Hello smile
We haven’t had a Night Owls thread for ages, so I thought I’d start one.
I know that there are quite a few of us about in the wee small hours, and it can be a lonely time.
So here it is.
I look forward to chatting in the nights and weeks to come x

I also read that the idea of "early to bed, early to rise" linked with being virtuous is a new idea.
Good! I have been awake since 4 ish and will probably go back to sleep in a while and then be "late" up. 🙄

www.sleepfoundation.org/how-sleep-works/biphasic-sleep#:~:text=Biphasic%20sleep%20is%20a%20sleep,as%20segmented%20or%20bimodal%20sleep.

Interesting. It's a while since I heard about this.
This article doesn't mention it but I read that scientists believe it started with early man migrating North where the nights were longer. I think I read it made sense to get up, tend fires etc.

BlueBelle Sun 05-Feb-23 06:08:39

😂😂.
I know we are actually programmed as we get older to have shorter sleeps with a break or breaks between
It never really worries me I still nod off in the late afternoon evening whether I sleep well or not 😳

NotSpaghetti Sun 05-Feb-23 06:02:45

Now I'm going to have to Google it! grin

NotSpaghetti Sun 05-Feb-23 06:02:09

Other patterns do include the siesta thogh

NotSpaghetti Sun 05-Feb-23 06:01:46

It can be, but the "original" was when you had a gap in the night sleep.
It's thought that the one-sleep at night only started during the industrial revolution!

BlueBelle Sun 05-Feb-23 05:55:45

I thought biphasic was when you have a shorter than normal night sleep and also a day sleep notspaggetti

NotSpaghetti Sun 05-Feb-23 05:52:53

I think we call it bi-phasic sleep.

NotSpaghetti Sun 05-Feb-23 05:51:24

The truth is, people used to have two sleeps a night. It was an "ordinary" pattern so I don't feel concerned if I wake up and later go to sleep again.

NotSpaghetti Sun 05-Feb-23 05:49:50

Yes, I'm awake.
Hello.

BlueBelle Sun 05-Feb-23 05:47:32

WW2 that’s my sleep pattern too but I don’t go to bed till 10.30/11pm couple of hours sleep, couple of hours wake I usually get about 5 hours

Morning lemsip and anyone else awake.
I was just having a quick wordle and quordle session but then I got side-tracked by other threads!

Whitewavemark2 Sun 05-Feb-23 04:08:54

Hello😄

I often wake for a couple of hours during the night, then drift back to sleep again.

I go to bed very early though, so easily get 8+ hours in. I just do it in shifts😄😄

So good morning everyone and good night for the second time😴😴

lemsip Sun 05-Feb-23 04:03:19

oh no, six other posters awake.

lemsip Sun 05-Feb-23 03:57:30

Just popping in to catch up,
I'm still here with my mum, She is getting better now thank goodness and I'm hoping that I'll be able to think about going home for a day or two by the end of Feb.
She is very deaf without her hearing aids. I can make as much noise as I like but light wakes her so I have to choose my screen times carefully! All the doors here are frosted glass so no hiding that the laptop is on.

Ginny; we cleared both BiL and MiL's houses. Do get help with both the clearing and the cleaning. Keep the invoices. We claimed that expenditure back from the estate through the solicitor before the inheritances were settled.

Will be thinking of you all over the weekend.

Alioop Sat 04-Feb-23 07:12:17

I was actually thinking that yesterday Maya, when you all wished me the best, how nice it was to have you all on here. You are there at the start of my day and I do find it helpful having you all to chat to, so a big thank you.
Miss Ivy is up early this morning so I'll be heading shortly to the seafront for a walk to clear my head and get some sea air.

I have no idea how it works that total strangers can make us feel better, I only know that it does. I imagine it's because we can empathise with each others pain and anxiety. xx

Morning Alioop.
It's awful being on your own and worrying. I hope you get your appointment very quickly. Keep us updated please.
It's amazing how much better this thread and all of you gave made me feel.
I hope It's the same for you.

Maya1 Sat 04-Feb-23 06:07:51

Good morning Fanny and Ginny
I slept for about 5 hours, so feel a little better in myself. Unfortunately the news isn't so good about DH. We are still waiting for the MRI to be done. However he gets weaker by the day.
I hope all went well for you Alioop. Please let us know how you are.
I'm glad Gracie is well, Fanny, she is a sweetheart. Finn is bringing me a lot of comfort at this time.
Ginny, you have an awful lot to do at the moment, make sure you look after yourself.
Thank you all for your support, it means so much.

Alioop Sat 04-Feb-23 06:02:49

Morning to you all. Hope your crown is all sorted Ginny. I'm waiting on another appointment for more tests, hopefully they won't be long sending for me again. I live on my own and at times I sit and get myself so worried about things, I just hope all be be fine.
Great news about Gracie Fanny, I'm sure you are glad the lampshade is off. My legs used to be covered in bruises when my dog had one on with her ramming it into them.
Maya I'm thinking of you and your DH and the awful time you are both going through.

Ginny42 Sat 04-Feb-23 05:08:25

Good morning Fanny. You're up with the lark too so I hope you're OK.

My DD insisted I took some melatonin and promised I would sleep. I slept for 5 hours which is great for me. She is returning home today. I will continue to clear the former family home and meet the estate agent there on Monday for a valuation. How weird is that after being divorced from her father for over 30 years? It's one of those times when I just have to bite the bullet as the saying goes.

I hope you are sleeping Alioop, but do let us know how it went yesterday. flowers
Maya you have my special thoughts. It's a tough time for you. flowers

FannyCornforth Sat 04-Feb-23 04:41:19

Hello
How is everyone?
Ginny how did you get on at the dentist? thanks
Maya any news? I really hope that you are okay thanks
Alioop you too of course thanks
I was thinking of you all yesterday.

Gracie is absolutely fine now.
She had a lump removed from her mouth that they discovered during her op. It went for tests and it’s come back fine.
Her eye is almost completely healed and she’s no longer wearing the cone of shame.

Maya1 Fri 03-Feb-23 08:12:59

Thanks Fanny. I hadn't. I was getting concerned about it.
I won't bother contacting the doctor now.xx

Alioop Fri 03-Feb-23 07:34:03

Thank you all for your kind words, it really means a lot.
Good luck for the dentist today Ginny, horrible places.
Take care everyone.
