Everyone has been very kind and generous but often people misjudge what things you will like.
I keep a box of unused presents that I cannot regift. This year I added shower gel, body scrub, candles, a sewing set and a jigsaw.
Did you get anythings you won't use?

Yes, Dickens, it is the Tardis teapot and mug, both with lids.
It's rather lovely in a way, well made anyway. I suppose I could use it occasionally. It would be a talking point! smile

I’m like you bigbertha as regards shower gels, smellies but all in my two favourite brands. DH also does me a stocking filled with every day stuff ie deodorants, make up wipes, dove soap. I don’t think I need to visit Bodycare at all this year 🤣

Bubble bath. We have a walk in shower!

I loved mine but got very few as the older AC were not doing presents this year. Laptop and molton brown toiletries from DH, Louis Roederer champagne and Jo Malone toiletries from the (very wealthy) relatives from Luxembourg. A lovely carriage clock from youngest DD - we bypassed the no present rule. Best of all the annual calendar of the youngest GC.

yes - COVID!!!! and because of the dire viral thingy nothing else at all! Bah Humbug....

Fleurpepper Wed 28-Dec-22 11:53:03

Honestly, we stopped buying presents for all like this- by mutual agreement. Of course ACs and GCs- and for the rest of family, only if we spend Christmas together. It is such a huge commercial nonsense, and so much waste due to above as in title. What is the point?

Smileless2012 Wed 28-Dec-22 11:56:08

You're not alone Maw our lovely girls our neighbours, bought us a bottle of gin eachblush.

Callistemon21 Wed 28-Dec-22 11:59:52

Lynne has a massive box of Ferrero Rocher, which neither of us likes
Oh, just remembered that I bought a large box of these to take on Christmas Day.
They're still here, I don't like them much either. DH does but they're not good for him 😀

pandapatch Wed 28-Dec-22 12:02:25

People also keep buying me gin, because they know it's my favourite tipple, which is kind, but I have enough to last for the rest of the year!!!!

Jaxjacky Wed 28-Dec-22 12:03:21

Nothing unwanted this year, but I did last and donated to our local RNIB, as tombola prizes.

Smileless2012 Wed 28-Dec-22 12:03:27

I love them, my favourite chocs so Mr. S. always buys me some for Christmas. I'm more than happy to take them off your hands for the sake of your DH's health Callistemon.

It was my birthday at the beginning of December and DH bought me a small handbag, of a design l might not have chosen myself, with a pretty necklace inside. I gave him some ideas for Christmas but no notice was taken so I was slightly bemused to receive a huge handbag, again in a style l almost certainly would not have chosen, containing a silver chain. I was told it was for the necklace l received for my birthday and much better quality than the chain that was already on it. Still, it is far better than the memorable Christmas when my grandfather gave my grandmother a chip pan for her Christmas present. He somehow survived….

My lovely neighbour bought me a dressing gown and PJ's - don't usually wear PJ's and already have a couple of dressing gowns.
However I'm away on a hen-do in January so will take two dressing gowns as we have a hot tub in the accommodation so can let one get wet and will wear PJs when dossing around.
The slippers, Lush products and a years supply of No 7 products are always welcome and always used. DH can have my Chocolate Orange as I don't eat chocolate.
But the raffle prizes won at various fundraisers will probably go on the Hen-do. I'm not a Pink Gin Drinker and we can have fun with cocktails with the other bottles. Nothing is being wasted this year!! grin

Your GF was a brave man Musicgirlgrin.

A tote bag with a name on it that isn't mine. Some liquid soap and hand cream in huge plastic (non recyclable) bottles.

No unwanted gifts this year. DD1 gave me a longline cardi I’d admired back in November, when we were out shopping together and DD2 gave me an Oodie. Evidently I need to keep warm.
We’ve agreed with friends that we’ll go out for a meal for celebrations but we’re saving the Christmas one till it’s not the ‘festive menu’ price.

bevisp1 Wed 28-Dec-22 12:21:43

I usually get some toiletries, woolly scarfs, both things I cannot use. Very sensitive skin and allergic to wool. Luckily close family know this but if I do get these then I save them for following year where a work colleague asks for donations towards the annual Christmas fayre, to raise funds for the local church. She’s happy….I’m happy to have helped.

kircubbin2000 Wed 28-Dec-22 12:36:17

My neighbour sent me a card for Nancy. He must have misheard my name when we first met.😃

twiglet77 Wed 28-Dec-22 12:44:10

I was given a bottle of chain-store scent from someone who’d normally give chocolates… it’s not that personal a friendship and I’m pretty sure it’s been regifted!

JaneJudge Wed 28-Dec-22 12:49:58

I liked all my presents

OnwardandUpward Wed 28-Dec-22 12:55:03

No, I had very few gifts because I have come to the agreement with most friends and relatives to not buy gifts for each other. It's a great release.

Alioop Wed 28-Dec-22 12:58:57

I got clothes from my best friend and they are all far too big, again. I subtly dropped in a conversation after my last year's Christmas and birthday presents were also too big, but she didn't listen by the look of it. She spends a lot of time on her phone when we are out for lunch....
Another friend bought me loads of Bayliss and Harding products, all for the bath. For the last 5 years I've only been able to use Sanex zero products because of problems with my skin which she knows about. Oh and a keyring she also got me for my b'day 4 months ago.
I know I should be grateful, but I don't get the use of any of them so what is the point.

OnwardandUpward Wed 28-Dec-22 13:03:18

Oh no Alioop Do you know what I would do? If your friend is always on her phone, send her a text message saying they are too big and ask for the reciept. That way she might actually get the message. Maybe shes a bit deaf?

Whats the point of being grateful for things you can't use? This is why my husbands siblings stopped doing gifts. I thought it was such a good idea that I suggested it to my siblings and friends (everyone loves it)

hollysteers Wed 28-Dec-22 13:13:09

I love all the foodstuff gifts, chutneys, biscuits, sherry (my tipple now), manuka honey and chocolates. I’m like a squirrel with my little horde which will last and last.
Bemused by a face roller gadget, even though I need the help..
And teachers are always snowed under with candles.
A book of short stories I’m wary about.
Fab gifts on the whole though, I love them.

crazyH Wed 28-Dec-22 13:14:33

I don’t get many presents these days. My friends and I don’t exchange Xmas gifts. My family gets me tickets to shows and vouchers for TKMaxx, which I love. Spent it yesterday or a lovely medium sized pan, a swivel mirror and still have £20 left .
