Good morning all from Glasgow, still dark and very still outside. The calm before the storm until the roads become chaotic with traffic jams and tailbacks.

I did a final shop at our local M&S food hall yesterday, driving at a snail’s pace. I was prepared for hold ups with a coffee and enjoyed listening to golden oldies on radio gold for a longer than usual journey. I returned home after 6.00pm to a standing ovation and well done from DH. All in the spirit of Christmas, we had a celebratory glass of chilled white as we unpacked and put away the shopping. Decadent living😄

Wishing all a happy Christmas Eve. 🌲

Good morning from a brightening Leicestershire.

DD and SiL had an easy journey up yesterday as the roads were quiet. Contracts were exchanged on their new house in the morning so they are in high spirits.

We are eating out tonight at a local pub and cannot make up my mind whether to get a taxi or drive. If I drive I might be in better shape tomorrow 😂.

Wishing everyone a good day and I hope all those poorly little ones are feeling better.

Good morning all this Christmas Eve from Harrogate. It’s still dark here. A busy day in front. Heading over to DD1s house midday, calling at a shop or two. DDs house will be bedlam, with her sister and Dgs. And their family friend, it’s sad, she promised the friends wife when she was dying that she’d watch out for her husband, he’s quite an obnoxious man. Since he’s been coming the guests have lessened quite a bit.
After lunch DDwants us all to make our way to the market place where a nativity will be taking place.
After that for DH and I it will be home James and get ready for tomorrow. When we return loaded with presents.
Have a wonderful weekend folks

👋 to you WWmk2 it’s nice to have you join us!

monk08 Sat 24-Dec-22 07:57:05

Welcome Whitewave 👋 you sound like you have a busy day as far as your breakfast goes I'd join the dog with the toast and bacon, I have a full English coming up soon my once a week treat.

grandMattie Sat 24-Dec-22 07:54:28

No doggies here 🤣… The connection is DODGY !

grandMattie Sat 24-Dec-22 07:53:38

Good morning from a dawning Bristol.

I wrote a long post earlier which got swallowed up by a doggy connection, which constantly slip! Grr.

Iris spent the morning decorating her gingerbread house. The fence did make it, being rotten and having succumbed to a snowstorm!

Like Urms, all you, my dear virtual friend, regularly slip into my thoughts during the day, even if I don’t mention you by name.

Busy day ahead, had a late start as I took a sleeping pill last night. We’re preparing to feed 14 tomorrow, plus at least 2 service for DD, one this afternoon.
I hope today brings much joy and is gentle to you all. Carpe diem, dear friends. 🦩🦩🦩🦩🦩

Good Morning Mick and everyone from Hull.

Wishing your DGD a very happy 7th birthday Baubles 🎉

It’s our Christmas dinner today so I have to produce something magnificent for 8 adults and 3 GC mind you they eat like sparrows so they’ll graze. We have little surprises for everyone and the GC will open new pyjamas before they go home. My sons partner is joining us too. They got together a year ago so he’s raved about our Christmas Eve. 🎉

I just want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and to echo Urmstongran this is a lovely thread and you feel like friends. 💐💐💐💐

Thinking as well of those suffering stress worries and illness. 🌻🎄

Good morning from the South Downs.

I never post on here, but thought I would start in the hope that I can keep it up every day.

Yesterday I went out with DD for our annual Christmas trip. We went to Chichester for lunch - The Ivy - then to the cathedral for the carols and imbibe the Christmas spirit.
Caught up with all the family news.

It is dry and mild outside, and the first thing is to take the dog out for his morning constitutional and meet all our dog walking friends - when he wakes up - he is laying in his bed at the moment gently snoring. I’m sat in bed with a cup of tea.
Back home for breakfast - us porridge with fruit, dog bacon and toast.
Then finish the ironing, make fish pie for lunch with mincemeat and apple tart with ice cream.
Stuff and cook a Turkey to have cold on Boxing Day. Finish off the gammon, by roasting it with marmalade and cloves.

This evening we have been invited to a neighbours for our pre-Christmas get together with food - we all take a dish, and bottle - mine is a stack of profiteroles with caramel and cream, probably a bottle of fizz.

Home to bed🎅

Good morning from a damp NE where it is 5 degrees.
We had heavy rain all day yesterday.
Had a quiet day and gave myself a day off from housework.
Made a list of what we will be eating tomorrow so that I don't forget things, happening more and more.
I wish you all a peaceful Christmas.

Jaxjacky Sat 24-Dec-22 07:45:58

Meant to say Urmstongran my daughter had her two at Total Ninja yesterday, no injuries!

Chrissielou Sat 24-Dec-22 07:44:37

A murky wet morning in Oxfordshire. A very busy day yesterday, much cooking and prep was completed. My DS1 will come at lunchtime to stay for a few days and we will meet DD and family at DS2's home for food and proscecco to kick off the celebrations.
I'm very mindful of those with worries and illness, those who are lonely or frightened, I hope you find peace and laughter over the coming days. Happy Christmas to all my virtual friends. flowers

Good morning from a soggy North East Hants. Went out at 5.30am to collect my meat order from Butchers. Have lined all the baking trays with tin foil. I would start on making the sausage rolls etc. but a chap is coming before 1pm to do something safety related to the cooker. I have a hairdressers appointment at 1-ish and hope by then to have hoovered all the carpets and blitzed the bathroom. I want to watch Glass Onion some time to-day also. No TV tonight as daughter is coming round and there will be lots of happy chatting to do. Everyone I hope, enjoy the day.

monk08 Sat 24-Dec-22 07:38:00

Good morning all from the Black country, haven't peeped out yet but I do know the rain has finally stopped.
Another who echoes Urms thoughts this is a lovely thread.
Just a quick local trip to shops to pick some flowers for my host tomorrow, we always spend Christmas day with Dils family and have done since they were engaged. This year will be a little different 2 of her sisters and families are not there but we will get to meet the Ukrainian family her mother is hosting.
Best wishes for anyone celebrating, safe travels those on the move and virtual hugs where needed.
Take care all enjoy your Christmas eve and may you all find some 🌞.

