report just published that the help line/action line calls to the BBC have dropped from 1.2 million in year 2021 to 850,000 in year 2022 a drop of 350,000 is this a reflection of how fewer viewers watch the BBC?

I see comedy as a healthy critique of the dominant political culture. Comedy works against those in power and changes as politics change.

If for example LP gets into power, there will be plenty of right wing comedians having a go.

No point in attacking the status quo.

You'll find some people agree wholeheartedly and some will think you're a pain to criticise a poster. 😂

Over the last year I have become disillusioned with the decision makers in the BBC organisation. They have removed the dJ's we very much enjoyed on Radio London, despite complaints from long standing listeners. The same has happened with well known DJ's on Radio 2.

I read an article in the Radio Times that seems to ring true. That there is no point in complaining. That the BBC want a younger demographic for radio 2 - ideally 35-45. They are not prepared to change their mind on this! In my opinion younger people don't listen to Radio 2 and they won't despite changes.

So well done BBC you have lost me and many thousands of listener's. I found Simon Mayo on Greatest Hits and enjoy James O'Brien on LBC. We'll follow the DJ's we enjoy.

BBC is now an unreliable news source. It seems to be controlled from Tufton Street.

You are welcome Chestnut

BBC World Service is brilliant
Selection of podcasts on BBC Sounds is outstanding

Been watching stuff on Netflix, Prime etc. can rarely find anything to watch. If I do find anything I usually watch it on the iPlayer. Far too many sports programmes, and why do they pay so much of our licence fee to so many people to pontificate for so long pre and post sports events (especially football!)?

F1Grandma2 Sun 01-Jan-23 20:51:33

Have you tried Boom Radio? Available on DAB or the internet.
Aimed especially at Baby Boomers 😀

Oh dear - I hate the term 'fed up of' - also 'bored of'. In my day it was 'fed up with'!
Radio 4 is my life, I listen to lots of dramas on Sounds. It's hard for the BBC to get it right, but I think they do a pretty good job. I get fed up with dramas about cultures other than my own (white) - they don't resonate with me, even if they are set in this country. I love classic stuff like 'A Far Cry from Kensington' and 'Miss Marple', which makes me sound older than I am, but I find them soothing. But theBBC has a wide range of tastes and interests to consider and I think they do very well considering.

Only Connect and University Challenge, my favourite programmes, are both BBC. I also love Call the Midwife, another BBC winner.

I agree that sport should have its own channel.

For anyone who says the BBC isn't worth the money, I have two words for you.

Happy Valley.

Rosie51 Sun 01-Jan-23 23:43:14

Wow! I admit I have got Happy Valley being recorded to watch at my leisure, but worth £159, you've got to be having a laugh!
I hardly watch any TV, none at all live. I record very, very few BBC programs. Make it a subscription service or fund it out of general taxation, but I object to a compulsory tax because I record other channels as they're being broadcast live.

volver Sun 01-Jan-23 23:48:17

Yes Rosie51, I'm having a laugh. 🙄

Eh? Sorry Ma'am, (backing away tugging forelock), didn't mean no offence..............forgot my place under such wisdom and dominance......oh mighty one who is never wrong or even misguided........would you prefer I stop bothering you? (for the record stuff you and my oncologist, I'm going nowhere quietly!)

volver Mon 02-Jan-23 00:08:17

You a bit...er....overexcited tonight?

Rosie51 Mon 02-Jan-23 00:11:03

Nah, are you?

Gabrielle56 Mon 02-Jan-23 09:00:02

Appt valley was good and I hope they've not done the usual with a good runner-run it tomdearh!! I'll watch it as I did rest but I hardly think it's the be all and end all of BBC drama series, really?
BBC does lots of stuff arts drama series like downtown abhor, and the attenburgh 'lets save the planet by staying at home but I can go wherever I like at YOUR expense ' series.all very interesting but hang on. Nat Geo and many others do educational and amazing stuff as well. I don't need an over indulged overpriviledged upper class twerp to speak down to me and give lions names like "Maisie" !?!? Been has gone so far off piste trying to be like other streaming services and I too object to risk having an actual criminal record should I get done for not coughing up more than I pay for sky and netflix together for a channel I use for the odd series and news!!

Gabrielle56 Mon 02-Jan-23 09:01:42

* my last post not edited in error and has so many typos! When oh when are we gonna get modern with editing and deleting facilities?!?!?

Exactamondo! Linekers salary is HOW MUCH?!?! What exactly does he do? Jabbers on about his old profession with a few chums in studio , gets jollies to far flung places to do same! The salaries list is breathtakingly disgusting! And some of their staff have the cheek to talk of striking workers is disparaging ways, oh that they do a proper job for a pittance? A monstrous dinosaur of another era, force it to go subs funding and scrap compulsory daylight robbery to pay Thier lavish lifestyles, families like the dimblebys have funded their entire public school mansion housed existence via BBC licence fees, bit like the old serfdom system.........

Luckygirl3 Mon 02-Jan-23 09:36:03

We are very lucky indeed to have the BBC.

fifeywifey Mon 02-Jan-23 12:07:24

As long as the BBC continue to air great dramas such as Mayflies, Silent Witness, Happy Valley and Shetland then I'll not be bored with their output.

Chestnut Mon 02-Jan-23 12:11:33

It works out at £3.06 per week which is reasonable considering the number of TV and radio channels. But only if you watch or listen to them.

MayBee70 Mon 02-Jan-23 17:32:12

I’d forgotten the wonderful adaptation of Les Miserables from a few years ago. Every time I think the BBC can’t top a drama they come up with another one. I haven’t started on Marie Antoinette yet. Was Versailles BBC too?

Grantanow Mon 02-Jan-23 17:47:24

One point that comes to mind when I read posts from those who 'hate' the BBC or dislike it's programmes is that we should never, ever let the BBC's (or any other broadcaster's) programming be driven by complaints otherwise the Mrs Whitehouse's of this world would control what we watch and we would probably never have had programmes like That Was The Week That Was. The perception that all comedians are Left wing may arise because they have a Tory government to be the butt of their humour. I'm sure when Labour come to power there will be enough gaffs and stuffed shirts to keep the comedians busy for years.
