Happy Christmas Eve everyone. I’ve just listened to ‘Walking in the Air’ and thought that’s what all those we’ve lost are doing with us today.
Love to all x

Susan I will pray for him.
Susan I will keep your little one in my thoughts today.💐
Good morning Michael and all GNs from what promises to be a bright, cold, South Yorkshire. DS went home late yesterday afternoon to be with his family, and I was on my Jack but not for long. My neighbour came round for a chat, then my cousin phoned from Ireland for a great bit of ‘craic’. He had emailed me a photo of my grandfather - the first I’d ever seen. He died the year after I was born. Then another neighbour and his wife called in so I had company that I wasn’t expecting. Today Dd and her menfolk will bring Christmas here and stay for a couple of nights. But I feel sad today. DH loved Christmas. It was always his time and this is my first without him. Persta atqui obdura. Be steadfast and endure. I will polish the silver, wash the crystal and dig out the candles for tomorrow, because it’s what he always did.
Good to see you Whitewave!
Have the best Christmas you can, folks and every good wish from me.
So very sorry to hear that Susan love, thoughts and prayers on there way🙏💐
Good morning Auntyflo and all x
Susan56 I do, and I will. I've a very disabled granddaughter and there were 5 days in Covid when she was at life's edge. So precious, will light a candle for him. I felt, "take me, its not fair".
Welcome WhiteW.
I'm not seeing family till NYears Eve so its a welcome quiet time here, but must face the traffic for the gym.
May all Christmasses go -roughly- according to plan and take care on major roads today.
Good morning and happy Christmas from the Peak District. I haven’t posted on here for a while but have been watching all your doings!
The drive from North Yorkshire was ok yesterday despite the rain.
Lots of family time over the next few days.
Stay safe everyone.

Good morning all from East Yorkshire. It’s dry and brighter than the last couple of days.
Like you all another day of getting there! If completely forgotten my hair appt at 10 but that will be a relaxing half an hours break.
Going out for a late lunch and home to get cosy and will have some fizz and nibbles later. I have the option of accompanying DIL and GS with the evening Carol service but I’m feeling pretty shattered. I also think I am joining you Mick I’m coming down with the lurgey.
I’d just like to bow out and wish you all a very Happy Christmas whatever the festive season holds for you. Like Urms I enjoy reading this morning thread. When I first joined there was so many posts and I thought how will I remember who they are, families, lives etc but after nearly 2 years all I do 😀. Love to you all.
Good morning all from the Scottish Borders.
Still food shopping to do and picking up some last things.
I haven't hosted Christmas dinner since 2019 when life was different.
I'm going to make lists!
DS is on the road today so I will be anxious about that family. He's heading to his sister in the Highlands .
I love the gingerbread house gMattie
Merry Christmas everyone.
Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 5° and damp. Welcome Whitewater Yesterday the plumber didn't arrive so I still have no shower. Oh well, I can wash in the bath. Last minute good shopping was done yesterday.
Today I'll be out all morning visiting various family and friends. I intend to have a quiet afternoon and evening though as I'm still getting over covid. I wish you all a happy Christmas.
Good morning from a bright, mild and dry Colchester. I slept late and was woken by daylight.
DH will be cooking Turkey to take to DD2s tomorrow and I will clean up.
We will be back to spending the late afternoon in a tiny Riverside pub with friends after missing a couple of years.
Love to all 🦩 x
👋 Whitewave and welcome.
Good morning from Sefton.
Both DSs with children and dogs have said they’re popping in - excitement, noise and busyness will fill the day. We’re wishful that the item from a major store is finally * delivered, that we won’t have to write an IOU. (* Two days have stretched to two weeks and counting.)
🤞
Birthday greetings to baublesDGD3. Enjoy the mulled wine Mick. Cheers!

