report just published that the help line/action line calls to the BBC have dropped from 1.2 million in year 2021 to 850,000 in year 2022 a drop of 350,000 is this a reflection of how fewer viewers watch the BBC?

I love the BBC and rarely watch or listen to anything else. iPlayer is excellent and everything I watch I access via that route. Radio 4 is without parallel. The BBC has a worldwide audience as a trusted source of news, which is particularly important in countries where their own media cannot be trusted. I am sure that contributes to the UK punching above its weight in world affairs.

Nah.

It'll never catch up with the Farage stuff. You know the guy who has never won an election but thinks he speaks for the people? Remember him?

^Can anyone here give an example of BBC right wing bias?^

Farage had been on Question Time 33 times by 2018.

Ukip appeared on almost a quarter of the Question Time programmes in the years 2010 to 2017 - despite never having more than two MPs.

So what about all the left leaning panellists who have been on 2010-2017. Maybe you can balance the figures? Although they probably lost count.

I read it afterwards.

I'm guessing the work was a wee bit more than £7m on a few boxes which the guests could have "drawn themselves"

Chestnut Sun 01-Jan-23 16:19:22

So apparently some people don't want to read about the BBC wasting £7m on a new logo PattyFingers. Maybe they think that's okay. Thank you for posting it.

Being housebound and more or less chair bound I watch a lot of TV. I cannot stand sex and violence which there seems to be a lot of nowadays on all channels. Also there are too many cookery and sport programmes. Channel 4 news 7 pm is better than BBC. I like films. Have been a film fan since I was three (silent movies then). I have DVDs of all the old Cary Grant films, Hitchcock films.
The old BBC serials. The Pallisters, Bleak House, wives and Daughters. Etc. Remakes of things Rebecca for instance do not follow the book and are sexed up.
BBC 4 used to have serious archeological programmes etc but now the old comedy shows. One foot in the Grave etc.
I suppose they cannot please everyone and a lot of people don’t watch TV anyway.

A quote from a GB News guest in the Daily Express?

No, surprisingly, I haven't read it.

Has no-one read this??

BBC blasted for ‘failing to read the room’ after £7m logo rebrand by furious GB News guest
The BBC has been heavily criticised for its £7 million logo rebrand which comes at a time the corporation is forcing over-75s to pay its licence fee and closing regional news outlets to save money.

I have always been a big BBC fan but really their Xmas TV was pretty poor. The BBC as we knew it has gone for ever I think.

I absolutely agree with this. Even their news coverage isn't our first choice now. They seem to produce elaborate historical productions at great expense, but really nothing we want to watch. And even 4Extra has been rubbish over Christmas, loads of old programmes from poor comedians whom we didn't like the first time round, with everything repeated twice more that day and a bonus repeat at the weekend.
Like many people I simply don't think that they're not worth the licence fee.

^The table to one side of us were complaining about all the lefties taking over the BBC, the party on the other side were moaning about their right wing bias. What we took from that was that the BBC had got it just right.^

I can give an example of left wing bias when the BBC were teaching children aged 9-12 that there were 100 different genders.

Can anyone here give an example of BBC right wing bias?

Surely whether you think the BBC left or right biased in its reporting is mainly down to personal political leanings (confirmation bias) and age group?
Polls have show that older people tend to view the BBC left leaning whereas younger folk, if they are bothered at all, think the opposite.

I wonder if all the people complaining about "wokery" just haven't noticed that the world has moved on and it's them that are living in the past?

Nannan2 Sun 01-Jan-23 15:37:45

Maybe they need to put bbc sport on separate channel?- and same with news and others and cancel licence fee.Id rather pay for just dramas & comedies and eastenderscould go on iplayer.

Franbern Sun 01-Jan-23 15:35:10

timetogo2016

I am getting fed up with wokery on the BBC.

What on earth does this mean? What is wokery? To me it interprates as being something to do with being aware of and caring about the feelings of other people.

Back on OP subject - I am so greatful to the advert. free BBC programmes. So much choice. Yes, a lot of the films etc shown at Christmas I have seen as I now have quite a lot of christmas's past under my belt. But probably pretty new to a lot of people. Still enough new for me to enjoy - and I tend to use my Humax to record what I want to watch and then watch it when it suits me.

The world would not be such a good place without the BBC

Nannan2 Sun 01-Jan-23 15:23:46

In fact didnt they even end silent witness then bring it back again?

Nannan2 Sun 01-Jan-23 15:22:23

But it used to be so great- thats why it was envied- there used to be such good well made stuff, particularly comedies- likely lads- porridge- fools & horses- outnumbered- Gavin & Stacey-and more-but this xmas week we only had a ghosts special- rest were all repeats if any and a below par mrs Browns boys which has gone downhill since it began. There used to be good dramas (now we have only call the midwife and silent witness- which must both be nearly limping to a final end?) We have only eastenders for a good soap but its not as brilliant as it was years ago..Its like the beeb have run out of ideas.

It was ok on BBC1 for christmas day with call the midwife, ghosts special- and the eastenders christmas storyline was exceptionally good. One or 2 other programmes here or there over the festive week (enjoy 2doors down from bbc scotland) but really to say the cost of licence its a rip off really. Used to be that bbc was THE place to be at christmas season for all sorts of viewing.Sadly thats gone i think..And Radio Times used to be the (only 1 at first) main tv guide especially xmas time.I saw price this year (£5.25) and bought a much cheaper £1.50 one instead!

I must be one of the few people who can’t find anything I’d like to watch on Netflix. I’ve tried Netflix several times but always end up cancelling my membership.

nipsmum Sun 01-Jan-23 15:05:42

Thank you Gulmil but that is only one programme , one night a week and on for 12 weeks of each year. Does that mean we have to put up with repeats forever the rest of the year.

nipsmum Sun 01-Jan-23 15:02:37

There are just so many Antique programmes I can watch. Food programmes too are overdone and get repeated endlessly. The Repair shop is great but can't go on forever. Daytime TV is so repetitive. I am retired and thank goodness for programmes and films I can stream now when I am not able to go out and am not up and about as much as I used to be.

chris8888 Sun 01-Jan-23 14:55:50

I watch it but not more than other channel and I like to have a choice. The BBC should be a monthly subscription like everything else so you have a choice in paying or not.

Many millions tuned in week after week to watch Strictly come dancing. There’s something for most people the BBC .

Nvella Sun 01-Jan-23 14:25:33

The whole world envies us the BBC and most friends I have who live abroad -especially in the US and Canada - only watch BBC box sets as their own TV (apart from very expensive streaming channels) is so awful. I love the BBC (obviously it gets some things wrong and can’t please everyone all the time) but I still think it makes a lot of superb programmes. I would happily pay 5 x the licence fee for it.

Maggiemaybe Sun 01-Jan-23 14:17:15

I’m still a big fan. We have Prime and access to Netflix, but have only watched one thing on each (Joker and The Crown respectively). Oh, and that Harry and Meghan thing just so that I knew what people were on about. grin

Adverts, apart from the Christmas ones, do my head in - with the Beeb I don’t need to record in advance so I can skip through them. When I think of series I’ve enjoyed and those I’m looking forward to, nearly all of them are from the BBC. I’ll have my feet up tonight in front of Call the Midwife and Happy Valley - can’t wait!

As for bias, we once sat having our breakfast in a hotel dining room. The table to one side of us were complaining about all the lefties taking over the BBC, the party on the other side were moaning about their right wing bias. What we took from that was that the BBC had got it just right.
