Hello smile
We haven’t had a Night Owls thread for ages, so I thought I’d start one.
I know that there are quite a few of us about in the wee small hours, and it can be a lonely time.
So here it is.
I look forward to chatting in the nights and weeks to come x

My neighbour tells me she hears the owls in the woods regularly, but I never do although I've seen it fly in the dawn light. I'm waiting for 'my' blackbird that sits on the roof to signal daybreak. I've been feeling under the weather for a few days and haven't slept well, so it will feel less lonely when the birds start their chorus.

I slept last night, so I'm here as a crow this morning! I got some shower gel in my eye late last night and thought I was going to have to go to hospital it was so bad. The last place I wanted to be was A&E, so I rinsed it every few minutes then took a painkiller and slept from about 2.30 till 6.30. Would rather be sleepless than repeat that episode. May see you tonight!

Agreed Grammaretto ! I wonder what the Quordle will include today!

Maya1 it has been a pretty rubbish year so far all round I think. I'm sorry that your path has been so rough.

I'm thinking of going back to the ancient Roman calendar and restarting the year on March 25th!

Grammaretto Sat 11-Mar-23 06:27:55

Ha ha! lixy I was listening to Clare too and cross with the wordle. That's not a word!

lixy Sat 11-Mar-23 06:14:33

Good luck with the wordle everyone. Took me a while today.

Now feeling warm and cosy while listening to Clare Balding battling the storm in the Scottish Isles. Hope you are all warm.

I'm back at my mum's for the weekend as usual now to do the weekly shop and 'be around' on the days carers don't come in. She's nearly back to herself after a nasty illness over Christmas. She's not going out yet so still needs support with shopping etc. Hoping for Spring weather soon so we can start short walks,

I don't sleep nearly as well here as I do at home. Such a nuisance as I need all my patience to listen to the same stories on repeat!

Morning night Owls
It seems there are a lot of us awake this morning. I am struggling to sleep most nights at the moment as DH is still in hospital after his strokes. The prognosis isn't good although we are hoping for the best.
I have had the most wonderful support from a gransnetter and it has made such a difference in the past few weeks.
I also lost our beloved Finn on Thursday.
Hopefully things can only improve.

Turned out the light and tried to sleep again but my mind was racing. I think we just need less sleep as we get older. I sleep after my acupuncture session. I even nod off on the couch there sometimes.
Reached Genius in the spelling bee and now will try Wordle, although I lost patience with words with just one letter different and so became just a guessing game.

I hope the tea and biscuits help Doodle
If I wake early I usually catch up later ongrin
Sorry about your quandary Allsorts
Not good when your night thoughts take over
I think I will try to get another half hour before I venture downstairs to the freezing kitchen to make a cuppa.
Would a teasmaid help?

Kim19 Sat 11-Mar-23 05:24:57

Hello all! when sleep evades I often turn to gentle music and it sometimes lulls me back into the land of nod. However I don't really mind being awake as long as I'm comfy and cosy. Just had a look through the window. Cars frosty white but no more snow. Hallelujah! Off to have my daily attempt at wordle now. Cheers!

Allsorts Sat 11-Mar-23 05:18:56

Good morning everyone, just couldn't sleep. been snowed in for three days and talking to the walls. I have my mind permanently turning over as I need to move from my too big home but too nervous as there isn't family to help, neighbours I knew most of them have died now so I just stay because I know the area.
Going to try to sleep for an hour thinking of a nice holiday in the sun.

Doodle Sat 11-Mar-23 05:12:46

We’re having tea and biscuits 🤣

MrsKen33 Sat 11-Mar-23 05:00:01

Thanks Doodle Trouble is if I get up it disturbs Mr K and then it’s tea and biscuits and solitaire on the iPad. All sorts

Doodle Sat 11-Mar-23 04:55:02

Hello MrsKen. It’s annoying when you’re laying there wide awake when you just want to sleep. It’s easier to get up and read or something. I often do that.

Doodle Sat 11-Mar-23 04:53:19

Hello Grammaretto. We’re still up. DH is having a shortbread biscuit to try and overcome the feeling of nausea.
Have you got any snow where you are?

MrsKen33 Sat 11-Mar-23 04:52:42

Well I’ve given up. I woke at half one and have been awake since. Given up trying so read a bit and now on here. Possible sleep after lunch. No point in worrying about it it just makes it worse

Hope everyone else had a better night .

Grammaretto Sat 11-Mar-23 04:49:22

Hello night owls. I hope you are back asleep now. All quiet here but I sometimes hear a tawny owl.

Doodle Sat 11-Mar-23 04:45:54

Hello Ginny I’m up. Despite not living near woods we have a fox too. Like you I hate the sound they make. I thought it was an animal being tortured.

Fanny I see you’re back on the the night duty thread. Can’t think how I’ve missed it before as we are usually up around 2.30 am with DHs RLS. Just for a change tonight we slept till 4. Not up with RLS now but nausea instead. 😥. Can’t win can you.

Ginny42 Sat 11-Mar-23 03:25:47

Any owls out there? I regularly hear a real owl in the woods nearby but not tonight. The foxes have been around making their eerie call though. I don't like that. The first time I heard them here I panicked as I'd never heard a noise like it before.

I peeped to see whether is was white outside but yesterday's snow melted in the bright sunshine. Off to make a cuppa and toast.

Ginny42 Thu 09-Mar-23 03:56:07

Awake at 3.00 and got up to see whether there was snow. No snow here in north Cheshire at the moment. I love to see it, but it means I won't have to clear the car to go to art group this morning.

MrsKen33 Sun 05-Mar-23 05:22:17

It didn’t last long. Awake just after three this morning and still awake.

Ginny42 Sun 05-Mar-23 05:19:56

Any Owls awake? If so hope you're not awake with discomfort or feeling upset. This sleep pattern seems to have become a habit for me. I read that the temperature was going to plummet and left the heating on and woke up too hot.

Kim19 Thu 23-Feb-23 06:32:57

Please to hear this Mrs K. Funny how we can't always a count for radical changes in our bodily functions but lovely to hear when it's a positive one. Long may it continue for you. 👍

MrsKen33 Thu 23-Feb-23 05:53:50

I haven’t posted here for a while as for some reason I have been sleeping a good 7 hours. If I wake for the bathroom ,I go straight back to sleep, which wasn’t the case before. I can’t think why this change but very grateful for it. Have a restful day everyone.

Ginny42 Thu 23-Feb-23 05:49:03

Good morning Owls. It's kind of comforting that others are managing to sleep whilst I'm awake. I'm not awake because I'm upset or worried, unless I count when I reached out to put my mug on the bedside table and missed, spilling tea all over my cream carpet. I ran to the kitchen for a cloth and cleaner (I do mean ran) and it doesn't seem to have stained.

It's painting club this morning, so I hope I stay awake and then the hairdresser, so I shall have lunch in a very nice cafe nearby.
