Did you get many unwanted presents?

Everyone has been very kind and generous but often people misjudge what things you will like.
I keep a box of unused presents that I cannot regift. This year I added shower gel, body scrub, candles, a sewing set and a jigsaw.
Did you get anythings you won't use?

DH always gives weird presents, this years was a Dyson air purifier. To ease my hay fever…… haven’t suffered in years. Last year I had a sheepskin covered hot water bottle……. We live in a 24 hour centrally heated apartment.

We had another cheese board - we already have one which we never use. Think this will go to the charity shop. I also had 3 scarves - 2 which I love and 1 which I’m not so sure about. I have a couple of books which I wouldn’t have chosen for myself, but I’ll happy to give them a go before I take them to the charity shops. Who knows - I might have found another author whose books I love. I do always have gardening gloves from someone but I’m very fussy about gardening gloves and only use the ones that I buy for myself so they’ll be for the charity shop too.

Frogs. My 21 year old GS goes night fishing. I bought him 2 of the hats with lights on, and they are his favourite gift.
I usually get lots of toiletries and perfumes which I end up donating, but received none this year. Too many chocolates, but I will get through them somehow! 😀
I dropped broad hints to someone who became a friend, fairly recently, that we only do family gifts, but she presented me with an ornament of a little girl with a puppy. I often give her a lift, so maybe it was her way of saying Thank You. I'm not really 'into' ornaments, especially twee ones, but it was a kind thought. I'll try to head her off again, next year.
My DD has already given me two bags of unwanted stuff to pass on to charity.

Just taken chocolates and biscuits to the food bank trolley at local supermarket.
Not ungrateful as they were very nice but sure that there are people who need a little treat in these hard times.
Didn’t really do presents this year. All got too much ‘stuff’ and didn’t want to waste money or have others wasting theirs.
Think that it has all got a bit out of hand to be honest.
Happy New Year to all xxx

You have such a way with words Yammy!🤣🤣

It's the truth it's that colour you laughed at in school, sort of pale dirty cream, they usually had sleeves in. Or would be the last to go at a Jumble sale?
I also got a book called"I never knew that about the Lake District". It could have two meanings either I am thick where knowledge is concerned and need to do some homework or I dominate all conversations with my useless facts and a hint to shut up.I wonder which?blush

TBH, most presents I get are unwanted. I don't actally want any more stuff.

I'm the same. I dont need or want anything . . . except some chocolates wink I'll be honest I haven't even opened presents that are wrapped!

MawtheMerrier

People will keep buying me gin! grin
I would not say it's unwanted (as if!) but what does it say about me? D 2 bought me Rhubarb gin for my birthday back in March, D3 a "variety" pack of three small bottles for Mothers Day and D1 bought me a huge bottle plus dried orange slices and tonic for Christmas.
Do I really have that reputation?

Well I expect the ‘more’ you have the ‘merrier’ you’ll be! Enjoy! 🥂

We had a stealing Santa for guests and family (we also gave a few presents between close family that were agreed by both giver and recipient). The rules for stealing Santa included a prize for the worst present and that no gift should cost more than £5, or was something that you already had but really don't want. Totally hilarious and I'm sure many of the worst gifts will be back next year. Apart from that, no surprises and no waste as no unwanted gifts.

Not sure which is worse, gifts people don't want or none at all. I cannot remember the last time I received a gift

If someone has taken time to chose something for me I make sure I use it. Not to would mean that I did not appreciate them taking that time.

Socks. The tops are too tight for swollen ankles. They dig in and leave marks. They will be taken to the charity shop. My DS won the day with his gift to us.

He sent us a huge, red Santa sack, inside of which were multiple wrapped items, none of which had labels to say who they were for. With difficulty we cut, chewed and ripped our way through all the sellotape (he always goes into over kill with it), ripped away the paper and revealed lots of grocery items! There were tins of soup, cakes, biscuits, chocolate, nuts, sweets, tea bags and I can’t remember what else. We ended up playing ‘Guess what’s in this one!’ DH won that game, he guessed more than me, though he did get what he thought was a box of Maltesers wrong. It was biscuits! It took us ages to open them all and they’re still in a shopping bag, waiting for me to get around to putting them all away. When DS face timed, he said that as we are limited for space on a boat, he didn’t want to clutter us up. For us it was the best present he could have sent

Women's Refuges are always grateful for nice toiletries. And toiletries and sweets for children.

I have 2 big boxes of smellies etc from previous years and I will be adding to this. As the year goes on I'll dish some out to my adult grandchildren.

A reed diffuser that has so many warnings on it I will not be using it and certainly not ignite as I was constantly told not to.

One thing I got from a friend was a packet of serviettes??? OK it had a sketched polar bear on the wrapper (and I love polar bears) the accompanying gift was a bauble with a polar bear on it, identical to the one she gave me last year.

Tanjamaltija Thu 29-Dec-22 14:24:49

Of course you can re-gift them... to a Children's Home, a Hospice, or a Charity Shop.

Greyjoy1953 Thu 29-Dec-22 14:10:11

Sorry May should be only …..

Greyjoy1953 Thu 29-Dec-22 14:09:32

No unwanted gifts this year. We all agreed to May buy for the children. Each adult couple bought a pressie for the table on Boxing Day to the value of £20 and what fun and delight this bought. A book about funny Christmas poems which we all had to read one in a different voice. A board game, caused chaos and laughter and of course chocolates.

harold Thu 29-Dec-22 14:08:40

I loved all my presents especially the soil tester from my son.
I also liked the fluffy jumper from an outlet store after I had removed many spots of randomly placed black fluff from the lower front and back and the sleeves . It is now a pleasant jumper of cream, beige and rose pink and importantly fits over the three layers

underneath which I need to wear when the heating is off.

Mouse Thu 29-Dec-22 13:49:03

I loved all my Christmas presents. My AC are very good at choosing. We have spoken about doing presents for kids only but I think that it would make sad to have nothing to open. I’m a kid at heart.

Tennisnan Thu 29-Dec-22 13:20:07

Gagajo / me too not wanting any more "stuff". My adult kids are very wealthy and buy everything they want whenever they want it so I suggested no adult presents this year. One adult son insisted it would be nice to have something to unwrap under the tree then visibly turned his nose up at the shower gel (expensive) that I got for him for the secret Santa. I always get anxious about presents both giving and receiving and this year was no better by secret santa.

A former friend that I've been trying to let drift but she doesn't seem to have noticed yet, we live in the same apartment complex, you'd think she'd have noticed my oozing away but part of me drifting is exactly because of her not Really being awfully interested in me except when she wants help.....
(and breathe)
..... gave me
a scented candle, despite the fact that naked flames are not allowed in the apartments we both live in;
a not unpleasant headscarf, despite the fact that in the nearly 40 years we've known each other, I have never worn a headscarf.

It's not the gifts per se, it's the lack of thought: one of my brothers gave me a pair of candles that are meant to aid sleep, and those I love, though I still can't light them - he doesn't know the house rule but he does know that I don't always sleep well, so it was full of thought.

So sorry about the candles from your brother. I have an idea how you could still enjoy the scent. If you carefully put the candles in a tin foil dish that you can wedge on top of your radiator, they will heat up and fill the room with a lovely smell just like a wax melt might.

What a great idea, thank you!!

Will sleep well tonight!! 🌼

Or buy an electric wax burner? amazon.co.uk%2FWax-Melts-Burner-Electric%2Fs%3Fk%3DWax%2BMelts%2BBurner%2BElectric&usg=AOvVaw2xft8LwjwTl3uG7JIBrZQB]]
