Some of the names that you ladies have chosen quite intrigue me, and I wonder the story behind them. Mine is in remembrance of both my Grandmothers.

mamaa Tue 03-Jan-23 23:29:51

It’smy first grandchilds early attempt at saying ‘Grandma’

Simply a nickname from childhood.

fiorentina51 Tue 03-Jan-23 23:13:02

My Italian grandmother who lived near Florence used to call my Fiorentina when I stayed with her.

I grew up with lots of hens. They were my friends, until mum wrung their necks.

cornergran Tue 03-Jan-23 22:55:10

Because I live on a corner - and could think of nothing else.

pinkprincess Tue 03-Jan-23 22:53:34

I was being a mean girl when I was thinking a name. Where I live people do not have daughters they have princesses. And they dress them in pink. So I thoughtI will be a pink princess although I am a great grandmother.

I left Gransnet, then I came back. In Spanish. No, I'm not Spanish. 😆

25Avalon Tue 03-Jan-23 22:47:39

I live in the West Country where stories of King Arthur abound. Avalon was taken already although I’ve not seen anyone posting as that, so I put 25 in front for silver which is the name I gave my first computer. Also we have several apple trees.

GD1 had two grandmothers who expected to be Granny so she had Granny Suffolk (sadly no longer with us) and Granny Somerset. Granny Suffolk actually became Hammy, so I was left as just Granny.

Skye17 Tue 03-Jan-23 22:43:50

I had a lovely trip to the Isle of Skye.

MawtheMerrier Tue 03-Jan-23 22:43:48

Because of my undying admiration for the doyenne of the Broon family.

Theexwife Tue 03-Jan-23 22:37:14

Whilst trying to choose a name The Ex-Wife was advertised on TV, I thought it would have been taken. It suits me anyway as I am an ex-wife.

nanna8 Tue 03-Jan-23 22:27:12

I have 8 grandchildren. Plus 4 that are not actually mine but adult grandchildren by marriage. Looking forward to the birth of gt grandchild number 5 in a couple of month’s time. I was delighted to find gransnet because I assumed it was mainly for grandparents.

Elusivebutterfly Tue 03-Jan-23 22:21:35

I originally had a name which people who knew me might recognise. I asked to change my name and was trying to think of something from nature that sounded pretty. This is the title of a 1960s song I heard being played when looking for a name.

aonk Tue 03-Jan-23 22:19:08

Mine is a combination of initials.

DaisyAlice Tue 03-Jan-23 22:10:11

I'm enjoying the interesting and funny responses. Thanks for taking the time. You made me laugh Violet. I now know the correct name for a bottle brush shrub Callistemon21.

Wyllow3 Tue 03-Jan-23 21:38:47

sorry, "wyllow" mutter mutter predictive text.

what an interesting thread.

Wyllow3 Tue 03-Jan-23 21:38:02

I tried one or two options but they were taken. I wanted to use *Willow" from the Joan Armatrading song, but that was taken so I changed the spelling to "willow".

Daddima Tue 03-Jan-23 21:35:24

I have family from Gujerat, where Dadima is the paternal grandmother, and Nanima is maternal grandmother. I am the paternal grandmother, but I added the other ‘d’ just because it looks better!

Chocolatelovinggran Tue 03-Jan-23 21:32:50

TwiceAsNice Tue 03-Jan-23 21:28:45

My daughter was pregnant with her first baby. Her first scan said it was twins. That was “TwiceasNice “. The twins are now 13

allsortsofbags Tue 03-Jan-23 21:25:33

I've said this before but here goes.

One DD was talking to the other DD asking if they had a certain type of bag she could borrow.

Answer was no but ask mum she has "all sorts of bags". Yes I did have a suitable bag for DD to borrow :-)

When I needed a user name it just worked.

Now I could use "too many scarves" so culling bags and scarves will be part of the 23 in 23.

LRavenscroft Tue 03-Jan-23 21:23:38

From the musician Raf Ravenscroft who played sax on 'Baker Street'. I just loved his name.

Hellogirl1 Tue 03-Jan-23 21:23:33

I used to be a GPO telephonist, and started out as numberplease, then I became Callgirl1, problems arose, so I`m now Hellogirl1.
