Who Likes To Play Bingo?

I used to go to play in our local RC church with my MiL. It was great fun, very sociable. We were the only Protestants but no one knew. (In Northern Ireland). I bought my first pushchair with winnings.

Witzend your story reminded me of a Spanish bingo caller on holiday in Gran Canaria one year.
She called "clickety" and none of us knew what number she meant.
Eventually she said, "You know: clickety click is 66, so clickety is 6."

The Spanish elderly love it! To be honest I’m not sure whether it’s actually legal there. They have very strict gaming laws but in some of the little bars, off the main drag, on certain evenings .... just wow!

When I retired I vowed never to play Bingo or bowls. And I stick to that.

Oreo, unfortunately not! but I've familiarised myself with quite a few obscure breeds.

My dear mum went to bingo, a lot, as my father worked long shifts and when my sister and I left home, she started playing and loved it. Over the years she won the odd holiday abroad and quite a few pounds. She had a fancy china tea-pot on the sideboard which held her winnings.

Never had a go at Bingo, and nothing like that locally near me.
I would play now and then if there was.

I do. It’s played locally and much faster than any I’ve tried in the UK. An enjoyable evening.
At local pubs meatdraws are held as separate events on a regular basis and very popular too. A raffle in any other words.

I used to go with my daughter. She loves it and still goes. I wasn't too keen but the first time we went we won £500. I get why people go. It's very sociable. You can get cheap food and drinks and it's a friendly atmosphere.

My mother had a friend who occasionally took her along to Bingo in her local "club" in the 1960s (and possibly 1970s) where they played for smallish prizes (and meat etc as you describe).
I don't honestly know how much mum enjoyed it but she liked her friend who was a "regular".

It doesn't attract me - though I did play on a cruise ship once.

I do have an old Bingo set in a cotton bag with wooden number buttons and flat disks to cover the numbers with and card boards. It came out sometimes at Christmas. I think my grandmother liked it.

When my dh was first working in the Middle East in the early 70s, there were very few expats - dh’s first car reg was 603 - the 603rd car in the whole country. And since there was very little in the way of entertainment, many of them used to gather once a week to play bingo in the mess of dh’s company (a Greek Cypriot one). In those early days apparently even our ambassador used to come!

It was evidently very jolly - numbers were called by a Greek Cypriot who’d lived in the U.K., so knew all about Two Fat Ladies, etc., and his 57 was ‘Heenzies Beansies’. 🙂

I play Bingo, at home, with GGC. Process is odd, winning are minuscule, they're happy, having tea, sitting still. What's not to like?

It’s not my cup of tea but I can see it would be great for a lot of people, friendship, fun and warmth to look forward to, with the chance of a nice win. It’s so important to have things to look forward to. Good for you HotfootSue, and for whoever runs it.

We played bingo on holiday in Greece last summer, my six year old granddaughter loved it.
I played with her mum, my daughter, at a similar age also on holiday at a Haven park. Going to the bingo session meant we had a good table and seats for the entertainment which followed on, my husband brought the two younger boys to join us then!

I went with a friend once about 25 years ago and won £80, quite a sum then.

I didn’t go back assuming the chances of winning again were slim.

Don't really fancy it now, too tight to gamble.

No! Can't stand the game but each to their own I guess.

My aunt was a fan, it sounded very sociable and she made some friends there.
