Why did you choose your Gransnet Name?

My family nickname was ***bags

The day after my first grandchild was born my eldest brother phoned to congratulate me and said "Hello Grannybags"

It’s from σιωπή, which is Ancient Greek for peace, or calm.

It is not an apt name for me, I just like the word.

I lurked on GN for a long time, I felt in a limbo between MN and GN, too old for one and too young for the other. One day I saw someone say something that I really wanted to reply to (probably to argue with!) and made up a name quickly and without thought. I am not that keen on my GN name, prefer my MN one which was a reference to my dad.

However, it grew during lockdown.

My eldest grandchild was/is obsessed with dinosaurs and when we were playing at characters etc he said to me “you be Grandma dinosaur” and it stuck!