Urmstongran Sat 24-Dec-22 07:37:46

I’ve just had a text.
“Mum, have you got a carrot for Rudolph? Please bring one later”
😁

ginny Sat 24-Dec-22 07:34:56

Good morning everyone.
I have my list of jobs to hand and will be delegating to various people
Most of the family are coming for our meal out this evening and then there will be 11 of us for Christmas lunch plus a plate for our next door neighbour who is unable to get out and will be on her own. I’ll keep my mouth zipped about her own family.
I really enjoyed the Panto yesterday and watching the faces and the excitement of the two little ones was magical.
Tomorrow might be rather busy so I hope you all enjoy the festivities in whatever way makes you happy.

kittylester Sat 24-Dec-22 07:31:10

Good morning all from a dingy North Leicestershire.

Up early today as I have a scan at 10 and then we are delivering presents to DD1 and DD3 before DS1 pops in this pm.

Have a good day everyone.

Jaxjacky Sat 24-Dec-22 07:29:35

Good morning from a mild S Hampshire. Well if it’s not done/in the house/on the list, it’s not happening!
Meeting up with my son and family for a quick lunchtime drink and present swap, then my daughter and grandchildren arrive for a festive stay.
I wish you all a gentle and peaceful Christmas 🦩🦩🎄.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 24-Dec-22 07:28:53

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. Hopefully not too much to do today apart from cooking a chicken for Monday’s Coronation chicken. Younger son will make fish pie for tonight and I will put another bottle of wine in the fridge. We need to move around the furniture as we will eat in the Conservatory tomorrow. I also need to make a list of all the Christmas food which is currently in the freezers and bring it out to defrost ready for tomorrow. Two days ago I ordered a couple of serving plates in the Emma Bridgewater sale and they are being delivered today! Not by Royal Mail I hasten to add. I hope we all have a peaceful Christmas Eve.

Oopsadaisy1 Sat 24-Dec-22 07:20:10

Good morning from a wet Oxfordshire.

Busy day today so I’ll wish you all a Happy Christmas Eve, have a good day everyone.

brook2704 Sat 24-Dec-22 07:05:57

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it feels chilly and I think there’s some rain forecast
Enjoy your mulled wine mick and take it easy today
Happy 7th Birthday to your DGD baubles such a lovely age, I bet she’s super excited!
My journey home from Cambridge yesterday was fine, just a bit of train disruption and a short half hour delay on the flight. As always it was lovely to see everyone and it feels very quiet here this morning! Today if a few last minute things to do and then we’re preparing the veg to take to DD2s tomorrow
Hoping everyone finds something to enjoy today and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Abitbarmy Sat 24-Dec-22 07:05:54

Good morning everyone from my bed in darkest North Yorkshire. Had an awful week with some sort of flu bug but at least feel well enough I think now to perform the necessary duties. Got all my immediate family for lunch tomorrow, here’s hoping the twins, now into their third month, sleep soundly for a couple of hours at least. Some jobs haven’t been done but don’t suppose anyone but me will notice. I echo Urmst thoughts on this thread, it is lovely. Best wishes to you all for a peaceful and as happy as possible Christmas. x

SunshineSally Sat 24-Dec-22 06:55:12

Good morning everyone from a dark south Hants. I haven’t peeked through the curtains yet to check on the weather - but I can’t hear any rain.
Southern Water reckon that everyone should now have water and we do - but the pressure is low.
Busy day today - Delivering some presents and then spending time with DH’ parents. Oh and I can finally blitz the bathroom!
I’m going to cook my gammon today too.
Happy Birthday to your DGD3 Baubles
Lovely card Ashcombe
I know what you mean Urmstongran - I also enjoy this gentle thread.
Have the best day you can lovelies. Thinking of those with in pain and those that have worries 🦩🦩🦩
Hugs and 💐💐 for you all. Remember to be kind to yourselves - you so deserve it x

BlueBalou Sat 24-Dec-22 06:52:50

Good morning, it’s a murky start here in my corner of Wiltshire.
A few last minute bits and pieces to do then a quiet day here. We’ll have a nice dog walk first thing then she’ll settle for a few hours, maybe head along the canal I think. There’s a lovely cafe we can stop at.
Wishing you all a happy Christmas and a lovely festive time x

Urmstongran Sat 24-Dec-22 06:22:37

Here’s Matt.

Good morning Mick and everybody from south Manchester. It’s dark but seems mild and dry. We have a pleasant day ahead. First Himself will nip into the larder to collect a turkey crown and a rib of beef. The Boy Wonder and L’il Miss are being taken to Total Ninja this morning so our help isn’t needed. Mum thought I’d be a good idea for them to burn off some excited energy for an hour. She’s up to sitting there with a coffee (good) and son-in-law has finished work till Thursday so he will drive them.

We are out after lunch, exchanging presents with some friends who are neighbours from where we had our house then it’s a hop, skip and a jump over to my stepfather’s for a couple of hours and sit with some malt whisky. He says he’s got a special one waiting to be opened on our arrival. I don’t like to think of him being alone on Christmas Eve so we’ve always done this since mum died, almost five years ago now. We raise a glass to absent family and friends.

Enjoy Christmas Eve (finally!) if you can. Best wishes to all of you - you make this thread so lovely. I enjoy our little catch up every morning. I really do feel connected to you all and often find myself thinking about your doings during the day. x
