What are your plans for New Years Eve?

We usually watch a film, see the fireworks from London and then go to bed. We usually have MissOops dog as they are usually surrounded by Fireworks and she gets very stressed. Let’s hope we don’t get any locally this year.

We used to pop into the local pub but along with most pubs nowadays you have to book and pay for the whole evenings entertainment and we aren’t interested in that.

We went out last NYE with friends. Not bothering this year as local bars are all stating ‘no ticket required’. No thank you! I don’t fancy trying to push ourselves into a bar at 9pm that’s already rammed with no seats available, not my idea of a comfortable night. I prefer a planned, ticketed experience like last year, with a buffet and a quiz/music leading up to midnight.

However NYD will be our total immediate family of 9 and I’ve already bought some VC rosé champagne to celebrate the special day. That’ll do nicely this time around.

I’m praying for a downpour

DS and family spent this Christmas with DDiL's family, but arrived with us yesterday and will be with us for the New Year, which we will spend together at home, doing what we do most evenings at Christmas when they are here, play games, read books and talk. We will see the year in on the tv, then go to bed.

But like Greyduster, with both children home I will be remembering years past. We had a long standing family relationship, parents and children, based on the close friendship between us, two women. When the children were still living at home, we always spent the New Year together .

This year my friend died very suddenly and her husband, just diagnosed with dementia, just fell off a cliff, metaphorically speaking, and is now in care and unable to remember anything, or even recognise us. So with all of us at home this year New Year will be a mixture of joy and sadness, looking back and looking forward.

Bed at usual time with my lovely cat and a good book, and the hope that I can sleep through the fireworks to wake up ready to start 2023.

We will be at home having a nice meal with two friends. The cooking will be shared between us.

No celebrations for me - I’ll probably be fast asleep by midnight. We always celebrated New Year with a couple who were our best friends but then he died and the heart went out of it. Now my DH has gone and I will remember the first New Year’s Eve we ever spent together, not long after we met, in Trafalgar Square, with me just managing to get on the last train back to my barracks at Mill Hill, and him walking back to his in Albany Street.

We are in bed before midnight.

I'm invited to a party next door but don't think I will go. I'm just starting a cold I think. I'll probably watch the fireworks from London and then go to bed.

I’m not a big NYE fan but we are driving up to our holiday let this morning our son and his wife will join us there this evening.
We are going to have roast beef, lovely cheese and Xmas pudding.
At 11.30 pm we go th the Cathedral for a short service then process to the market square to bring in the NY with all the local dignitaries and a band.

We will watch a film and probably have a drink at home followed by bed at around 10pm. Neither of us are nightowls and the thought of going to the local pub and celebrating with almost complete strangers just doesn't appeal. There's always fireworks at midnight too, sometime we sleep through them, sometimes we don't and that's no great issue.
Growing up, my family never made a big thing about New Year celebrations and up to retirement my OH and I mostly worked the night shift anyway.

I shall be taking my GS to the panto early evening oh yes I will. Then home for nibbles and fizz.

Nothing out the ordinary for me, bed usual time (10pmish), after non exciting tv.

Not a fan of New Year, our family never made anything of it as I was growing up, and suppose it has carried on with me.

I know, boring!

We will be watching the fireworks from the seafront in Funchal Madeira. So excited. For a little island their display is one of the best in the world.

Just out to a local pub with a friend, 3 other people we know will be there. There is a DJ and food in with the ticket price. Last spent New Year there 2019 before Covid, and we enjoyed it, so decided to do it again.

As I like to sit watching the New Year's Day Concert from Vienna live on BBC which starts about 10am, I usually go to bed fairly early on NYE. Very boring I know but parties with crowds of folk are now just seen by me as the place to catch flu, COVID etc. I now turn down invitations. New Year's Day I get up and wear a party type dress, open a bottle of champagne and enjoy the show. OH will probably join me to watch the Concert but as he is picking folk up from the airport later won't be drinking! Happy New Year!

No plans to venture out. I’m ambivalent about the whole celebration thing, always have been.

Going out with a group of friends to a local club which is doing a Johnny Cash and Neil Diamond night plus evening meal. Hope we get a chance to singalong and maybe a bit of a dance. We nearly always celebrate NYE with friends and we used to have them round here but now we are older we all prefer to go out, less work.

No plans just an evening at home with a cuppa and a nice biscuit probably in bed by 11 but will also watch the midnight fireworks from my bedroom window.

Unfortunately just bed for me not that I don’t like it but can’t afford pubs these days and don’t know anyone doing anything
