I am sitting by my husband’s bedside in hospital as he has had a heart attack. Next 24 hours are critical.

Callistemon21 Sat 14-Jan-23 20:15:26

Yes, it was a good idea to go to get your hair done, Cabbie.
You need a bit of 'me' time too.

Cabbie21 Sat 14-Jan-23 20:10:00

Thank you everyone. What a supportive community this is.

lixy Sat 14-Jan-23 20:03:03

Good idea to have your hair done - that's proper positive thinking.
Here's wishing you both as peaceful a night as you can manage.

Callistemon21 Sat 14-Jan-23 18:17:56

I've only just seen this thread, but am sending you and your husband all best wishes Cabbie21.

No, it's not that peaceful in hospital, always something happening! I hope you can both get some rest.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 14-Jan-23 17:40:34

Yes, I understand. But he’s in the best place and I hope you will be able to make a little time for yourself too. X

Hi Cabbie sorry to hear your DH is back on CPAP - hopefully this is just a blip and will settle down. Glad you were able to treat yourself to having your hair done. It’s not selfish at all - anything that gives you a boost is a good thing. You’ve a lot on your plate at the moment. Hope you’re getting some rest too.
Thank you for updating us all. Make sure you’re eating properly too (I’ll take my mother hen hat off now! Bother I have ‘hat hair’ now!) 😂 x

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 14-Jan-23 17:11:42

Definitely not selfish. You need to look after yourself too. I hope your husband soon improves. I will add him to my prayers. 💐

Cabbie, not selfish at all...any comfort you can get during this terrible time is a blessing...I hope he recovers...

Cabbie21 Sat 14-Jan-23 16:47:07

Thank you all.
The news is not great. Back on the c pap machine as his breathing not good. Can’t eat much as can’t swallow properly. Many tests, his hand are like pin cushions from all the finger prick tests and at the last check I saw the nurse could not get any blood to test. Supposedly off the critical list so we can only visit during normal visiting hours now. Other family are there now so I am catching up at home,
This sounds awfully selfish and trivial, but as I had to go into my small town centre to pick up my prescription I called into my hair dresser, having had to cancel on Thursday. She was able to fit me in straight away, a lovely moment of relaxation and a real boost.

Morning Cabbie,
I'm sorry to hear the news about your DH. He is in the best place possible to receive all the care he may need in the coming days.
I am glad to hear you have support yourself, make sure you look after yourself.
Take care. I will be thinking of you both today.

Hi Fanny
Thank you for your kind words.
I have lived in Scotland for a long time, but I struggle from time to time, with the written word.
My Polish accent is still very strong though, and some people have great difficulty in understanding all I have to say!!!!
Cabbie, I am so very glad that your husband is making such good progress.
That must be such a weight from your mind.
Agnieszka.

Thinking of you and wishing a prompt recovery

Fingers crossed Cabbie21 that your husband has continued to have a better day.

For what it's worth my Dad has had two cardiac events over the years and is still here, so hopefully your husband's doctors can work their magic as well.

I'm surprised about the comments regarding the noise and lights and busyness in the cardiac ward.
I worked on a different ward in our main hospital and sometimes had to go up to the cardiac ward for ice. There was a notice on the door asking for quiet because "poorly hearts need rest," and it was like an oasis of calm in there with dimmed lighting and subdued voices.

Tommo I do like your sense of humour 😉

That’s great news Cabbie about your DH - progress indeed. I’m glad you were able to rest up too. It’s important to look after yourself - you’re just as important 💐 x.

ShazzaKanazza Fri 13-Jan-23 10:35:29

Cabbie that is good news to hear that your DH is feeling a little better and brighter this morning. 💐

dustyangel Fri 13-Jan-23 09:25:33

It must have been such a lonely, long night Cabbie. I hope you can get some sleep today with better news soon.

lixy Fri 13-Jan-23 09:18:40

That's good news, thanks for the update.

Now make yourself eat, sleep and rest to build up your own reserves ready for the challenge of the next few weeks.

Cs783 Fri 13-Jan-23 09:14:31

Cabbie thanks again for updating us. Good progress 😊

Cabbie21 Fri 13-Jan-23 09:12:14

I had an offer of a lift home and had a good sleep. Such a help. DH is brighter this morning. On a new mask making it easier to speak and has just eaten a bowl of Weetabix his first meal so is looking good. Progress.

Caleo Fri 13-Jan-23 03:15:24

So many lovey people on here! Thank you all.
He is brighter now and more “ with it” but still critical.
