Bank verification

I shop a lot on line as I live out in the sticks. I’m finding bank verification a complete pain. It appears at the end of your payment process and involves entering post code and phone number then waiting for a code number to arrive on phone then more faffing about and, often, being told it’s wrong so you start all over again.
Yesterday I tried 6 times in order to buy something which cost £10, then gave up. My phone continued to ring over and over with more unewanted codes.
If I could buy what I need locally I would, this nonsense is driving me crazy.

I use Paypal whenever possible, which usually cuts out the verification process, although they check sometimes, too. Having to get a code is a real pain, I agree.

watermeadow there is usually an option after you have put in the verification code to add the retailer to your trusted and frequent list. This means that you do not have to go through the process next time you buy from them.

I use first direct and have their app on my phone. So I buy online then I am told to go into my app which is so easy and a message is waiting asking me to verify the purchase which I do. Then pop back into my online purchase which is still open on my iPad press confirm and it’s done. So easy. I choose first direct because like you I hated all the faff but this is so easy

At the end of the day it’s for our safety but I do agree it’s a faff. The other thing that annoys me is Sainsburys online - I put in my email and password only for it to send me a special number by email which I then have to input before I can start ordering. Complete pain.

I agree that having to get a text code from banking apps etc is a real pain, as our mobile signal is awful. However, now that I have set my phone to WiFi calling texts come through easily. Perhaps others could try this?
Using PayPal and its authenticator app, which generates random codes continually, negates the need for a code to be sent.

I have never had any trouble (sorry!) and quite like getting the code as a voice message on my landline as I find it easier to remember a spoken series of numbers than reading them off my mobile.
IMO if it cuts down on fraud, the slight inconvenience is a price worth paying.

Barmeyoldbat I’m with Santander and it’s the same, no problem.
