Dogs and husbands, eh?
Hattie came to me as Paw started one of his final stays in hospital in 2017 and I vividly remember her asleep beside on the sofa with her head on my shoulder, her long nose actually in my ear in the wee small hours of what turned out to be his last night as I sat up watching some mindless TV while he was in surgery for a massive internal bleed.
She was my 24/7 companion for the 2-3 years after he died which of course took us into lockdown, and I was devastated when she had to be PTS with a serious internal illness in 2021. For the first time ever I was not able to hold my dog in those last moments because of the covid restrictions. Always felt I let her down.
Sorry, this is all v depressing and not what anybody needs.
Let’s hope the Good Morning thread and Mick’s plans for buses to Bicester and Buckingham soon cheer us up. You don’t need me bringing you down! Thank you for your company 😴😴😴

All New Night Owls 🦉🌙 ☕️
(284 Posts)Hello
We haven’t had a Night Owls thread for ages, so I thought I’d start one.
I know that there are quite a few of us about in the wee small hours, and it can be a lonely time.
So here it is.
I look forward to chatting in the nights and weeks to come x
That's so sad GG, losing so many dogs so closely. Ollie and Ivy are gorgeous.
Thank you all for support, l know many of you nursed or helped nurse your own loved ones and will be glad of any advice.
I only have my DS and DDiL, they are very supportive but both work and my DGD has SEN. The rest of my family are deceased.
My DH family all live in the US.
Off to make a cup of tea now before Finn wakes up.
That's so a sad about Ollie GG, heartbreaking.
Mayal glad to hear your GP is being so helpful, you feel better when you know they are there for you.
The snow is still lying here, but temperatures to rise now and rain on its way. At least we got a bit of a walk in the snow, my dog won't go out in the rain. Here's a picture of my Ivy Fanny. She nearly 10 now, we think anyway, I rescued her nearly 6 years ago as a stray so don't know her age for sure.
Yes, Maw by this time DH was ill and said he’d rehome the rest of the dogs, but I adored Ollie and promised I’d keep him for the rest of his life. Sadly, he died a couple of years before DH.
Fanny yes the NYT and one you can find if you search for spellingbeegame. They do have some strange words on that one though!
@ GG, but hopefully dropped dead doing what he loved best? A bit like my friends DH who died at the Golf Club just before Christmas. A dreadful shock to everybody but he was simply in his favourite place. 😢😢😢
Sincere sympathy
The sneezing affects me FC explosive from both ends!
We had an awful year dogwise then. S was diagnosed with breast cancer and was PTS, then the daft old cocker spaniel C had a second stroke and was also PTS. Unbelievably a young spaniel then suffered a twisted bowel and while I’d rushed him to the vet as soon as I’d seen him looking so sorry for himself, he was untreatable. Then Ollie, so we’d lost 4 dogs in 6 months - devastating!
Oh my word, what a really sad story GG. Poor Ollie. He was an amazingly impressive dog.
I can totally understand your heartbreak
How are you feeling now? With me it’s coughing that causes issues
I’ll attempt to post pics of Ollie, one of our spaniels. He was a Field Trial Champion, the 3td best dog in the country and in great demand as a stud dog.
One day when he was out with DH, he failed to respond to the whistle and DH found him dead in the grass. He was 11 - broke our hearts.
Ginny which Spelling Bee do you do? Is it the NYT one?
GG yes, the stamps thing has been very confusing.
I looked it up the othrr day, The official line from the RM is that ‘the deadline’ is the end of this month, but we have ‘a period of grace’ until the end of July when the stamps can still be used and are valid.
Good morning all! It’s nice to see so many of us here; not so nice that we are worrying/ feeling ill etc, but you know what I mean.
Oh Maya it’s wonderful to hear that you’ve had more positive news, and also that your GP is being supportive, that’s such a help too.
Our GP is absolutely marvellous, and I’m so grateful to them.
Sally Harvey is an adorable little lad!
Alioop can we see a picture of your dog too please?
