I commented. It was one actually started by GN HQ.
I guess it's an easy way for a new member to post.

I think that welcome one was actually from GNHQ which is very appropriate. Maybe they could start a new one now we have a new year ?

as jenniferEccles just said though,

most old threads are opened by scammers who use it to advertise, thats why the first post by the scammer is reported and deleted
you need to check date of original post then choose to read or not. often original poster has long gone with problem solved

Personally, I didn't tut tut or think that it was a crime. I just thought that a welcome post that's almost three years old might no longer be relevant and maybe the contributors are no longer members themselves. I can't start a new welcome thread as I haven't been on here long enough. I have found benefit from some of the other topics though.

I think it is better to start a new discussion on the same lines as some of them are quite long.

Some of these old discussions are very interesting for all sorts of reasons and it would be a shame to delete them. If someone gets either help or information from them then that is a good reason for keeping them. I see no problem when an old thread is resurrected, although some people tut tut about it as if it's a crime.

In many cases old threads, in some cases very old, are resurrected by scammers/ advertisers who have picked up on a key word and use the thread to advertise their wares.
Mostly they are easy to spot and then posters will report them.
Otherwise, yes why not comment on an old thread if it’s of interest.

I’ve found that, responded to an old post that’s just as relevant today, without realising it, then others join in as they obviously do.

I do understand that some topics are still relevant.

I'm quite new to Gransnet and I am enjoying reading and sometimes contributing to the forums. I do wonder why some discussions aren't deleted from site after a certain time. I opened a Welcome to New Users discussion and it was posted May 2020.
