report just published that the help line/action line calls to the BBC have dropped from 1.2 million in year 2021 to 850,000 in year 2022 a drop of 350,000 is this a reflection of how fewer viewers watch the BBC?

I like a lot of the Drama and documentaries, choose which things appeal. Good value for the licence fee.

At least BBC programmes and films aren’t ruined by constant adverts!

The point they're making is that the BBC is biased as evidenced in some of their programmes.

The point is that they think BLM is extremist, support Kemi Badenoch, think diversity training is a waste of time and money and thought Truss made a good Foreign Secretary.

They are not a trustworthy research organisation.

The campaign for common sense is the antithesis of the liberal agenda, so it follows that they would assume the BBC favours a left wing agenda. That’s not what YouGov polls suggest.

I have heard a BLM activist called Imarn Ayton who is most definitely an extremist!

They are not a trustworthy research organisation
If they can evidence their findings then that will support their claims.

More reasons to like the BBC.

My Old School, was on tonight at 9pm. True story, you will not believe it. 😜

I started watching it but had other things to do so I’m going to watch it on catchup. I did Google it. It looks fascinating.

It starts out being unbelievable, but by the end its just completely bizarre... it's worth sticking with, definitely. Weirdest story ever.

Chestnut thanks for enlightening me about the report from the Campaignforcommonsense which provoked the accusation of wokery at the BBC.

Is Mark Lehain, who started this organisation the one who is now Head of Education at the Centre for Policy Studies I wonder?

“Commonsense” is a tricky word, and it’s not neutral but surely depends on one’s preformed ideas and world view.

We rarely watch BBC, We have avoided the BBC news for a long time. I record anything i do want to watch so I can zip through the adverts. Husband only watches darts, the odd bit of horse racing and anything Lucy Worsley does😊

The Today radio programme Christmas week was excellent, temporarily ditching impartiality, with some interesting guest editors.
One of the guests, Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe carried out a memorable, and emotional interview with Andy Murray.

Of course the BBC makes mistakes (as all the media do) and we find it annoying from time to time to be presented with facts and opinions we don't like but I would rather have that than the biased reporting by the Daily Mail and other newspapers (and the Guardian is not exempt from blame) and the attempts by the government of the day (that means both Tories and Labour) to frighten the BBC into being more malleable. A famous media entrepreneur said that it was the BBC which kept the rest of the broadcasters honest and I think he was right. One thing some folk can't understand is that the BBC has a duty of balance in presenting political and other opinions but that does not mean they have to be given equal time: it is noticeable that the BBC has stopped giving much space to climate change deniers - their arguments are so poor that they do not warrant being given equal time.

It is in the interest of other broadcasters like the Murdoch media empire to try and manipulate us into giving up on the BBC.

I do not watch enough tv to offer an opinion, but I am a Radio 3 & 4 listener and I find them excellent. I have recently moved to R3 from Classic FM and the music is so much better and the resneters so much better informed.

so have I moved from classic FM MOnica I really like the morning Radio 3 now, it involves the audience, plays stuff for longer, choices are broad and interesting - it makes an effort to juxtapose themes, you are right about the presenters, and no ads.

....and well said there too. Thank you above for the you gov survey. I do trust the I Player "reality check", it has been most informative.

I've just watched "Only Connect" and now Mortimer and Whitehouse are fishing I really can't imagine that any commercial channel would view either of them as worth producing. And I love BBC sounds, so many things to listen to. Dead Ringers Christmas edition is brilliant.

Farzanah Sat 31-Dec-22 20:34:09

And as was said on Pick of the Year this evening, The BBC isn’t trying to sell you anything.

Only Connect is usually brilliant (haven't seen tonight's) but last night, if you answered North or South to any of the questions, you were bound to get most of them right! 🧭🧭🧭

MayBee70 Sun 01-Jan-23 09:50:57

I’m overjoyed if I only get remotely close to answering a question on Only Connect! I found the questions on the Christmas University Challenge difficult this year. The Christmas one is usually much easier than the usual one.

I gave up my license a few months ago as i could not justify the fee for the amount of live tv that i watched. i have a firestick to stream what i want to watch and also use netflix

Greyduster I have to agree. I cringed when watching it hoping it would improve. No wonder Scotland lost 1000 officers in 10 months if that is a portrayal of life in Police Scotland.

bevisp1 Sun 01-Jan-23 11:13:47

No not at all. Between this & other channels there’s plenty to watch. I wonder if the viewing ratings are much lower because of all the other streaming channels, ie 5 of our adult children all rely on Netflix, Disney+, apple, Brit box, Amazon etc.

I listen to radio 3 and 4 every day, watch quite a bit on BBC1 and 4. Still think the BBC are more reliable than the rest of them. Only watch news possibly twice a day because they are all dire and full of gloom and depressing. Never worth listening to any politician answering questions from a presenter as they are all trained in not answering directly and trying to shove their party politics and score points instead of addressing the problem. I would throw something at the tv if I watched much of that. Better things to do with my time! The backroom boys are trying to do the same as they are craftily trying to privatise much of the NHS, cutting off bits and pieces until it becomes unviable. I have listened to BBC worldwide when I lived abroad and it is still trusted to give the real news about a situation by people all over the world. Have been in conflict areas where people have said to me that they did not trust their own radio news and waited to hear the BBC news as it could be trusted. Lets get it back to giving a good service as it used to.

I only turn the ‘tele’ on at 6 for news…and as soon as I see a ‘celebrity’ I switch off!!
I watch Netflix mostly and only use i-player as a catch up! Tv is pretty much rubbish now .
