I used to find him mildly amusing and sometimes offensive, but his latest rant in the pages of The Sun is just sick beyond belief.

^The Radio DJ and TV host Edith Bowman wrote on Twitter: “How is someone able to print such abusive comments in an actual newspaper?”^

Ironically, it has been reproduced in The Guardian (and roundly condemned).

Exactly!!!!!!! Surely an offence under threat tompersons?

Farzanah Mon 19-Dec-22 13:29:46

There have been over 6,000 complaints about the Sun article to the press regulator.
Appalling that this even reached print.

Clarkson's daughter Emily is in the public eye.

I would dearly like to ask him how he would feel if someone who took against her for some reason said something similarly violently offensive about her.

What is at the root of this hatred - especially the kind of poisonous spewing from some men of a 'certain age' against women? I can only assume they feel threatened in some way... perhaps their over-inflated - and very delicate - egos can't handle the fact that they are growing old and, along with the rest of us, becoming less relevant to society? Or possibly he's just a misogynist, an inadequate who can't face up to his own inadequacy so has to look for a target to blame for it.

Can't stand the Pratt!

it was a scene from games of thrones apparently..

the Sun should never have allowed clarksons rant to go to press.

They really shouldn't.

It's so horrible - I can't stop thinking about it, and if the 14 year old mentioned by wwm2 upthread suffered as a result, Clarkson should be put in the stocks with the editor of the Sun beside him.

We have a whole raft of Health and Safety rules/laws to protect people who may not know any better from hurting themselves or others. Some of those rules are for things that most of us think, "Why on earth do they need to legislate about that, surely it's obvious!" But we accept that some people may be stupid/ignorant or able to comprehend enough the danger. Surely, what we read in the papers should be akin to that. Most of us know that the sort of rhetoric that Clarkson spouts is offensive nonsense which shouldn't be given air space. However, there are a number of people who live and breathe what their idols think and strangely enough, he has those sort of fans. They will take it on board and believe it is ok to speak and act in this way. Surely we should be protecting them from hate speak as well as the victims? No rubbish about censorship. You can make your point about your dislike of somebody and what they represent without being vile, misogynistic, racist and/or revolting.

@blossoming
It's like the rantings of an immature 14 year old boy. Yet, he's a grown man. Absolutely pathetic.

Keffie12 Mon 19-Dec-22 12:29:14

Allsorts

I don't think most people will worry about it. Never read the Sun.

It's reported in other newspapers online, and allover social media.

You need to read what he has said, if you haven't. People read this stuff and it gives a certain section of society carte blanche to act on it.

Megan has been subjected to years of racism, vitriol, and abuse, started by the main stream media.

If you don't like someone that you haven't met then move on and don't read or bother about them, as you would a person on earthland.

This sort, of things helps whip up to the msyogonists and the foul people to continue it on in the general public.

Scaring women, the right wing media and the women being afraid for their lives and their children

There doesn’t need to be any reference to the KKK for Clarkson’s rant to be offensive, in its own right. The response from my friend Nimco Ali puts it succinctly.

I have never liked him and do not understand why he is allowed on the television to peddle his arrogant encouragement to young men to drive selfishly and badly and he just shows even more what an appalling person he is. Ignore him and dont let him use the publicity to carry on in the same way. Ignoring him totally will upset him far more.

GlamMaJx Mon 19-Dec-22 12:15:17

Blossoming, thank you for your post, it seems as if there is no safe space for Black Women around the British Royal family.

Baggs Mon 19-Dec-22 12:02:54

Except I had read the post in question, V. Just didn't understand it in the expected way. And I still claim it wasn't telling me anything. It was an oblique reference.

Which I also nauseatingly said way back. Do pay attention.

Oreo

I didn’t know about it either.
FFS leave out the witch hunts on here MaizieD and Volver about this.
Not always time to read every post on a thread y’know.

The Sun will be happy to have everybody talking about Clarkson I guess.Sells more papers.
He goes off on disgusting rants now and then, as to the should he be allowed to question, yes it’s a free country. We are free to
Pour scorn on him publicly too.

If I haven't read every single post in a thread, but somebody points out that one of the posts I haven't read tells me something I didn't know, then I don't make a point of explaining ad nauseam that I didn't know, how could I be expected to know, nobody told me etc.

Just saying.

grandtanteJE65 Mon 19-Dec-22 11:52:44

I suppose the kindest way of looking at Clarkson's rant would be to suggest that senile dementia is setting in in some or other form.

That doesn't excuse the editor of the SUN who should quietly have disposed of the article in his wastepaper basket.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 19-Dec-22 11:41:09

Jeremy Clarkson has achieved his objective, he is being talked about on all media outlets.

I am appalled that Jeremy Clarkson said this and even more appalled that a national Newspaper thought it appropriate to print.

(As for Jeremy Clarkson’s Farm I am the only one in my family that didn’t watch it in lockdown, the overall opinion is that it was very good)

Neilspurgeon0 Mon 19-Dec-22 11:35:04

I was not overly surprised that he wrote it, bit if drunken one upmanship over Piers Morgan probably, but what did surprise me was that a British newspaper, albeit the execrable Sun, actually published it

25Avalon Mon 19-Dec-22 11:31:19

I think Clarkson has shown himself up for what he is. I can’t find the link with the KKK but a horrible thing to say regardless. The KKK had 3 existences since the first one was formed after the Civil War. As time went on they were also anti Jew, anti catholic, anti adulterous white women, anti immigrants as well as anti black and anyone who spoke up for them. There were horrific incidents of violence far worse than that cited.

If you are really interested take a look at Ku-Klux-Klan-A- History of Racism pdf on www.spicentre.org It’s 60 pages long so make sure you have time.

Oreo Mon 19-Dec-22 11:29:04

Donald Trump’s father was a member of the KKK so I have read.

Another here that did not know about the KKK parading black women naked through the streets, although I don’t doubt it happened. A throwback to slavery days when women were paraded naked at slave auctions wether they were black or white, around the world there were/are plenty of white slaves.

There may have been white slaves Katie59 but I doubt if you can identify one country whose prosperity was built on that, whereas there are numerous countries- the UK and US amongst them-whose whole economy was built on black slavery, and a lot of rich people (the RF amongst them) who made their money from black slavery.

There was someone on the H&M series commenting about how racism in the UK is covert racism. This seems to be a perfect example. No doubt The Sun has taken legal advice but quite how this can't be a hate crime I don't know. One thing it does highlight for me is the fact that perhaps it is time misogyny was made a hate crime because there is no doubt that this is hostility towards a woman and it should be illegal.

Baggs Mon 19-Dec-22 11:00:05

So, yeah, there's clear communication and there's indirect communication in which assumptions of other people's knowledge are made and which, if people don't 'get it', can be used against them later.

Sorted.
