report just published that the help line/action line calls to the BBC have dropped from 1.2 million in year 2021 to 850,000 in year 2022 a drop of 350,000 is this a reflection of how fewer viewers watch the BBC?

Yes Rosie51, I'm having a laugh. 🙄

Eh? Sorry Ma'am, (backing away tugging forelock), didn't mean no offence..............forgot my place under such wisdom and dominance......oh mighty one who is never wrong or even misguided........would you prefer I stop bothering you? (for the record stuff you and my oncologist, I'm going nowhere quietly!)

Wow! I admit I have got Happy Valley being recorded to watch at my leisure, but worth £159, you've got to be having a laugh!
I hardly watch any TV, none at all live. I record very, very few BBC programs. Make it a subscription service or fund it out of general taxation, but I object to a compulsory tax because I record other channels as they're being broadcast live.

For anyone who says the BBC isn't worth the money, I have two words for you.

Happy Valley.

Only Connect and University Challenge, my favourite programmes, are both BBC. I also love Call the Midwife, another BBC winner.

I agree that sport should have its own channel.

Oh dear - I hate the term 'fed up of' - also 'bored of'. In my day it was 'fed up with'!
Radio 4 is my life, I listen to lots of dramas on Sounds. It's hard for the BBC to get it right, but I think they do a pretty good job. I get fed up with dramas about cultures other than my own (white) - they don't resonate with me, even if they are set in this country. I love classic stuff like 'A Far Cry from Kensington' and 'Miss Marple', which makes me sound older than I am, but I find them soothing. But theBBC has a wide range of tastes and interests to consider and I think they do very well considering.

Have you tried Boom Radio? Available on DAB or the internet.
Aimed especially at Baby Boomers 😀

F1Grandma2 Sun 01-Jan-23 20:48:38

Been watching stuff on Netflix, Prime etc. can rarely find anything to watch. If I do find anything I usually watch it on the iPlayer. Far too many sports programmes, and why do they pay so much of our licence fee to so many people to pontificate for so long pre and post sports events (especially football!)?

BBC World Service is brilliant
Selection of podcasts on BBC Sounds is outstanding

BBC is now an unreliable news source. It seems to be controlled from Tufton Street.

Over the last year I have become disillusioned with the decision makers in the BBC organisation. They have removed the dJ's we very much enjoyed on Radio London, despite complaints from long standing listeners. The same has happened with well known DJ's on Radio 2.

I read an article in the Radio Times that seems to ring true. That there is no point in complaining. That the BBC want a younger demographic for radio 2 - ideally 35-45. They are not prepared to change their mind on this! In my opinion younger people don't listen to Radio 2 and they won't despite changes.

So well done BBC you have lost me and many thousands of listener's. I found Simon Mayo on Greatest Hits and enjoy James O'Brien on LBC. We'll follow the DJ's we enjoy.

Are we all getting fed up WITH the BBC!! Not OF.

Pedantic I might be but correct Grammar is not difficult is it?

You'll find some people agree wholeheartedly and some will think you're a pain to criticise a poster. 😂

I see comedy as a healthy critique of the dominant political culture. Comedy works against those in power and changes as politics change.

If for example LP gets into power, there will be plenty of right wing comedians having a go.

No point in attacking the status quo.

Practically every comedy programme on R4 between 6.30-7.00pm is dominated by comedians who more than just left of centre, but so far left they begin to share views with the extreme right.

Can you name any right wing comedians who they could have on to balance things up?

Geoff Norcott, of course. Then there's...erm..no. I'm stuck.

It's a pretty poor show that any comedian has to be right or left. Once upon a time we had comedians who made us laugh year after year but had no political bias at all. Why don't today's batch actually write something funny instead of taking sarcastic digs at people in the news all the time. If they're not doing that they're either swearing or mentioning bodily functions.

Try listening to "The Unbelievable Truth" They give a speech they've written which is made up of lies except for 5 truths they try to get past the other comedians.
Or
Mark Steele's in Town there are loads of these. He visits places and talks about the quirks, advantages and disadvantages of living there with some audience help.
No politics
But I love a bit of left wing comedy- Alexi Sayle's Imaginary Sandwich Bar is great.

Probably- I used to go out of my way to try to connect from here but it isn't worth it anymore . We have better here which is a bit of an indictment because our tv isn't known as being much good.

I spent a week locked in a hotel room in Perth after arriving there from Adelaide
following 2 months in Australia.
This was a total surprise so we hadn’t got many books to read so we had wall to wall TV to keep us occupied.
I can say that compared to what we watched the BBC is absolutely amazing.
Too left for the right… too right for the left.
Too many viewing hours to fill for all channels.
It needs to slim down and get rid of the dross.
Yes, dear readers, I DO, mean football🤦🏼‍♀️

Galaxy Sun 01-Jan-23 17:01:53

On the left evensmile

Galaxy Sun 01-Jan-23 17:01:23

The people who run /present trigonometry are not of the left, I think they still do some comedy.
I dont think that's an example of BBC bias but rather a reflection of comedians in general who tend to be in the left or at least say they are.
The 6.30 slot on R4 tends to be very poor and I love R4.

I complained to the BBC once for Unionist bias. The time a reporter lied on air and I knew he was lying.

They just prevaricated.

I still like watching Strictly though. 🤣

The table to one side of us were complaining about all the lefties taking over the BBC, the party on the other side were moaning about their right wing bias. What we took from that was that the BBC had got it just right.

I can give an example of left wing bias when the BBC were teaching children aged 9-12 that there were 100 different genders.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=wandALGRoqU

Can anyone here give an example of BBC right wing bias?

Surely whether you think the BBC left or right biased in its reporting is mainly down to personal political leanings (confirmation bias) and age group?
Polls have show that older people tend to view the BBC left leaning whereas younger folk, if they are bothered at all, think the opposite.

No-one mentioned reporting. I think the people at the table were apparently discussing the BBC in general. I am asking for an example of BBC right wing bias. That could be in any programme.

Nah.

It'll never catch up with the Farage stuff. You know the guy who has never won an election but thinks he speaks for the people? Remember him?

So you're saying Farage was on more times than all the left leaning politicians and panellists over an 8 year period? As there were probably at least 2 lefties on every week I find that hard to believe. It needs confirmation otherwise the number of times Farage was on doesn't prove the BBC are right wing.
