning from a sunny -4 W Kent. A few phone calls to make and a bit of floor washing for me today. DF is getting the keys to her new house tomorrow, we seem to have talked about it for so long, nice for her it has finally happened.
Belated birthday wishes baubles
Susan so sorry to hear about your neighbours.
I think Beechnut maybe right about your DL gM please relax and please yourself for a while.
Good morning from the NE where it is-3.
Didn't go shopping yesterday as burglar alarm maintenance man didn't come until after 3pm. SIL ate out of the freezer, roast chicken, red cabbage, carrots and mashed potato.
GD2 missed her carol service in Durham cathedral because of a virus, such a shame as she was singing in the choir and loves it.
Today is my sister's 82nd birthday, she is having lunch out with friends in Germany before flying to Newcsatle tomorrow. I wish I had half her stamina.
DD is on her way to the UK from Brussels and will be with me at 2pm, all being well with the train 🫰
Sorry you got the backlash grandMattie, I think you have been extremely patient and tolerant considering your own grief for DS and DH 💐
Back from the school run and reading through properly.
What terrible news for you Susan. So much sad news at the moment.
Good morning everyone from a bright frosty northwest coast.
Off to lunch at converted country house just outside the town with long standing bachelor friend. We have lunch every six weeks or so and a I have a hand painted card and bottle of wine for him. Am picking him up. My passenger window in the car is still taped us as the part hasn’t arrived for my son to fix it🙄
I watched the new Lady Chatterley film last night, so so and now find sex scenes boring…
Will read through later and thoughts to all with worries.
Belated birthday greetings baubles. I hope you enjoyed your day.
Perhaps that’s why DL friends didn’t offer to have her Mattie!
Good morning everyone. Sunshine and freezing in this corner of Lancashire, currently -8°C.
Hope you can have some peace now Grandmattie, how ungracious of your ex-DL after all you’ve done.
What a dreadful shock Susan.
No real plans for today apart from keeping warm. Have a good day all 🦩🦩🦩
Good morning all from the Scottish Borders.
Minus 2°C but no sun so very icy
SiL's dad is coming to try to dig my car out about now so I can drive to a Christmas lunch off the bus route
My new boiler stopped working yesterday due to the extreme cold! Luckily the plumber came last night to fix it. He says he's working 12 hour days.
So sad to hear about the house fire Sar56 what a tragedy.
Your boy wonder is a chess champion Urms!
I hope you are taking the credit
Glad to hear you and Dollie are having fun Marydoll
DGD was a shepherd in the play. I asked why the manger was empty.
"Baby Jesus isn't born yet" was the obvious answer. Silly grannie
Have a good day if you can everyone.
Good morning everyone.
Minus 8 in my part of N. Bucks at the moment.
Youngest DGS was sent to A&E yesterday. Thankfully he was sent home with antibiotics so hopefully will improve today. DD was with him there for about 4 hours. She said the adult A&E was packed with people sitting waiting on chairs outside!
Taking MIL to a local Garden Centre/Emporium for Lunch and a mooch.
Home to finish decorations and a few other bits and pieces.
Stay warm and safe.
Good morning all from a grey, wet Algarve.
GrandMattie
My haircut went well yesterday, despite needing sorting out now I’ve slept on it. However I was pleased to be able to get back in the car without getting soaked. However because we needed to go out again early afternoon, we decided to stop off nearer town for lunch rather than go home. Just as I got to the door of the restaurant the heavens opened and the cook who had just popped out of the kitchen, took one look at me, with water trickling down my face, and said, “Chuva?” (Rain). I must have looked like as if someone had emptied a bucket over my head.
.
-10 here in Oxfordshire, but the sun is up!
Good Morning everyone from a very chilly and frosty Severnside.
The venue at my outing yesterday was very cold. It definitely could not have advertised itself as a ‘Warm Space’. I was very glad I’d left my slippers on top of the radiator before I went out and sat down with a chamber pot of tea, which reminded me of Pant.
I had a nice FaceTime with Beechnutella. She showed me the crafting she was doing and sent me a photo later when it was finished. She said she’d been walking her elderly neighbours dog for her in the cold weather.
I’m going out to get some shopping and maybe running a few errands.
Will now make another cuppa and start to read the thread.