DS, DDiL and DGS arriving later so must get ahead. Original plan for me was a quiet solo day tomorrow; scuppered that myself by inviting a recently widowed friend to lunch. Then suggested that DS etc (and dog) stay overnight before they went to have lunch with exDiL and DGD2. So far, so good, but DGD2’s baby, due two weeks ago, has as I write yet to put in an appearance. So I may find myself stretching the duck for two into something for five, a challenge even by my standards.
So I am off to rootle in the freezer to see what else I could add to tomorrow’s festive meal, reflecting that it is typical of DGD2 to ensure that she is at the centre of events! Fingers crossed for a safe outcome.
Despite it all, I am quietly amused that a new baby is at the centre of my world again, as it should be. Hope everyone has a successful day without culinary disasters.
Good morning everyone from a grey and damp Northampton, but at least it's stopped raining after yesterday's very wet day.
Everything is done apart from showering and dressing and packing my bag to take to DS's.
But yesterday he messaged to say he has no idea when he'll be able to pick me up, as their car has a flat tyre and he needs to try and get it fixed urgently - he needs it to get to work in London tomorrow and Monday as there are no trains. Keeping my fingers crossed!
The cats were sent off to the cattery yesterday morning; seems strange this morning without one of them trying to climb onto my lap as I write this.
I cooked the ham yesterday and sorted all the food I need to take to DS today; sausage rolls, mince pies, Christmas cake and pudding. We are having our Christmas dinner today as DS is working tomorrow.
When everything was done I sat down with a glass of sherry and watched my favourite Christmas film, 'Miracle on 34th Street ', and shed a tear or two.
Wishing everyone a happy Christmas Eve with the hopes that we can all sit and have a few minutes peace on this busy day.
Good morning Mick and all from soggy but not cold Lueneburg. I just wanted to wish you all a Happy Christmas and a Peaceful New Year.
Today my DDIL will pick me up and take me to Hamburg. We are exchanging our Xmas gifts today. I am staying there until tomorrow evening with Waldi. My granddaughter wants to bake some Xmas biscuits with me today. Tomorrow we are eating goose which is traditional here.
I do read your chats and love Matt and the train information to Liverpool. I wish you all happiness and good health and a super 2023. Where have the years flown to?
Big hugs to all who want them.
Nice to see you posting, Whitewave.
Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow, where it's 5°C.
A gentle day is a good idea Mick. Ash, lovely card. BHF is such a worthwhile cause, I'm relying on their research into my condition to help me!! Its great to hear of you getting out and about.
I'm having an easy day today, I have a bit of a chest infection and no voice. Unfortunately, a simple cold is problematic for me, but I'm determined to have a great Christmas regardless.
It won't be the easiest of times, as we are trying to support DD's husband after the death of his sister.
On top of that DIL's parents hate Christmas (as did my mother) and every year, they make life difficult for her, but I'm determined not to let them spoil it, Christmas is a very big family occasion for us.
Their latest ploy, is to dictate to her, how much time she, DS and wee Dollie can spend with us. 😡 unfortunately they are our neighbours and TIME her visits.
Despite that, I can't believe how excited I am.
Mr MD has gone all nostalgic and is missing the Christmases, when the children were young.
However, I'm not nostalgic for all the shopping, cleaning, cooking , trailing round family and DH snoring in the chair, while I cleared up! 😉
I have made chocolate fudge, tablet and little truffles, which resemble Christmas puddings for my neighbours, I just need to box them up this morning.
I always like to make something. Last year it was whisky marmalade and tablet.
For some reason, Grammaretto, you came to mind, when I was making the tablet.
I wish you all a very pleasant day and a gently one for all who are poorly.
Morning Mick, morning All from a wonderfully dry corner of Somerset.
Off out for some air this morning, haven’t seen the beach for far too long. Little to do then as our son and his daughters are hosting Christmas Day so we’ll be off along the motorways bright and early tomorrow.
Pleased to report our Littlest was beginning to make some progress yesterday. He’s a stoic little lad, never complains. Thank you all for your kindness yesterday.
Good to see you whitewave, you’ll be made welcome by everyone in mick’s gentle thread. Hope those cold symptoms disappear mick and a thank you for this space to connect with so many people. A get well wish to all under the weather. A special thought to those finding this season hard going.
Safe travels to everyone on the move. Hope Christmas Eve is kind to us all.
