Silk pillowcases

I have one and find it really comfortable to sleep on, particularly in Summer. In fact I take it with me when we go away (then worry about leaving it behind!). It sometimes looks a bit disreputable if I use dry shampoo with a hint of colour, but it washes well at my usual 30 degrees.

Whether it actually makes a difference to my hair and skin’s up for debate, but I like to think it does!

Real silk is good but not cheap . One of my regrets in life is when I visited a silk factory in China with all the silkworms I didn’t buy a doona and covers because they were half the price there. I won’t ever go there again, too much travelling.

I bought in China from the factory, the whole works and threw it all away😬

Watching this thread as I’ve been seriously thinking of buying some , mainly because my hair ends up in a dry scrunched up mess every morning. Be interesting to know if they really work as good as they state they do .

They did not work as they say in my case. Hair still ends up in a scrunched up mess but that may be because I toss and turn all night. Might work if you stay in the same position all night.

😂 Maybe I best invest in a straight jacket instead, lol 😂

I invested and I'm very happy.
I love the coolness of the Silk, I get so hot in bed, no creases on my face and I find my hair is OK.
I have been using them a couple of years now, they stay put no dissappearing off the side of the bed, they wash fine as well.

The idea of boiling all those little silkworms in their cocoons to make me a pillowcase is rather off putting. I’ll pass.

Real silk doesn't fall off the bed, it has a subtle sheen. It's not slippery at all, but satin is shiny and slippery.

100% Mulberry silk is created from silk worms (natural) and satin is 100% polyester (synthetic), so quite a different product with different properties. Don't get scammed into buying fake silk (satin)

I was sceptic about that claim but they really work for me.
I have straight hair, I don’t know how they’d work on curly hair.

Not in my experience.
I still looked like a scarecrow.
I was given one but IMO they are not worth the cost.

I’ll stick with my high thread count cotton bedding I think. It’s lovely.

I have got a genuine silk one. It was nice in the summer, but when the weather got colder it felt cold to the touch. I will probably use it again when the weather gets warmer. I also have some silk hair scrunchies, which are a nice gift as they protect the hair, supposedly, as do the silk pillowcases help you avoid that scrunched up look in the morning.

You have to make sure that they are 100% Mulberry silk because most of what is sold as "silk" is actually satin, which is very slippery. You do get what you pay for. Also I've noticed this with "leather" goods from China. They are usually what I what call "Pleather" or actually synthetic leather.

I was thinking of buying a pair as part of my daughter’s Christmas, but tbh, was put off by the prices of the genuine silk ones. I’ve also read that bamboo pillow cases are equally as good/bad as the silk, due to environmental concerns over their production. Plus, re. my daughter, she has two cats both of whom go on her bed and would almost certainly damage the silk.

I bought some along with a silk duvet, and silk sheets when I was in China.

I didn’t like them. They slip off the bed, though they might have been better on cotton sheets, I suppose.

It all slips off the bed. You spend half the night fishing around on the floor for bedding.

If you’ve got any little patch of dry skin it will catch on the silk - not to mention the odd bristly hair that appears overnight. Definitely don’t buy them if there’s a man involved in the bed. His stubble will catch on them all night.

Also they stain dreadfully with any hint of grease or product on your hair.

I don’t know about the creases on your face. I didn’t stick with them long enough o make a difference☹️

We have a few. I quite like them, though they do seem more static prone than expected

I bought a pair as they are supposed to mean you wake up without any creases in your face, and good for your hair. To be honest I couldn't see any difference, perhaps I am beyond repair!

No, following with interest as I’d like to know the benefits, drawbacks and how well they wash and wear.
