My husband is a lovely man, but some of the things he says are just ridiculous. The latest, 5 minutes ago -

"I don't snore, that's just the noise my throat makes when I relax" grin

“Going on holiday ? Going anywhere nice?

No, thought I would go some where grotty 🤣🤣😡

'Tell your mother I was asking for her.' when they haven't mentioned mother until that point. confused

HousePlantQueen Thu 05-Jan-23 11:40:09

'Where did you last put it?'

when I am frantically searching for something.

I don't like "I'll see You when I see You." I think it's very dismissive and unfriendly. Many years ago someone who I had feelings for said it to me and it upset me for the rest of the day!!shock

I think it was Peter Ustinov who, enjoined to "Have a nice day!" replied "Thank you, I have other plans."

^The one that really gets me is,
"We want for now't we've got", of course, you bl...don't.^

They are showing off in their own way saying that they have got everything they have ever needed or wanted.

I would take that to mean that anything they have, they don't have need of. It doesn't mean to say that they don't have need of anything else. Not showing off as such, but modestly saying that they don't need two of anything.

Cheer up. It might never happen. I once replied with It already has.

A complete stranger in a pub once said that to me.
Obviously, an attractive woman in her 20s in a boozer is supposed to be all smiles.
It was the eve of my mother’s funeral.
I’m certain that he’s never said it again

You just ....
in relation to working the central heating controls, doing something new on a computer, putting together flat-pack furniture.
Several frustrating hours later I usually come to think there is no justice anywhere!

'Enjoy your meals!' Well that's rather up to you isn't it?

Patsy70 Wed 04-Jan-23 22:04:11

sodapop. Sorry! It is just a phrase that I hear a lot and that is how I’ve interpreted it. There are many nonsensical things people say that I think are more annoying,

Nanamar Wed 04-Jan-23 21:59:11

Oh and the other one is “everything happens for a reason.” Nope - stuff happens randomly and also because people do foolish things sometimes and make things happen.

Nanamar Wed 04-Jan-23 21:57:41

I always hated “it is what it is.” Partly because I feel it’s very unsympathetic - we all have our difficulties and understand that some things cannot be changed - but to me it always sounded callous. When I mentioned how much I hated it to a friend who is a social worker, she replied that perhaps a better comment is “it is what it is - but maybe it doesn’t have to be - is there anyway to either make it better or make me feel better about it?” Typical of a mental health worker I guess but after that conversation if someone says it to me I usually add that last bit on.

“I’m good”
I’m not asking about your morals.

‘It is what it is’ in my very humble opinion means, ‘well, this s..t has happened and I’ve got no control, so I need to accept it’. I’m sure we’re all familiar with this and have to make the best of it.

Well I'm not and I don't Patsy it just annoys me.

Me too.

" They had a good innings". This still annoys me as that was my aunt, cousin or uncle who passed away at a great age.

ParlorGames Wed 04-Jan-23 20:00:11

"I just go with the flow"! No, you don't, you are just flakey, fickle, and unambitious!

'Have a nice day.' Sure, I'm off for chemo / squeezing out the dog's glands / cleaning out the drains, but your stupid comment has totally turned the day around for me. Thanks!

sodapop Wed 04-Jan-23 19:16:26

"It is what it is " what does that actually mean ?

‘Enjoy’. Always sounds like a directive to me.

It does sound like a directive . When someone says this to me I always want to say "What if I don't?".
