Anyone else? I start to get twitchy if stuff hangs around for too long, but other people like the decorations up for as long as possible. It looks a bit bare though!

I'm in Belgium, Flanders region. We have Sinterklaas here on the 6th of december. Like Santa he brings toys and candy for the children. We tend to put up our tree not before Sinterklaas has left the country and went back to Spain. Some people put up their tree much earlier, but we like to have our holidays in turn. And usuually our tree has gone to recycling before Epiphany. This year I did some decorations only but not a tree as we spent the holidays abroad. Will keep stuff up for the last seasonal visits this week but come the week-end only the cards will remain.

I haven't received all my Christmas cards and presents yet, thanks to Royal Mail. I'll wait until the last card I am expecting comes in before I take everything down,

All packed away yesterday (2nd Jan) HNY to you all xx

I always pack Christmas away before New Year as my son's bday is today, 3rd, and I didn't want it lumped together with Christmas festivities (he wasn't due until 23rd Jan before anyone says I didn't plan it properly)
He left home a few years ago and is married with his own son but I still pack Christmas away before New Year.

Took all of our Christmas decor down and put up some New Year's decorations. Kept the evergreen centerpieces that are doing well. I am now thinking to make a winter wreath and some winter garland to keep on the fireplace.

Have just got everything down and packed away this morning, cards cut up ready for a matching game when we return to Rainbows next week. Dusting and vacuuming will be done this afternoon.

Ours have come down today. Couldn't face the struggle to put things back into the loft so have been online and ordered two attractive looking storage boxes which can go on top of the wardrobe until next year. If getting the things out of the loft this Christmas was difficult goodness knows how we would manage next Christmas!!!

grandtanteJE65 Tue 03-Jan-23 12:23:55

I stick to the tradition of taking down the Christmas decorations on the 5th or 6th of January, so mine are still up.

I regard this first days of January as my holiday from housekeeping, where I just do the bare minimum, although I did wash clothes yesterday and iron them today.

A couple of years ago I bought plastic storage boxes that are large enough to hold a fair amount of decorations and small enough to be easy to carry down from the loft and back up.

It has made decorating and putting the things away again so much easier, so I recommend others to try something similar.

Door wreaths are away, dipped in nut butter and birdseed.

We'll take down baubles and trees on 7th, after Church on 6th.

Pack our large quantity of pretty dec and souvenirs late January.

We've decided the outdoor garden lights are so pretty - we're not removing. The children's funs will all be moved to a shed.

DS and family only headed home this morning, so all i have done so far is wander around the house litter picking and washing up

Tomorrow I will start working round the house at the rate of one room a day taking down decorations and giving the room a good clean.

Iam64 Mon 02-Jan-23 18:58:14

Cards, lights and decorations all down. I ran out of energy at 4 so lit the fire and decided to do the tree tomorrow.
Our local alpaca farm has suggested we drop our trees off as the alpacas like to eat them. Looking forward to doing that tomorrow.

My decorations stay up until Twelfth Night , and they never go up until after 19th December (family birthday,)
Can never understand people who put their decorations up so early in December. Why?

MaizieD Mon 02-Jan-23 18:30:21

Twelfth Night for me, too. Mine don't go up until Christmas Eve, either. I had a very traditional 'Christmas doesn't start until 25th December and it goes on for 12 days' upbringing and I can't come to terms with it starting in late November!

Redrobin51 Mon 02-Jan-23 18:29:25

Yes we packed everything away this afternoon and everything looks very tidy but bare. I honestly think we are getting too old for putting things up in the loft but have had many of the decorations since we got married and loathe to get rid of them but really should par them down so they could go in a wardrobe.

AreWeThereYet Mon 02-Jan-23 18:25:38

Twelfth Night for us. Will probably strip the tree on Thursday evening and put that away, remove the cards then everything else on Friday. There aren't any decorations that get in our way and we're still enjoying them at the moment.

Redhead56 Mon 02-Jan-23 18:15:33

Started packing away bits and bobs today. The last thing will be the tree on the 5th.

TerriBull Mon 02-Jan-23 18:11:17

I'm looking at my Christmas Tree and thinking it hasn't shed anything this year, it almost seems a shame to get rid of it, but come down they must sometime this week. Although I left one rustic, wintery wall thing up all year from last Christmas which my grandchildren thought was appalling shock Quite the little dictators as far as the right time to have them in place, we're always too late and then putting them away still too late!. They have the air of The Christmas Tree Police about them I'm almost quaking at the thought of their next inspection hmm

cornergran Mon 02-Jan-23 17:40:36

Most packed away today. Just some cushions to go.

This year we’ve stopped using large boxes and instead packed things in transparent heavy duty plastic storage bags. Much smaller and easier to handle. It also means I can see what’s inside each one. Anything heavy has found a place under an ottoman bed. We must be getting old grin.

pandapatch Mon 02-Jan-23 17:35:22

It looks so bare when it comes down. I do it in stages leaving the tree to last, it will go on 12th night

GrannyGravy13 Mon 02-Jan-23 17:31:12

Tree is out for collection (Council recycles for mulch in the parks)

All decorations are in the dining room, I am going to have a good sort out before they are returned to the loft.

gillgran Mon 02-Jan-23 17:30:14

Ours will all be away by, or on, 12th night.

Mollygo Mon 02-Jan-23 17:29:40

Done and dusted. It looks so fresh and tidy and I’ve added a vase of flowers instead.
We have the same rule, Violet Sky. This year, the singing, dancing Christmas tree was packed away first, much to DGD’s disappointment. Last year she played it every visit, even in the height of summer.

rafichagran Mon 02-Jan-23 17:29:21

I am regretfully taking mine down tommorow, decorator is coming.
My real tree is still lovely and has barely dropped a needle.

Kamiso Mon 02-Jan-23 17:28:48

Ours didn’t really go up! We were on holiday for the first week of December, then had the last room decorated the week before Christmas. We bought a tree from a local nursery where they reduced all trees to £10 - even ones normally £150.

Didn’t get round to decorating it and there’s no point now. The tree has roots and is potted so we are hoping to plant it out in the communal garden.

Feel a bit sad but not sad enough to make the effort! Thinking of buying an artificial tree for future use.

All my get up and go must have been removed with my gall bladder!

Harris27 Mon 02-Jan-23 17:23:47

All away felt a bit sad it’s been one of the best Christmas times we’ve had. Mainly down to us doing as we pleased and taking time off work. Memo to one self plan ahead and take time off from now on. Tree away cards all cut up for my nursery kids to sticky picture with. Also the room looks tidy and I’m already missing the twinkly lights! Back to work tomorrow 😏
