I didn't like Sparky. It scared me. I can remember my sister in tears over Puff The Magic Dragon.

I didn't like Sparky either and always found Puff The Magic Dragon heartbreaking at the end!

I used to sing"All the nice girls love a sailor", because my dad had been in the Navy. I realise now far too old a song for a little girl. Also one by Anne Shelton? "Sailor stop your roaming". He certainly had I was born in 1950 he came home in 1946.

My absolute favourite as a child was ‘Nymphs and Shepherd’ sung by some girls choir. Can’t remember the name. And I hated ‘Sparky’s Magic Piano’, Gave me the willies !

I remember all these songs, mainly from Childrens' Favourites and I, too, was taught to do CPR to 'Nellie the Elephant'.

Does anyone else remember the Toy Dolls' version of 'Nellie the Elephant' ? My DS was a fan and I later did a Japanese course with one of the Toy Dolls (they were popular in Japan, I believe) and managed to get DS a signed photo od the n=band members.

IIRC there’s an old song called ‘The Road to Mandalay’.

Ken Dodd used to sing "On the road to Mandalay", all dressed up in army tropical uniform with one of those women's false legs out of shop windows hanging down his back. It's in Myanmar.
I think there might even be a Kipling poem about it.
I always thought it sounded so romantic until when older I realised my uncle's brother is buried there in a WW2 war grave
