I lost mine once on a more or less deserted beach in Northern Ireland, shaking sand out of a picnic blanket. I saw it fly off and roughly where it landed, so DH told me to keep the children out of the way, marked the ground into a sort of grid with a toy spade, and sifted his way gently through each square, knowing it wouldn’t be very far below the surface. He found it. I’ve never been so relieved in my life.

Good morning Friday 16th December 2022
(67 Posts)Good morning from E Kent.
Mick seems to be still shanking a leg in Scarborough.
Talking about wedding rings - a few years ago I fell and damaged my shoulder. The swelling reached my hand so I had to have the wedding ring cut off. I couldn’t do anything about it until all the swelling had gone down. I was finally able to pop into a local jeweller who told me that because it was so worn (over 40 years old) he couldn’t simply solder it back together. Basically he melted the two halves down, added a bit more gold and formed a new ring. It is beautiful. For the couple of months I didn’t wear a ring it did feel strange. I had never taken it off in all those years.
Grannysomerset I’m so glad your ring turned up. It was on my mind yesterday after you said you had lost it. Few things more upsetting.👏
GrannySomerset so pleased your ring turned up. When I was at mums the other day she said she’s had to put hers on a chain round her neck because it’s started falling off her finger.
Oops hope your UTI clears quickly when you get your antibiotics. They make you feel so rubbish💐
Just popped back in to say how pleased I am that GrannySomerset found her wedding ring and to hope that Grandmabatty soon starts to feel better.
I’ve got a UTI so that’s why I was feeling grotty, somehow managed to get through to a GP and antibiotics are being prepared, as I can’t leave the loo MrOops is collecting them later and dropping my sample in to the surgery, in a Jam Jar!! I don’t have any proper containers. Oh well. I’ll have to put it into a bag or something.
I know - too much information!
Great news, GrannySomerset!.
Oh, thank goodness you found your ring GrannySomserset. Phew!
I would be devastated to lose something of such sentimental value such as my wedding band.
Oh GrannySomerset your ring turned up in your glove! Wonderful news. Bet you were delighted to find it! I hate losing anything - even temporarily - it really plays on my mind.
So glad you found your ring GrannySomerset
GrannySomerset Delighted that the ring turned up 👍
Lots of activity today but not here where I plan a domestic day. Lovely tree, Maw and Wise Men, granMattie, wish I had the talent and the patience.
Wedding ring turned up in my glove when I put it on yesterday. Won’t wear the wedding ring till the weather warms up a bit and won’t slip off my finger. Despite considerable expenditure the house is not all that warm and I look forward to a rise in the temperature at the weekend.
Granma Gravy. Hope you enjoy THE Pantomime. We’ve seen it three times, Brilliant and wish we were fit enough this year, you’re right it is ‘adult’ ,although some people bring children as well.
One year we got to London very early so spent an hour (no money) walking round Liberty’s. Which is very close to the Palladium..
Good morning everyone. Another cold frosty morning in this corner of Lancashire, currently -3°C. I can see some cloud heading our way so it may warm up a little after yesterday’s sub zero temperatures.
Those wise men are beautiful GM, love the colours. How sad for your friend.
Covid seems to be affecting many in GNet again, I still haven’t had it. Hope you’re feeling better soon Grandmabatty and hope your son isn’t too bad Shazza.
I’m actually going out today! I have a hair appointment after lunch but no other plans.
Safe journey to all who are out and about today.
Have a good day all 🦩🦩🦩

There was a Thrush earlier
Good morning all from frozen Harrogate
My DD just phoned to say her MILs boiler has broken, so she has her MIL, SIL and 2 adult’s nephews coming to stay until the boiler is fixed. Not the best time for all but could be worse.
I did my back in while baking yesterday and sadly I’ve more to bake today!! Will have to try doing it sitting down!
Those are lovely trees Maw.
Your nativity figures are lovely and bright GrandMatty.
I believe the rule now is 5days after testing you are then negative whatever the test says? If that’s right, you should be able to enjoy the festivities Grandmabatty. Hope you are not suffering too much.
Have the best day you can folks
Good morning from sunny W Kent. Still minus temperatures but we managed to get out to the supermarket yesterday and did the bulk of the shopping. Today feels a bit of a non day, we are not needed for GC care and all but one present is packed.
