I used to find him mildly amusing and sometimes offensive, but his latest rant in the pages of The Sun is just sick beyond belief.

I sang at a family wedding he attended and sat next to his mother, who was v. nice.
I’m afraid he gives Yorkshire men a bad name, but then I can’t stand Paxo or Michael Parkinson as well as a few I can’t remember.

Last words. Jeremy who?

“Everyone who’s my age thinks the same way.”

No, apparently they don't, Jeremy.
Nor do any right-minded people of any age.
Surprise.

So often politicians and others with extreme right wing views presume to speak for "everyone".

I heard Suella Braverman do this today saying "everyone" supported her policy of sending asylum seekers to Rwanda.

No we do not.

I've noticed how certain politicians do that.

"The British people think...." "The British people are...

I think Clarkson was simply excusing himself - everyone thinks like me and I'm just saying what others think, kind of excuse.

I didn't understand the allusion to 'Game of Thrones' but that doesn't make the comment any less offensive.
The problem is it will give M justifiable scope for playing the victim.

In this instance - she is the victim.

Would there be the same outrage if he was talking about Boris.?

I can't speak for others but I dislike Johnson intensely.

However if anyone voiced an 'opinion' that they hated him more than Fred West and wanted to see him dragged through the streets naked and have excrement thrown at him...

YES, I would be outraged. Because it's inhumane, barbaric, and inciteful to violence from others. Because no-one should be treated like that.

volver Mon 19-Dec-22 19:34:42

I understand that it's your opinion icanhandthemback.

I do disagree with it though; if all the programs on TV were anodyne, the impact would be much less. I remember that scene vividly and it was necessary for the depiction of the character of Cersei. It wasn't at all gratuitous.

There's a scene where a different character jumps out of a window to his death; I found that much more affecting, and it wasn't gratuitous either.

icanhandthemback Mon 19-Dec-22 19:05:58

Volver, I am afraid that is just my opinion. I think some of the violence shown on tv (and video games) desensitises us and makes it too normal.

What on earth does this mean

He has no shame. I remember on Top Gear he even filmed the Columbian man having sex with his donkey.😂

That would be rape, not having sex with ‘his’ donkey. The donkey couldn’t give informed consent. Thankfully if he was discovered in the uk, he could be prosecuted for bestiality.

I’d like to see Clarkson prosecuted for hate speech. Gloriannie mentioned some pages back, if we had misogyny as a hate crime, he could be

Doodledog Mon 19-Dec-22 17:47:18

I never liked Top Gear. My son went through a phase if watching it when he was maybe 12ish, so I saw quite a few episodes and thought he was childish and unpleasant even then (20 years or so ago). He seems to have made a career by appealing to the 'we can't say anything now, he's only saying what everyone is thinking, there are too many snowflakes' brigade.

The comments made to Baggs for not picking up on a KKK reference are unreasonable if in fact Clarkson's reference was to GoT, and not the KKK. Regardless of whether he was picking up on a race-related thing or a fictional 'fantasy' one, what he said was appalling, which is what Baggs was saying, I think.

I really hope this has been a step too far, and he is sacked. I'm all for freedom of expression, but there is opinion and there is invective, and this is very firmly in the latter category, IMO.

I stopped watching his shows a long time ago. He is a bit gross

You may not like him or his rantings, but, he's done what he intended, got you all talking about him.

... "you all"?

Are you aloof from the rest of us gullible posters who didn't realise the man is an attention-seeking, arrogant individual who prides himself on being offensive?

I'm glad we're all talking about him - it might well effect his earnings potential! TV shows are his primary source of net worth along with his contribution as a columnist. People have a habit of distancing themselves from those who make odious comments.

lixy Mon 19-Dec-22 17:17:47

And now he's horrified that he caused hurt apparently according to the BBC news website.
If you say you hate someone surely causing hurt is a given?
Never could stand the man in any of his guises.

Kate1949 Mon 19-Dec-22 17:06:26

I think he's useless on Millionaire. He can be quite rude to the contestants and doesn't know how to interact. He was rude to a friend of mine when she asked for a selfie. Why she wanted a selfie with that odious man is beyond me.

You say he was bullied at Repton? I heard from a friend who was a contemporary of Clarkson that he was always an idiot (those are the polite words I use, not the words my friend used).

I too meet someone who was at School with him.. He said he was a nightmare.

Theoddbird Mon 19-Dec-22 17:03:41

I do think the meal with Camilla came before the newspaper article though. Knowing what he written I think he should not have gone. I do hope he loses his job as host of 'Millionaire' I know I won't watch it anymore with him as host.

I’ve put a complaint in to IPSO, the press watchdog. It’s pure misogyny and likely to encourage deranged beings into hate crimes.

The Independent Press Standards Organisation (Ipso) has received more than 6,000 complaints over an article written by Jeremy Clarkson about the Duchess of Sussex

The number is almost half the total number of complaints the media regulator received in 2021, a spokesman confirmed

*kircubbin2000*, I am surprised you have a laughing emoji on your post. Animals are vulnerable and that sort of act is no laughing matter.
As for it being a scene from a GoT, how does that make it any better? Quite frankly I think the fact that it was acted out on tv is appalling.

GoT is a piece of fiction.

Cersei Lannister is the villain of the piece and the scene is meant to show what happens when the mob turn on their leader.

The fact that it was acted out wasn't appalling at all, expect to make people aware how the world can be a bad place. Cersei gets her own back, BTW.

Blossoming Mon 19-Dec-22 15:46:12

And why shouldn’t we talk about him Eejit? This kind of revolting behaviour needs to be called out, not excused.