Hope that everyone is feeling warm, comfy and relaxed
Think I saw on GN that the stamp change date had been extended to the end of July? I was lucky that I only added a few to what I already had to post my Christmas cards. I always used to have plenty to send cheques etc, but hardly post anything these days.
Morning everyone A cold and frosty one out there in Cheshire. Slept since early for me around 10.30, so wide awake at 2.30 a.m.
Not surprised you're finding it difficult to sleep Maya, but good news that your DH is making progress and reassuring that the GP's are helping.
Sorry you're suffering with a nasty cold, Geeorgesgran but you're really in the best place staying cosy.
Have read the news and started my spelling bee; not yet in the mood for Wordle. Just downloaded a form to reclaim unused stamps which become illegal at the end of the month, so will print that and send them off today. Will need to use one for that! Then it's a cuppa and toast. Take good care of yourselves.
Things are improving here. I still have my cold, but it has dried up, giving my poor nose a chance to recover!
Mayal it’s good to hear your DH is recovering a little - progress post stroke can be very slow, so it may be a while before he’s discharged. Perhaps this will help to identify his other health problems too? I hope you both get the help you will need to get him home. Does your son/other family live nearby to give you a hand. Not driving is difficult - sometimes, to get away on one’s own just for half an hour can be such a help. At least you can take your dog out for a bit of exercise.
Well, I’m sleeping on the sofa at the moment, as it’s an easier run to the loo than it is upstairs - TMI, but I’ll leave you to guess - it’s the sneezing!!
David Gilmour is on 130 - it’s gentle and melodic, so I’ll settle down and see if I can sleep, but the room is cold and white frost outside already.
Hello! Just moved on here from taking a miserable 6 for wordle. Life can only get better! Sleep eludes but I'm wonderfully cosy. Meeting two friends for coffee at 1030 so that's a look forward to. Will now catch up with Graham Norton and guests. Like him a lot.
Wide awake here. I'm okay, thank you all for your kind thoughts. My DH is slowly recovering, his right side is affected. Speech still slurred and swallowing a problem.
I have tried to be positive and contacted our GP for help and they have been very supportive. They have told me that the hospital must put some kind of care plan in place to help for when DH gets out of hospital.
The pictures of Gracie and Harvey have cheered me up enormously.
Hope you are feeling better Georgesgran.
Mayal so sorry about your husband, what an awful time you're both having. 💐
Gracie and Harvey are both adorable. I think a thread with photos of pets would be nice, or maybe it's been done.
How is your DH, Mayal Are you doing ok?
Morning to you all.
Mayal hope you doing ok 💐
A belated Happy Birthday Fanny 🎂my last dog had a wart removed from her eyelid and she was great afterwards.
GG hope your cold goes away quickly, there's so much if it about
The photos of your two dogs look are gorgeous, I adore mine. We haven't got out for our long walks as the snow is still lying here, it just freezes up every night and makes everywhere so slippy. I'll have to try to get out today for some shopping, but not looking forward to getting my car out of the driveway as it's a wee bit steep and very slippy. I'll have to get some proper clothes on too as I've spent my days in my Oodies as they have kept me so warm.
After recovering from cystitis - I thank you for your good wishes, I’ve gone down with a stinker of a cold - got through 2 loo rolls today! Really annoyed, as I’d avoided catching DD2’s Christmas cold and DD1’s New Year Covid. I’ve no idea where this has come from. I’ve had two long naps and now wide awake, so I’m on the sofa with a cup of tea and a bit of selly telly.
Lovely pictures of dogs - I help DD2 with hers, but after a lifetime - well 50 years - of having multiple dogs, I don’t want the responsibility, at my age, of another.
Thank you.
I hope that you have an okay today, and manage to get some positive news from the hospital.
I’ll be thinking of you.
Keep us posted if you feel able
Happy birthday, l hope you are doing something nice to celebrate.
Thank you.
Good luck with the operation next week.
Gracie could easily be a dog model she is so photogenic and looks like she is so at ease in front of the camera.