Have a cosy warm day all 🎄🦩
Belated birthday wishes to Baubles we are going to Leeds today for some last minute shopping .Susan that's a horrid thing to happen. Sending ;((hugs))to those that need them.
Good morning from a very icy Black Country where it is -7!
Completed my Tax Return yesterday, so that is that job out of the way for another year.
Cooked sausages and baked potato in the new Air Fryer, and they turned out very well. So very pleased as it was much quicker than using the oven.
Today is our bi-weekly Thursday walk. Don't think so many are going today. We will finish with a hot drink in the park. MrJ is supposed to be on a cycle ride, but doubt he will in these icy conditions. He is meeting his brother and a few mates this afternoon in a pub in Birmingham, he was umming and aahing about it, but I said you must go, you don't meet up that often.
So sorry to hear about your neighbours Susan such a shock for their family, friends and neighbours.
Stay warm everyone
Good morning from -1C Sefton.
Yoga and cake with mates feature today. I hope you picked up on my birthday wishes at the end of yesterday’s Good Morning baubles…morning is an elastic concept to me.
Such a tragedy Susan. My, your DL grandMattie! She takes the biscuit.
Keep safe and cosy everyone.
🌲 ❄️ 🌲
Good Morning from a chilly S Yorks.
Susan, that is dreadful, warm thoughts your way x
My lovely cleaner comes today so I was busy tidying last night and got the tree up.. GM - totally out of order!
Bests for poorlies, and may outings go well. I'm off to the gym while cleaner here for my dose of walking, yoga and nattering..
Good morning everyone from another very frosty morning in Northampton, -5° outside today. Need to get my skates on as I have a Sainsbury's delivery shortly.
Had a pleasant time yesterday at the garden centre with neighbours; we walked up there, so were ready for our not drinks. Had a good browse around after coffee, but nothing took my fancy apart from a pretty Christmas mug.
Spent the afternoon on the laptop trying to cancel an annual automatic payment for a service I no longer require, to no avail - there was simply no way of doing it on line, so I will have to phone them. I could renew, or even request a new service, but not cancel. Very frustrating.
Tap and ballet classes after lunch, and that's all my plans for the day.
Take care everyone in this frosty weather; hope Thursday smiles on us all.
Good morning all from South Lanarkshire where the temperature has risen to -5.
Awful news about your neighbours Susan.
My eldest DGD was due to have a little clarinet solo in her school concert this evening but the poor girl has two burst eardrums and spent yesterday in bed. We had a FaceTime chat last night, she’s so disappointed and will now miss the last couple of days of the term too as they finish tomorrow.
We’re off to visit the family in the east as it’s Thursday but will keep an eye on the weather as there’s a chance of snow later so we may leave early. We had planned to anyway as we should have been attending DGD’s concert.
Thanks for the birthday wishes, it was a busy day at work and a chilled out evening. We are rewatching Happy Valley ahead of the new series, great acting but it’s fairly brutal in places.
Have the best day possible everyone.
Good morning all .
Bright and cold outside. Not much warmer inside. We are open plan here so the heat escapes.
Blankets and hotties for us!
I didn’t go to the choir social last night as it was icy and I don’t like driving much in the dark. Shame ! But sensible I think.
This morning I have my bowls group and I’ll stop off in town to M and S food hall. I didn’t get there yesterday.
Take care Ash - yes the onesie seems a good idea.
Lovely for you to have Dolly snuggled up beside you. Mary. They are warm little hot water bottles aren’t they!
Susan what a shock about your neighbours and so very sad. Were they close by to you?
Lots of baking going on ! I’ve been ask to make a couple of cheese cakes. Lemon and a chocolate one, to take to DS1’s on Boxing Day.🎄. I’ll do it at the weekend.
Take care and keep cosy.❤️
Good morning from a clear blue, bitterly cold South Yorkshire where my new boiler is struggling to get up to the required temperature this morning. There’s a hard frost, so whether I will get out with my minder for a crutch walk later is debatable. I am serially bored with all this hip malarkey now. Normal service seems a long way away still! I have some letters to write to go in with cards, particularly one to my cousin in Ireland. We have both had a difficult year. DS and I are having fish and chips this evening. He has cooked every day since he’s been here, and very nice it has been, so I’ve suggested he has a chef’s night off! He didn’t protest.
Have the best day you can, folks and stay warm.
