King Charles coronation

I’m reading today that Charles will be insisting that Harry & Meghan will be invited to his Coronation next year… but why? So they may still whinge & moan and take sneaky pictures for maybe another forthcoming battering of the royal family, moan that all the family will be so cold towards them, that no one is friendly towards them. Charles do your best and don’t invite them, they probably wouldn’t attend anyway..

Grany I totally agree with you....I think that the Royal family should be self sufficient...

Fine, as long as we don't expect anything else of them, eg being our Head of State, being available on demand for many other functions as ambassadors for the UK, supporting charities etc.

I expect they might be very much relieved too, to be free of the demands of an ungrateful public. 🙂

Don’t do main function of a Head of State that is Making sure that a PM doesn’t break the laws of our constitution, as all power is given to the PM. Don’t do much plenty of free time for their own interests and using helicopters at public expense. Did you say charities? It’s been discovered that the RF don’t do much for charities In an independent report from Giving Evidence after much research a fine tooth comb it was found charities do not benefit from royal patronage and shouldn’t seek it. So there.

I scroll on by. Whole threads sometimes. You could try that.

I do, it's a very good idea.

*Grany*, you are a bore.

I was 13 at the time of the coronation. Wore my best dress and watched it on a neighbour’s television. I wasn’t bored. I thought the sense of occasion was quite exciting. It was in black and white, but I saw the colour film later with school.

Did you really watch it all? It started before 10am and ended at 5,20pm. You may just have watched the ceremony in the Abbey

How rude.

There are posts on GN which I find to be absolute repetitive drivel, but I scroll on by. Whole threads sometimes. You could try that.

How dare he claim to sympathise with those struggling to feed their families and heat their homes, just days after demanding more money be spent on his pompous coronation.”

Many others also pointed to the fact that Charles did not pay any inheritance tax – which would have been levied at 40% on anything over £325,000 for anyone else – even on the private estates passed down to him by the former Queen.

I remember the late Queens coronation too, house full of people as we had a TV, built by my radio ham stepfather. It was a horrid wet, cold day and yes it was a bit boring for a 10 year old. The evening it cheered up and we went to the Town Hall for the bun throwing, and then joined a queue in the market square for a slice of beef from the huge ox being roasted. I can remember being very excited and everyone else seemed excited and cheerful too.

Just remembering that for the last coronation our house was full, because we had a TV. I got very bored and as it was raining I couldn't play outside. So I sat in the porch and rolled the coronation ball I'd been given, forwards and backwards against the wall.
70 years later I suppose it will still be boring. I'm too old to play ball I might just go on holiday and watch the highlights when I get back.

Oh, cheerful.

I'll stick to The Happy Haggis in future.

No offence here either. It's a song being sung by Scottish Jacobite prisoners who are going to be executed in the morning, I believe.

Callistemon21 Tue 27-Dec-22 22:14:25

No, I thought it was just a song sung with gusto about different routes to Scotland! Perhaps with references to English soldiers marching north.

Elegran Tue 27-Dec-22 22:07:57

No offence here - I just thought (as it turned out) you hadn't heard of that interpretation.

I was waiting for PaddyAnne's reaction!

Elegran

You do know that taking the low road in that song means being in the grave, Callistemon, don't you?

No, I had no idea!

Sorry, didn't mean any offence.

Joseanne Tue 27-Dec-22 21:23:36

My 7 year old DGD came out with a daft piece of information over Christmas; that she will likely have seen 4 coronations in her lifetime. Or maybe not so daft? I have yet to see one at my "old" age!

Callistemon21 Tue 27-Dec-22 20:01:07

Oh dear! I am behind the times.

Not been further north than Derbyshire for many a year.

volver Tue 27-Dec-22 19:57:18

M74 now.

Gets you here quicker. wink

Callistemon21 Tue 27-Dec-22 19:55:29

Oh, I'm on the left hand side, so the A74.

Callistemon21 Tue 27-Dec-22 19:54:24

Thanks 🙂

I will get there one day.

volver Tue 27-Dec-22 19:50:35

The A68.

wink

As long as I'm in Scotland afore ye.

Which I will be, because I'm already here...

confused

😁
But which road will you take home from Northumberland?

I confess my ignorance by not knowing.

Callistemon21 Tue 27-Dec-22 19:48:16

Jaberwok

It's still rude to point it out whatever the reason.

Not all Scots are rude, Jaberwok
I can vouch for that.

And some are rude and expect you to be rude back again and neither of you gets huffy. Both sides can then have a good laff, larf, laugh (take your pick) together. And a whisky.
