Do the Tales Get Taller?

I'm not a Royalist by any means, but I'm getting more and more fed up by the increasingly outrageous claims made by Harry and Megan, and the amount of coverage they are getting (Free Publicity) by the media. I expect in private the Royal Family are little different to any other family in their interpersonal relationships, it's just that ours are not dissected at every opportunity. To me the "revelations" seem to become more fanciful by the day, and no proof or witness for most of them. I just find it all hard to believe. It seems to me calculated aggression from a spoilt child who has not been able to get his own way, and is lashing out at his family, who he knows will not retaliate. (As a bonus, it makes him money!) Each time Harry "goes public", from Oprah to Spare, the claims become more extreme. Surely now it's time for the King to cut all Harry's Royal ties and titles, if only for the sake of the United Kingdom.

^Brother works in America^

So it's top new in America too?

It's farcical, it really is.

It's one thing chatting on social media but when it's the main news here and in the States, something is wrong with the priorities of those who produce news programmes.

Brother said it was on the early newsy, GMA.

Apparently a footballer newscaster was talking about/ interviewing to Harry about 'The Spare'.

Just seen this.

Witzend Fri 06-Jan-23 21:41:13

The front cover of Closer magazine, seen in local newsagent today, said ‘A-List friends shun Harry and Meghan after latest outburst.’
How true that is I don’t know.

Witzend Fri 06-Jan-23 21:38:31

She grew up though, didn’t she? Accepted her role and got on with it - as well as excelling at equestrian sports and bringing up level-headed children for whom she refused to accept titles. What a difference.

TBH I don’t think she’s due a great deal of kudos for excelling at equestrian sports. A good many people might have done the same, given ample money for good horses and all the paraphernalia, stabling, feed and vets’ bills, etc. they require. Not to mention from the time she could first manage to sit on a pony, homes with hundreds of acres of grounds in which to ride them.

She deserves respect for the other matters you mention, though.

Adrian Mole!!!

annsixty Fri 06-Jan-23 21:22:52

It is also the title of an Adria Mole book by Sue Townsend.
Hugely funny as are all her books including one about the Royal Family.

My DS2 made a comment on all this, this evening :

''We fight our family battles in public on Facebook, the royals wrote a book about it and make money''

OnwardandUpward Fri 06-Jan-23 19:50:18

Well perhaps you haven't personally experienced Estrangement, which is fortunate for you who haven't.

I'm sure anyone who wants to can start threads about all the things they feel need highlighting, which are more prominent in most people's minds.

Nobody has said they were. It's the media that are using Harry and Meghan as a weapon of mass distraction.

Brother works in America. He called, announced "there is news, worldwide, more important than the RF. Can't even seat a house majority leader, floods, Ukraine. My colleagues want to talk about weekend football, but the lead 7am story (apparently by a footballer newscaster) was 'The Spare' FFS"

Mass Distraction. Brother was very impressed, must watch colourful language with clients and colleagues. grin

imaround Fri 06-Jan-23 19:30:47

I am sorry I wasn't clear.

I do not think it is wrong to talk about in here.

I just observed that people are needing to talk about it (everywhere) while at the same time saying Harry shouldn't be talking about it.

I made an observation, that is all.

OnwardandUpward Fri 06-Jan-23 19:14:09

Yes they are being used as a Weapon of Mass Distraction. I agree it's wrong.
But I don't agree it's wrong to talk about it here.

I think the worst deal has got to be kids who were brought into this world just to donate a kidney , bone marrow or cells for an ill sibling. That has got to be the worst feeling. I also understand how a second child feels and it's not nice to be constantly less than, especially if the first child is a boy and your parents favoured a boy.

welbeck Fri 06-Jan-23 19:09:49

well that's hardly newsworthy.

Harry complaints (frfequently) about his privacy being invaded, yet he has said some horrendously personal things about Charles and William in this book which have been revealed in the interviews.

eg. he has announced that he is circumcised which was said in connection with saying that he had had frostbite on the tip of his penis ... and then went on to say that William was circumcised too.

He is a disgrace.

imaround Fri 06-Jan-23 18:45:36

I grew up that way too and ended up estranged.

But Harry has every right to do the same thing. Even if it doesn't turn out well or is not what people want to hear.

Neither here nor there obviously. Just something I noticed.

I hope Harry is getting some very good mental health treatment right now.

OnwardandUpward Fri 06-Jan-23 18:40:25

Well, I spend a childhood being shut up and shut down because children "should be seen and not heard", invalidated , unsupported, unable to speak out or be listened to about anything. It's good to chat on GN about things I can't talk about off screen.

Talking is how many people process things. Other's don't have to join in with a conversation here on GN they aren't comfortable with, but they shouldn't feel the need to try and stop others from talking if they are benefitting from that.

I won't buy the book.

imaround Fri 06-Jan-23 18:29:51

I am not fond of the idea of people needing to talk and not be censored while also believing that Harry should shut up.

I am waiting to form an opinion until I have read the book. But from what I am seeing reported right now, my opinion is there is some major generational trauma that extends past Harry as well.

I do not envy royals anywhere at this point. Seems like a pretty dysfunctional way to grow up IMO. Makes my childhood look like a walk in the park.

H&M are hardly in conspiracy with our government to keep the real news out.
The whole thing is a monumental mess up of gigantic proportions and is going to be talked about because people need to talk. To censor that would be rubbish.
Feel free to start a current news thread if you're worried we aren't in touch enough with other events.
What people choose to comment on doesn't mean they aren't paying attention to important stuff.

Meant to acknowledge lady Honoria’s quote - for which I thank her , it’s a cracker

I’m wondering when the £350 million a week that Mr Johnson said Brexit would give us to fund our nhs is going to arrive. But hey, estrangement in the RF Is much more important. It must be, or the peasants would be revolting by now

Ah, true.

I wouldn't speak if I was the RF. I don't talk of estrangement to anyone off screen. It's private and I don't like being judged. I did tell someone once but then they always put their own judgement on and no one needs that. I smile and chat to people about other things because I can and because no one would even know what to say.

^And I hate the way that this sort of thing keeps the real news out of the way.
Sunak must be delighted^.

I'm sure. Headline news, like we've nothing more important to talk about.
I do not believe they're telling lies.

I'm sure his tales of how he lost his virginity, his tales of Army life and other stories are true but much of what we perceive as true for one sibling may not be the whole truth as perceived by another.

Why tell at all?

Of course there are different perceptions of truth. We're getting it as H sees it. If the RF aren't willing to speak that's their problem.
I prefer to have compassion for someone who is obviously deeply troubled.

Yes, I've said previously that I feel sorry for him, he's obviously very troubled.

However, he can't realise this himself because he must know all the routes available to him for seeking help.

I wasn't referring to GN chatting.
Yesterday Harry was mentioned in the national news before the state of A&E. Just wrong.

Two final points (I hope) strike me. First Harry makes a big thing of being guided by his mother's spirit. Not sure how his current behaviour fits with her expressed wish to have him as William's wingman. Secondly his father made a joke about Harry perhaps not being his son. To my mind this is on a par with my parents often telling me that at least I knew I wasn't adopted because they would have sent me back! It's called a joke, it's what families do.

Perhaps he doesn't want to be his brother's wingman. Perhaps he just wants to be his brother's brother. Perhaps he wants to be his own man and not an appendage of his brother. Perhaps he wants to think for himself and live his own life. Perhaps, based on what he's seen from the inside, he doesn't believe in monarchy.

To quote Sting, if you love somebody, set them free.
