I once went to the butcher’s and asked for ‘dogs bones’. He said he wasn’t allowed to sell meat other than pork, chicken ,lamb etc.
Iwas so embarrassed, but then that was his aim I realised later.

Similarly

I wanted to know whether the bus went near my house so asked the bus driver how it got to the destination named on the front. He rolled his eyes and said 'I drive the bus on the road'.
I was so embarrassed - got straight off and walked home instead!

I once ordered toffeee and chocolates from Thornton's, then realised that I had stupidly typed the wrong house number on the delivery section of the form. I phoned up and apologised for my silly error, and it was speedily corrected.
I was very impressed with the prompt handling of my problem, and left a comment to that effect on their website.
I didn't know that they had a 'monthly draw' of the customers' comments, so was delighted to receive a phone call telling me that they were sending me a duplicate of my first order - absolutely free!
One mistake that turned out well. Thornton's products are fantastic, especially their toffee......though my teeth don't cope with it too well, any more! 🥰

Yes I know it was a joke. But when you are young things like that can embarrass you. The butcher was just that sort of man who liked to’tease’ young girls

Like saying I opened the door in my pyjamas and being told "that's a funny place to have a door!?" ?

Priceless I'm not sure I'd be too embarrassed as understandable...I hope you both laughed.

I once complained about quite a large amount of money taken out of my account by the local electricity provider. It turned out that I had bought a lap top to that price in their shop on the given date. Oooops!

I feel your stupidity Calendergirl. We've all been there and I've had more than a hefty dose of egg on my face in too any situations like that.

Much, much worse. I once shouted at a boy at school who was constantly naughty and had done something else. Only to discover it wasn't him and he had just accepted being told off, because he was so used to being in trouble. I apologised but felt awful for a long time about it. Poor kid.

I complained that they'd changed the school uniform at my child's school and how was we supposed to afford another uniform? and got a reply saying it clearly stated in the email communications that the uniform for their school year group was free and the funds had been raised by the PTA to cover this

I do that sometimes with discounts. Someone offers 20% off and it turns out it's only for purchases over £50 or similar. Very frustrating when you're only spending £20.

I remember my daughter at 12 or 13 sending a savagely critical letter to the BBC complaining about a programme. She received a charming letter saying they completely understood her point of view, but as it was aired on ITV they were unable to monitor its content!

I’ve done something very similar, then apologised and hung my head in shame.

I remember complaining to Tesco about an item only to be told it was Sainsbury’s.

Don't worry I've been there and worn the T shirt on more than one occasion. Like you I made sure I promptly apologised.

We can all make mistakes. Your apology was excellent. Many wouldn't have done that.
