King Charles coronation

I’m reading today that Charles will be insisting that Harry & Meghan will be invited to his Coronation next year… but why? So they may still whinge & moan and take sneaky pictures for maybe another forthcoming battering of the royal family, moan that all the family will be so cold towards them, that no one is friendly towards them. Charles do your best and don’t invite them, they probably wouldn’t attend anyway..

Here we go again. 🙄

Your very own Trump or Biden!

Oh no! I hadn't thought of that! hmm

And who financed the poll.

YouGov. "The figures have been weighted and are representative of all GB adults (aged 18+)" It says so. Right there in the results.

Strange that she chose to wear black for the Oprah interview 😉

Why ? Black is smart

Depends where you live... wink

And who financed the poll.

If it’s the Guardian or Independent then it will be biased and prejudiced.

I once saw a pollster standing outside the very left wing council offices, taking a poll from the very left wing council employees (many of whom just clocked in and out then went off to their other under the counter jobs).

Charles wants a big look at me needless Coronation costing tax payers millions amidst the cost of living crisis

Royal family soap opera instead of an accountable checks and balances on government Head of State

I want a republic

I do believe you’ve mentioned this once or twice!

Your very own Trump or Biden!

Maybe instead of having an invitation list we could auction tickets in the Abbey. How much would people pay to see him crowned?

nadateturbe Tue 20-Dec-22 11:56:40

I think everyone knows they're not God's chosen. If we go back to John of Gaunt, we know it's just by chance that Charles is on the throne.
Speaking for myself, I wonder would God approve of the squandering of money and all the pomp and circumstance.

Yammy Tue 20-Dec-22 11:21:27

Thanks, nadateturbe,
I am surmising and I admit that. I have only said what a lot of people are thinking or wanting to say but daren't because they want to seem patriotic or don't want to be shouted down.
With the country on its knees, Ukraine needing many more armaments and Air defence systems.
Can we really be seen as a nation to squander millions on an outdated institution with all its pomp and circumstance? Who really believes Charles and especially Camilla are Gods chosen to rule us? Holy oil!!!! I rest my case.

Oh, so a majority still want a monarchy then?

Interesting.

But a huge number don't.

New poll shows no increase in support for monarchy, despite relentless coverage since the accession of Charles. Support remains well down on previous years at 60% with a quarter wanting to abolish the monarchy, while 15% "don't know".

So true of those that I actually know, not those that I have to use the media to inform me about. Out with them all!!

Ask a few people he really wants whether it be sons or friends,
Tough on those who would like to watch the pageantry whilst confined to the house. The people in the care home were already talking about it.
But who cares about them?

do it on a weekday when everyone is at work. No national holiday.
That’ll go down really well with employers who are not in the hospitality industry and with those who have to work on bank holidays;
not so well with those who get time and a half pay or time in lieu for working bank holidays;
and really badly with those who have been campaigning for extra bank holidays because they feel hard done by next to the EU and thought it would be a start
But who cares?

I care as do a lot of others and if you care to read my other post you would see where I would spend the money. I forgot to add decent accommodation for asylum seekers crossing the Channel in all weathers.

It's a State occasion, not a private party.

Who wants to pay for two elderly people who groomed a young and nieve teenage Diana, because Camilla got put in her place by Lord Mountbatten and told what she was?
When a quarter of the country is turning to food banks even when in work.
We the country should pay for two hypocritical people to be put forward as God's chosen and anointed with Holy Oil, you've got to be joking.
The money could go towards pay rises for all the people who are striking or food banks and free school dinners.
It should be a private party that they pay for they have enough money. The divine right of Kings went out four hundred years ago. What do they do but have family spats and bring tourism?

I do agree with your post Dickens and you will note that I added no frivolous, jocular comment neither on the actual Clarkson thread nor on here.

Joseanne Mon 19-Dec-22 13:58:50

Sorry to derail this thread a bit but on reading the museum bumf I found this ......

Each year, the Fashion Museum invites a respected expert from the fashion industry to select a Dress of the Year that encapsulates the prevailing mood of fashion, represents the past year and captures the imagination.

2021: Giorgio Armani: Black triple silk georgette dress with deep front, lotus flower embroidery. As worn by Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. Selectors: Ibrahim Kamara and Gareth Wrighton.

Joseanne Mon 19-Dec-22 13:53:02

Thanks for the tip off about the museum and comments. Luckily it wasn't the main part of my visit, I should have checked first, but now DH is worried that it allows me more time for spending in the real dress shops instead! Actually it is very damp and wet here in Bath. Afternoon tea in the hotel later seems like the answer.

Enjoy your trip Joseanne
Even if no posh frocks.☹️

Are we having a coronation beano on here next Spring? I’ll bring a bag of Greggs sausage rolls and look lovely in a red and white tee shirt and blue shorts, with matching flip flops very patriotic.

Do you really think my comment was for real vegansrock? Methinks certain lesser topics on GN need a lighter approach sometimes!
Anyway, I'm heading to Bath now for a few days where there's a Museum of Fashion, so I'll look out for some tips for posh frocks.

I hate to tell you Joseanne but the Bath Museum of Fashion is currently closed. They were given notice to quit the Assembly Rooms by the National Trust and are I believe in the process of packing everything up. They will be moving to The Old Post Office, which is nowhere near as attractive a building. I don’t think they will be reopening there for several years. Suggest you check.

If Charles really wanted to portray himself as a modern inclusive monarch. He would have a very scaled-back coronation at his own expense. No holy oil for God's anointed. Keep his wife in the background, I certainly do not see her as special and warranting a lot of pomp and circumstance. A divorced woman who hung around all his married life causing distress to his original wife and probably still does to others.

Also, commission a new national anthem mentioning the people in his realm, not himself.
Just my point of view.

Agree

Didn’t Diana wear black for the Panorama interview?

Seeing as Meghan is so like Diana apparently, at least according to Harry, it makes sense that she would model her ‘look’ for her similar one.
