Happy new year and good morning from a calm s somerset. The ground is wet but the air is thankfully dry

Nothing much to do today and thankfully back into normality, perhaps a bit of tidying here and there. I do have a big beautiful kipper to look forward to for lunch today, that and buttered brown bread. I bought the kipper on an extravagant whim and glad I did

DD and SIL stayed with me and we watched Sam Ryder on TV, watched the London fireworks and enjoyed a bottle of champagne.
I slept badly and have a busy day ahead, rest of family are coming this afternoon and we will be having dinner together but we hope to watch the concert from Vienna before I need to work in the kitchen.

Had a nice day yesterday at the panto then cocktails at DSs. We did make it to midnight and there were a lot of fireworks going off. We stepped out of the door to leave and a some went off making me jump out of my skin!

We are back there for lunch today.

We stayed up to watch the fireworks last night and have slept in this morning.
DH has been unwell but seems to be on the mend apart from a chesty cough.
Some very sad news yesterday, my youngest daughter's MIL died in the early hours of the morning. She had cancer and had refused any treatment. A lovely lady, we share the same name. RIP.

Good morning and welcome to 2023 from a mild, dry Colchester.
DH retired to bed early full of cold so I sat up to watch the New year in on TV. There were lots of fireworks in the neighborhood but DH didn't stir. I had a bad night because of his snoring and expect I have caught the cold.
Our only plan is to cook a roast beef dinner tonight. DS and his GF will try to steer clear of our germs.

Just dog walking and tidying for me today, it has at last stopped raining here in Oxfordshire, its been a very wet and windy few days. I visited my sister yesterday and had a horrible drive back on dark and flooded country roads.

My DGD Face timed me twice yesterday to show me first her very wobbly tooth and them the gap where it had come out.

No plans for today. I may start taking the decorations down.

Morning all and Happy New Year for 2023. Yes, we had fireworks, very loud ones. The cats slept on my bed for their twice a year treat! The other time being for Guy Fawkes. We are going out for lunch today to probably my favourite local restaurant. Have a peaceful day everyone.

A guid new year tae one and all! The enthusiasm for fireworks was dampened by a good fall of rain.
Stayed up watching the Laurel and Hardy film, had a wee sherry on the bells. Yesterday’s venture to Leeds was a bit of a waste of time, it turned out to be a fairly basic lesson on MacBook which I’ve been using for about five years now.

No fireworks here either, we were so engrossed in a TV series that we didn’t notice until 12.09 what the time was. Then the phone calls came in from family. Oops indeed as we usually call the family, what’s app was used for the first time this year for those in far off places.

Nephew has cooked lunch as an extra Christmas gift to us, let’s hope he is ok by the time he gets here. So I have a lazy morning.

I hope everyone has as good a day as they can, if only we had a reset button on January 1st, although in a way I suppose we do.

I was in bed and asleep by 10pm, that's a first!

I'm going to try and go to a later Mass today , at 11.30am, accompanied by DH, then a day of doing nothing.
Its a much quieter service with an organ and beautiful choir.
We received sad news yesterday, one of our parishioners, someone I know, died yesterday on a cruise ship. A bit of a shock to say the least.

Thank you Mick for faithfully starting this thread on a daily basis and I hope you find some resolution to your health worries in the coming year.
Also, I wish to thank all of you for your kindness towards me.

It’s getting light on Severnside and the thermostat says 17. I am sat by an open long window for some fresh air.
I didn’t hear any fireworks locally. I stayed up to watch the London ones, nodded off for a short while and then toddled off to bed.

I got my crafting done yesterday and also a FaceTime with Beechnutella. Today I’ve a dress to take up and a little mending. My new calendar is ready to be put up and the first birthday on it is later this week.

Good morning all from a dark North Leicestershire. The temperature is 7° and Alexa tells me that it is cloudy.

DH is off to the football this afternoon so will require a fry up before he leaves. I suspect he will need commiserations when he gets home.

Morning Mick, morning All. As I can hear neither rain nor wind I’m assuming our corner of Somerset is dry this morning. What a relief.

Our short venture out yesterday found some flooded roads, other than that an uneventful day pottering around carrying on sorting. If there were fireworks here to welcome the new year they didn’t disturb my sleep. I think we’re fortunate to live in a quiet spot.

Some more pottering before a friend calls for coffee late morning. Looking forward to hearing all her news. There will be phone calls to and from friends around the country. Later we’ll be having our turkey Christmas meal, a bit of a tradition when we’ve not been at home on the day and something we both enjoy.

Look after yourselves everyone. Hope this first day of a new year is gentle with us all.

Thank you, Mick, for your conscientiousness in starting this thread each day. It’s a joy to read and a lovely way to start the day.

A quiet NY Eve for us and we were content with that. A few fireworks were heard, mainly in the early evening but I think the rain deterred any potential revellers as we weren’t disturbed at all from our slumber, which began before midnight.

Early service for me then a walk, now we finally have a dry day in prospect. Yesterday, I went out for just a few minutes to the local shops and came home drenched! I think the shopkeepers were pleased to see me as everywhere was deserted. (Sensible people were indoors!)

I didn’t hear a thing either grandMattie, our neighbours who usually celebrate are away, the big luxury hotel up the road didn’t have the horrendously loud fireworks they usually have, thank goodness,- last year it sounded like bombs going off and we’re a mile away!
I too hear little being deaf! It does have its advantages occasionally 😊
Today I must wrap up a few bits I have for DGCs as they didn’t come down , sort out my untidy kitchen and the fridge.
I need to sort out a new calendar too!

Had a quiet and solitary day, early bed. I wasn’t woken up by fireworks. I wonder if any were set off, or have I become too deaf.
