I used to find him mildly amusing and sometimes offensive, but his latest rant in the pages of The Sun is just sick beyond belief.

I can’t believe - truly - that people are ignorant about the Klu Klux Klan and the appalling activities that they undertook in the USA, and the civil rights movement that took place throughout our young life in the USA

In fact I don’t believe it. How can anyone NOT know about it?

throughout our young life in the USA

You know, I know but some Gransnetters may be much younger and don't know much about the more recent history of the USA .
History has not been a compulsory subject at GCSE level for many years, either.

Baggs Sun 18-Dec-22 15:27:19

You need to explain the connection you see between Clarkson's article and the KKK.

People's dislike of Meghan's and Harry's behaviour is nothing to do with race.

Baggs Sun 18-Dec-22 15:25:45

Who has said they don't know about KKK, wwmk2?

Kate1949 Sun 18-Dec-22 15:22:41

I know all about the KKK. I just don't see what it's got to do with what Clarkson said.

Its called "being educated".

I’ve never studied American history so call me uneducated if it pleases you although I have the qualifications to prove differently.
I’m not that interested in American racial history. I doubt I’m alone in that.

Goodness, even in our insular, Britain first, little island the US Civil Rights movement got rather a lot of media coverage in the 1960s & & 70s.

Did it all pass you by?

EMMF1948 Sun 18-Dec-22 14:37:43

So it would be OK to say it about a man, only women deserve to be protected?

Why would we be aware of the KKK in the southern states. We are not American.

I’m not French but I know about the guillotine.

I’m not South African but I know about apartheid.

Now, we could arrange for a posse of Gransnetters to go round to Diddly Squat and do likewise to him.

The problem is, he'd probably enjoy it.
🤔

He'd think it hilarious and go on to write an article about it!

Glorianny Sun 18-Dec-22 14:26:18

The sexual allegations are interesting in that these were the same things said about Mrs Simpson at the time of the abdication, that she had learned sexual techniques to trap Edward. She was supposed to have learned these in Singapore brothels. There's an interesting novel called The Duchess by Wendy Holden which speculates that she was abused and dragged around the brothels by her first husband.
I thought we'd got past evil women using sex to control men, but maybe it's more to do with Jeremy's fantasies than anything else.

Kate1949 Sun 18-Dec-22 13:53:35

It was a horrible thing to say but I can't see why it was racist or see any comparison to the KKK.

Maybe you aren't aware of the racism that went on in other countries. I've never studied American history either. Still able to understand what went on though.

And "not being interested" isn't a get out of jail free card for ignoring the fact that racism went on in the Southern states and was an undercurrent to Clarkson's rant. Along with Jane Shore, another woman who got above her station where the monarchy was concerned. Of course, you may not be interested in that either.

I’m not that interested Volver/Allegrias whatever name you’re using at the moment.
Manana manana manana.

Oh, how clever.

I'm going to clean the toilet.

A more intellectual pastime that engaging with some posters on social media.

VioletSky Sun 18-Dec-22 13:48:50

There are some who still love him

But take comfort, to many he is just a silly irrelevant hasbeen not worth the time to read his comments

Please point out the racial undertones, wwmk2. In my naivety I didn't spot them.

Are you not aware that the KKK carried out these sort of activities in the Southern States?

Which sort of activities? – Writing bilge in The Sun?

I’d say it’s an article that’s offensive to all women, regardless of colour, regardless of those named in it.

Appalled by Clarkson, by the Sun and by all his supporters and apologists on this thread.

I agree. I expect some apologist for JC to pop up to say its only banter. And maybe to claim that perhaps it is because I am so woke that I find this article grossly offensive.

Personally, I don’t think Harry is like Basil Brush, a puppet. He gets off far too lightly. He is equally culpable.

Clarkson has gone totally over the top but I don’t think it’s racially motivated, it’s her character that he despises. After all Rose West and Nicola Sturgeon are not black. He throws them into the mix.

Anyway, he’s attracted a lot of attention to himself, possibly more than he envisaged when he wrote it. It will be interesting to see what happens next.