Hope you feel better soon Grandmabatty.
Take care everyone.
Good morning from a sunny but very cold Staffs. After well over a week (lost track of time!) of bad cough and cold together with a day of fainting and D&V I actually feel as if I could eat some porridge this morning-yay! We’ve missed SO many meet up including one of my lovely choir’s carol concert last night after their Christmas meal the night before. DH and I are SO fed up but, hey ho, on we go!
Good morning from a frosty West York's,it's minus 3 at the moment. I am out with friend today don't think we will be going far ,it's her birthday on Sunday so came may fo like our lunch.Sorry to read you have covi D Gmattie .💐 to all poorlies .
A good Matt today Urms, and I love your cobbler's humour!
Good morning all from the Scottish Borders.
Still bitterly cold but at least my heating is working again. My new boiler can't cope with severe cold!
It snowed in the night so my car is buried again. A kind neighbour dug me out yesterday so I could drive to a rural Christmas lunch.
I shall be volunteering at the community shop later on but just catching up today.
Sorry to hear you have covid grandmabatty such bad luck.
Also sorry about the DGC who are missing end of term fun..
Your knitting is gorgeous gMattie
Get well soon wishes to the poorly ones . Happy birthday to DGD Brook.
Maw I assume you are using litotes for comic effect in that the image of the tree featuring a back pack is your DD’s.
Star Wars figure’s welcome here, as is a spare star (one year the baby himself 🤦♀️).
Good morning grandmattie and all. Today it's grey and -3° here - with a pretty line of blue sky over the distant snow-covered hills. Just a thick frost here, but DD has just sent me a photo of a good 6" of 'proper' snow in her garden table.
Your three wise men are so colourful grandmattie! And I'm loving all the pictures on the thread this morning.
Sorry to hear your feeling so poorly Grandmabatty - stay cosy and get well soon. Ditto all the poorly grandchildren upset to be missing the pre-Christmas excitement.
Yesterday's tai chi class was its usual lovely self, and then we wandered along to the hotel for our Christmas lunch which was lovely too. When I got home I plonked myself down in a chair and promptly fell asleep! No stamina these days!
Today I shall start ploughing my way through all the present-wrapping, washing, ironing etc that has to be got through before I go away on the 21st. At least there's no food shopping to do!
Susan, my thoughts are with you in the horrific aftermath of that fire. There are no words 🌹
Have the best day you can everyone and stay cosy and warm x
Here’s Matt.
Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s sunny but we’ve had a night frost looking at the rooftops. Currently it’s minus 4°C here according to Alexa and will be zero degrees later.
Himself has just gone up the road to collect our shoes from our independent cobbler in his den. We do like to support him but were a bit taken aback on Tuesday when he charged £45 for the soles & heels on one pair and soles only on a pair of mine!
We are picking the Boy Wonder and L’l Miss up from school as they break up today for Christmas and will be very excited, so their mum thought a nice change to go straight home and not to their childminder’s (even though she is lovely and the BW has gone every school day for six years now, for his breakfast and after school pick up till 5pm).
Later we have friends coming over this evening, from Bolton where they still have snow on their side roads. They are neighbours in our Spanish home and we get on really well. We will have drinks in the bar below us then come up to eat. I’m doing pies ‘n’ peas and they’re bring a pud (which I should only have a spoon of!).
Ah Himself has just come back in. He showed me the ‘tyre’ track soles & heels on his shoes and said when he said to the cobbler I won’t be slipping in these he laughed and said “if you do, you need to take more lemonade with it!”.
Morning from a crisp sunny - but very chilly - S Yorks.
My thoughts with Covid and other poorlies. Susan something that will take so long to come to terms with.
Greyduster I really appreciate Zooms or similar as well, have a regular one which if i drove to would take well over an hour. Hope you heal quickly re walks and piano.
Lovely figures GM.
I've a no "must do's" day so will probably head for the gym where walks can be done safely!
Morning,
It’s very frosty here today, very cold. Meeting some colleagues today for a catch up. Looking forward to seeing them.
Hope you feel better soon Grandmabatty.
Pretty tree, Maw.
Have the best day possible everyone.
