Good Morning Everyone,
Its dark and wet here in brackley this morning .
Today a small local shop later , but this year has been very hard for me as to the amount of appointments at various hospitals in the area mainly Oxford.
I only hope 2023 sees fewer visits .
Take Care,
Mick

Hi, here in New Zealand we are a little away from two hours until midnight. My two youngest grandsons are peacefully tucked up in bed having a sleepover with me, but they both wished me goodnight and "See you next year".

Marydoll couldn’t just read your post without commenting, I really hope 2023 is a better year for you. Enjoy lunch with your family today, especially Dollie who sounds like such a lovely little girl. Take care 💐

Just getting light here in the Southside and I'm contemplating an hour of exercise in a minute. I optimistically hope that it will be more acceptable than yesterday. The rain was torrential.
Marydoll it seems so unfair that you are somewhat compromised although I know and sincerely hope that you are still fighting it.
I wish you all a happy, but more important, healthy New Year from this lurker who appreciates all your daily news.

Good morning from dark and flooded S Lanarkshire. Our town is okay but many roads to surrounding areas were totally cut off yesterday.

I hope you have an easier start to 2023 than you have had recently Mick, you sound uncharacteristically down this morning.

After a very busy pre and Christmas time, I have had a quiet week. With perfect timing my heating system is playing up and I’ve had to switch it on manually in the morning, so I’ve been dashing down to do that and then retreating back to bed while the house warms up. As a result I’ve been falling asleep again and my whole routine has gone to pot!

Quiet day today and maybe tomorrow too. I’m supposed to be going to DD2 and family for New Year’s Day lunch but the forecast is talking about perhaps snow again so I have laid in supplies just in case! I just can’t face driving in tricky conditions any more.

I hope you and your husband are starting to feel better baubles, this awful coughing virus is really affecting people very badly.

Wishing everyone a peaceful day and most definitely a better year to come 🦩🦩🦩

Good morning all and it’s another wet and windy day here in Essex.
Well the washing machine repair man came , on time but after a minute or two said ‘it won’t be fixed today, part has to be ordered’ 😤. It’s already been a week and now I have to wait another 10 days. Dd and DIL will do some essentials for us. 🩲🩲.

DS1 is coming round at 10 to put decs up in the loft. I’ve taken most of them down already . It’s looking bare!

We might have a takeaway this evening and raise a glass at midnight , hoping for a better year ahead. We are usually at our cottage by the sea, with friends staying over for a couple of days, but this year we need to be at home for DD , and a couple of our friends are now very disabled with Parkinson’s and hip replacements. We’ll leave it til the spring.

Wishing and hoping for a good New Year for us all. 🙏

Good morning all from soggy South Lanarkshire.

We’re still decidedly under par but poor DD has proper flu so her annual Hogmanay party for her friends and their families has had to be scrapped.

She was also planning to have us all go to her house for our New Year’s Day dinner and is upset at having to cancel.

In years gone by the party used to be in our house, even the year I was expecting DD whose due date was Hogmanay although she didn’t appear till a week later.

We have steak pies ordered at the butcher's so DH will take one over to her and keep one for us and DS’s gang who hopefully will come to us tomorrow.

Today I’ll give the house a clean then relax with a film and some crochet.

We’ll watch some tv this evening and bring in the New Year together with a toast to absent loved ones.

A guid New Year tae ane an a’
An mony may ye see!

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a very wet, gloomy South Yorkshire. Chin up, Mick; all we can do is put our best foot forward in 2023.
DD came over and cleaned my house yesterday, did all my laundry and took it home to put in her dryer. Son in law did some jobs for me and a grocery shop. He’s a lovely man - a terrible deadpan tease, he makes me laugh. DD just rolls her eyes a lot!
Today I have some paperwork to sort out prior to talking to HMRC next week about why my tax code keeps going up when my income isn’t! That and some photo sorting should keep me out of mischief today. I will not be up to see the New Year in but I hope it will be a better year than this for all of us.
Have the best day you can, folks.

A wet and windy start here in rural Oxfordshire. A lovely day yesterday; a long dog walk and a relaxing afternoon in front of the fire, and surprise surprise, my main Xmas present from DH was delivered at last. He quickly wrapped it and I was delighted to find a very expensive bag, which was meant for dog walking, but too good for that! DH has really spoilt me this year, I'm very lucky. Today I am going to visit my sister with DD1 and GC.
No NY celebrating for us, I've never liked it, but I will reflect on this year which thankfully has ended better than it started.
I wish you all a good day with lots to make you smile.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 31-Dec-22 08:25:45

Morning all

It’s grey, windy and has been raining mist of the night, no doubt it will be raining again very soon here in S E Essex.

