Goodness knows why, but I suddenly had this on the brain the other day, when visiting dd and family. Found the Children’s Favourites (1956 Mandy Miller) version on good old YouTube - Gdcs thoroughly enjoyed it - I had them merrily singing along in the bath!

How about a song called Little Boxes by Pete Seeger which went, 'We all live in little boxes, little boxes made of ticky tacky, little boxes ... all the same'?

I just asked Alexa to play Sparky’s Magic Piano so I could remember it, and she is now playing music by a duo called Sparky’s Magic Piano, which is quite pleasant but not what I asked for!

I love you, I love you said the little green man !!
Can’t remember who sang it but my little granddaughter used to love me singing it to her.

I've just googled him Kate1949 and he's still with us, in his early 80's and lives in Essex. He won Opportunity Knocks six times. 'Wheels-cha-cha' was the name of the tune.

I also remember 'Home, Home On The Range' which is a bit too 'country' for my taste these days. We got a free orange or blue disc of it with some breakfast cereal. Elder brother gave it away to one of his mates and we were quite upset about it.

The gas man cometh by Flanders and Swann. Still true today.

Nellie the elephant got into my head after a first aid course, perfect rhythm for CPR. Subsequently discovered some relatives had complained after a nurse hummed it while working on a resuscitation 😕

My favourite was Burl Ives, The Ugly Bug Ball.

Great memories of all these songs.
We were recently stuck in a long traffic jam with Gds aged 9 & 6 & I started singing There was an old lady who swallowed a Fly, to help pass the time. They both roared with laughter and by the end of our journey they had both learned the words.
I was so happy to pass a bit of my childhood on to them.
Such a shame these childrens songs are being lost.

I loved the song Bimbo by Jim Reeves. I so wanted a puppy and knew it would be called Bimbo. A lady in our street’s dog had pups and after much pleading with my parents was able to choose one. Bimbo grew to be the size of a small horse much to my
Mums horror.

Oh you are bringing so many memories back. I loved the music we had then. ‘How much is that doggie inthe window?’ I think was sung by Petula Clarke. Nellie the elephant - my sister was born about then, she loved the song so much, we often called her Nellie!

I remember all of these. Also liked Burl Ives and a version of The Owl and the Pussycat.
Doris Day, The Black Hills of Dakota
The Goons Ying Tong Song
Lots more that escape me at the moment. Innocent times.
These days children only seem to know quite suggestive pop songs because that’s all that’s available.

Born early 60s, still use Nellie the Elephant for CPR

Oh how well I remember Sparkys Magic piano. I loved it as a kid. Listening to it on a huge radio in the dining room (only allowed in the lounge on very special occasions 😂😂)
Also remember Nellie the Elephant - in fact I can remember all the words to it, so why can’t I remember what I did yesterday !

Two way family favourites the radio program used to have all these songs weekly. My sister and l used to run madly around the dining table - god knows why but we used to love them
l do not know if any one remembers Tinger and Tucker with Aunty Jean. My husband's family bought a house in Llandaff (Cardiff) in 1955 and the seller was Aunty Jean. The family have lived there all this time. My Mil is now 103 and we are just selling her house ( to pay for her care don't want to jinx it) to a lovely family

Played that on repeat in the car when GS was a few months old. Seemed to keep him happy. He's 12 now.

I remember Terry Scott singing My Brother always use to make us laugh. Also not a song but Joyce Grenfell's nursery school sketches.