No plans for today, DH will cook this evening, I doubt we will make midnight but who knows 🤣🤣🤣

Wishing all dear morning friends a Happy, Healthy and Wealthy 2923 🙋‍♀️🦩😘

No Matt.

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where Alexa tells me it’s currently 8°C. We did have torrential rain during the night. I had a rubbish sleep for no good reason. Tossing and turning. No matter, fortunately we have no plans really for today - apart from going over to spend an hour or two with my stepfather and enjoy some more of the smooth malt he opened on Christmas Eve! He is joining all the family tomorrow afternoon as we plan to eat together again but I don’t like to think of him on his own on NYE.

I’m thinking of making Hungarian goulash a lá Delia and leaving it on a peep in the oven for when we come home. I love the tomatoes & paprika combo but won’t bother getting sour cream from the larder downstairs as I’m the only person who likes it!

Enjoy Saturday all who can and for any revellers amongst us, have a great time but go carefully. ‘See you all next year!’.
😁

Good morning all from Glasgow, where we have snow flurries.

For the last forty years, apart from lockdown, we have celebrated Hogmanay with our friends across the road, with the teenagers celebrating in another house, The celebrations were legendary. They have been scaled down over the years, till there are usually only ten of us.
Tonight I won't even be staying up for the Bells. I'm neither up to, nor up for it. DH feels the same.

I plan to go to DD's family lunch today. This is my first day out of the house in a week, but all my children, their spouses and of course, wee Dollie will be there, so I'm looking forward to it. I plan to stay a couple of hours, then leave them too it.
This is DD's first foray into hosting the whole family, her previous home was too small.
I suspect she has bought enough food for the whole village!

Lying in bed, with plenty of time to think this week has left me feeling very sorrow for myself.. Non forthcoming hospital appts, a thirteen month wait for respiratory, six months for cardiology (two referrals), no progress from gastro and constantly battling for medication, have led me to accept that the NHS has written me off.
I am determined to prove them wrong!!!!

Yesterday, I had a conversation with yet another obstructive receptionist. Ordering my repeats, I noticed some were missing from the list. Apparently, they are now acutes and I need to request separately (after five years of being on them!!)
She insisted that I could type a special request on the repeats page, I insisted that facility wasn't available, unless you ordered another drug first. Trying to prove me wrong, she opened another patient's page, where they had requested a changed in pharmacy. Not the same thing.
As my frustration levels rose, I went into clipped teacher mode and spoke using bullet points. Eventually, the penny dropped: Oh you will need to phone, every time you need them. said she. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
I must be in the worst practice in Scotland.

Some of you have had serious and traumatic health issues, lost partners and worried about family members this year.
I hope the coming year is a much better one for you all.

My heartfelt thanks for those on this thread, who have shown kindness to me and those who lurked and have propped me up by PMs over the year. It has helped enormously to keep help me going.
A special mention to the Glesca Grannies, whose company I have enjoyed so much!!

Wishing you a pleasant day, folks.

dragonfly46 Sat 31-Dec-22 08:11:26

Good morning from a windy wet Leicestershire.

We had a lovely time in Brighton with our DS, DiL and GC.
Now I have to nip to Sainsbury for food for the weekend then bed down in this awful weather.

We shall be in bed early as I am not a fan of NYE.

Susan56 Sat 31-Dec-22 08:10:54

Good morning from Shropshire.

The children stayed overnight.I can just hear signs of them waking up.DD will collect them later.

We are planning a quiet evening with a buffet of the party food that wasn’t used over Christmas after DD2 and family couldn’t come as B was so ill. What a difference a week makes.

Have a good day everyone and wishing you all a happy and healthy 2023🍾🥂

NanKate Sat 31-Dec-22 08:10:12

Good morning Mick and All.

We have a wet day in prospect here in South Bucks.

We aren’t Revellers either at New Year. A Prosecco for me and perhaps DH who doesn’t drink much alcohol. A paella from M and S and creamy meringues for tonight’s supper plus watching the Detectorists.

Glad to hear you are back in circulation Kitty I’m hoping to be back in your neck of the woods in 2023 for a much awaited catch-up. 👍

Hope you have a better 2023 Mick and Thank You for keeping this Good Morning thread up and running.

brook2704 Sat 31-Dec-22 08:08:41

Good morning everyone from a cold and frosty Inverness, it looks a bit windy as I can see the trees blowing out of the bedroom window
Yesterday we enjoyed a day looking after the DGC, we played lots of games and DH took DGS out for a kick around with his football. I couldn’t tempt DGD outside at all, she much preferred the warmth inside and playing her favourite games of pretend shop and cafe. Needless to say I had to buy lots of things and order lots in the cafe!
I’ve a much quieter day planned today, DH is going into work so whilst he’s there I might pop into town to see if there’s any bargains in the sales
Funchal sounds lovely Shazza, I’d love to visit there one day. Enjoy the celebrations this evening
Wishing everyone a peaceful and happy 2023, take care all 💐

Whitewavemark2 Sat 31-Dec-22 08:08:26

Oh yes! Grayson Perry. What a lovely man.

He posted a picture of himself in a suit of armour😄😄😄

I’d love to see him turn up in that to receive his knighthood.

Gala Sat 31-Dec-22 08:08:22

Good morning from a still dark & very wet Sefton.
No plans for today apart from a bit of food shopping but off to the theatre tonight. Have an enjoyable evening those of you with NYE plans. Let's hope for a better 2023.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 31-Dec-22 08:06:38

A very good morning from a wild and windy South Downs. Yesterday got very wet on our morning constitutional, and no doubt, today will be the same.

Today will be spent preparing the evening meal for sister and husband. Just got to nip to Sainsbury for a couple of bits.

Well, a Happy And Very Healthy New Year to everyone.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 31-Dec-22 07:57:32

Morning all from a windy West Oxfordshire. I still have bits and pieces of tidying up to do and quite a bit of laundry. OH and I will stay in this evening - our wild partying days are over! Chicken curry is on the menu for our NYE dinner and maybe ice cream. I was pleased to see that Grayson Perry has been awarded a knighthood. He is one of my favourites. When he received his MBE (?) he went to the Palace in an Italian mother of the bride outfit. I wonder what he’ll wear this time? This morning I had a Microsoft security alert text and two emails saying there has been unusual activity in my account. I never know these days if these are real or phishing! I have left it for the moment.

harrigran Sat 31-Dec-22 07:56:13

Good morning from a dark and damp NE.
Sister and BIL will visit this afternoon and DD and SIL will come for dinner and stay over.
Not sure we will be watching Jools Holland as DD was at the actual concert when she had a weekend in London.
For those celebrating, enjoy and those who aren't I wish you a peaceful new year.

Grandmadinosaur Sat 31-Dec-22 07:52:59

Good morning all from a very wet East Yorkshire. Just been woken up by the bin lorry coming down the road.
Thank you for Birthday wishes for GS yesterday. He had a lovely day and a meal out with us all last night.

Today we need to do a small top up shop. Then I’m going to the panto with GS late afternoon. After going for the first time last year he knows what to expect and is looking forward to it. Me too. Oh yes I am ….

Then home and we are joining DS and DIL for cocktails in the bar in there garden. I don’t think we will make it to midnight but we will see.

Funchal will be buzzing tonight Shazza have a fabulous evening. Jealous of those temperatures.

Have a good day everyone and a safe evening whatever your plans are.

Pittcity Sat 31-Dec-22 07:48:54

Good morning from a dark, wet and windy but mild Colchester. Yesterday I only ventured out as far as the bins.
I'd like to go for a walk today. We have no NYE plans and will probably be asleep by midnight.
Love to all 🦩 x

Sar53 Sat 31-Dec-22 07:47:23

Good morning from a wet and windy Essex by the sea.
No plans today. DH is unwell and spent most of yesterday in bed. He is not a good patient and I tend to leave him to get on with it, he prefers to be left alone.
Let us all hope that 2023 is a better year all round xx

Kalu Sat 31-Dec-22 07:35:52

Good morning all from Glasgow. No rain so far and very quiet outside.

No Hogmanay celebrations for us this year. We leave the partying and eightsome reels to mainly younger family members now who will meet up at the usual venue. Us oldies just can’t keep up anymore. We will still be awake for the bells and toast each other a guid new year.
A toast I extend to all on our morning catch up here.
Slainte Mhath 🥂

I plan to finish off some crafting today, other than that, whatever the day brings.

Best wishes to all for a good day especially those to whom this time of year is difficult. ❤️

ginny Sat 31-Dec-22 07:35:12

Good morning everyone. It is still wet and windy.
Some food shopping to do and the rest of the prep for dinner with friends this evening.
Our Son in Law is recovering but youngest DGS now has Chickenpox. Hopefully it will be mild like his brother.
I hope your News Years Eve is just the way you wish it to be and the year continues in te same way.
