I think that's why I feel I have to reply to some posts in a way that's seen as negative, by some. Why do people exaggerate so?
All Met officers are corrupt.
All politicians are in it for themselves.
All SNP voters hate the English.
All the strikers are trying to bring down the government.
(I don't believe any of these, let me make that clear.)
Why do people take these attitudes? Is it just an attempt to make life simple in their minds, when it's anything but?

I think it’s just an expression of speech and I’m quite sure most people (if not all!) do realise that they are not talking about literally everyone
I agree with JenniferEccles.
However, picking up on this point in the OP:
All Met officers are corrupt.
It's possible that this belief could, whilst not be true, be thought to be true because the misogyny, sexism, racism, corruption, abuse is endemic in the Force as a recent report uncovered.
Officers who wanted to speak out were put in fear of reprisals.
"All that needs to be done for evil to prevail is good men doing nothing.”
All politicians are in it for themselves.
Politicians - do any enter politics because they are wholly altruistic?
Possibly
All SNP voters hate the English
I haven't read that but that doesn't mean someone hasn't posted it.
I don't know any so couldn't possibly say
All the strikers are trying to bring down the government
I haven't seen that one either.
Obviously not, but some do.
People do get upset and angry, especially if things affect them which may then confirm their beliefs. Posting on here may help them to relieve their anxieties and annoyance.

I think it's very kind of you to constantly tell us we are wrong volver.
Couldn’t agree more, Katie. I don’t think we show Volver enough gratitude for how she educates us.
volver does annoy me. But so do some of the other longer standing members - it’s a misplaced sense of ‘ownership’ I feel.
I can fight my own battles where it’s worth it though.
As regards the original post, I do wonder whether people live in a very small world and have lost some ability to place things into wider context. There’s too much looking back, too much remembering a better past (it’s always better!) and too much political-based sniping based on a resentment of a long past Brexit or a desire to discard the present government with little discussion of the wider offer from both main parties.
You did ask.
Getting back to volver’s original question,
‘Why do people take these attitudes? Is it just an attempt to make life simple in their minds, when it's anything but?’
I think that is what it is. Some people are interested/involved, and are open minded to learning from what they read and from others, so have a lot of knowledge That can make them come across as pedantic or confrontational, when often it’s frustration because others don’t/can’t take their valid points on board.
Other people are more focussed on other things, less interested in the wider world and the detail of what makes it tick, and they are more likely to take information on face value and (sometimes, not always) exaggerate it.
I think, it’s really about people’s different interest in/attitudes to the world outside their own sphere of knowledge and influence. Their politics actually has very little to do with it, it’s just a convenient hanger.
I think particularly when talking about a culture of misogyny, the whole 'but not my Nigel' is used to try to avoid the discussion. It makes it almost impossible to talk about cultures within organisations such as the Met.

I'm not offended, irritated or annoyed by Volver's posts either.
Some may be, but not everyone.
I should add, me too
But I've always liked people who say exactly what they think
I have come across a few people in life who are, well very two faced and assume as they have erm... hidden depths, so must I...
Not true lol, I have 0 filters
Oh, GG13, You'll think I'm always picking on you. I'm not; I'm really not

What I find
annoyingperverse is when I've been very careful to say 'some' or 'many, so as to avoid generalisation, some poster invariably jumps down my throat to indignantly tell me that they aren't like that. ☹️
Sorry MaizieD I think I am often guilty of replying that not all people/me are like that (usually on the N & P threads).

Some may be, but not everyone.
I'm more irritated by the posters who just join a thread to snipe at another poster and who don't contribute anything relevant..

When some posters state A is true and you say you know that B could also be true as well, or that there may be variables and then they are adamant that they are absolutely correct and are completely intransigent it can be rather annoying.

I think it's a shame that a position that attracts good people who want to make a difference also attracts people who see it as being... idk, either above the law or the maker of their own
But this is a well known phenomenon in other careers too

In his experience he wasn’t holding out much hope. Neither am I.
Endemic is something that's happening regularly in an area/community/organisation right?
Seems like the correct word.
If we said it was "isolated" it would be something that doesn't need addressing.
It does need addressing
This afternoon, Nazia Afzal stated that misogyny is endemic
in the police force. Exaggeration or opinion?
I should have added bullying too, exaggeration also leads to bullying and it seems to me that those prone to exaggeration are prone to downplay their own negative behaviour
It’s concerning though that so many Met police officers are misogynistic, violent men and that so many Tory politicians are corrupt.
I don't trust people who exaggerate and I don't feel they are able to be objective.
Exaggeration is exactly why we have stereotyping and stereotyping leads to racism and homophobia and transphobia and...
Being unable to seperate the deeds of an individual from the demographic they represent shows bigotry.
It just leads to fear, rumour, gossip, conjecture... All that gross stuff
Apologies for diverting thread with schoolboy humour.😊
I would suggest an eggxtra helping of prunes (yuk) tomorrow. If we don’t hear from you tomorrow we will understand you’re otherwise ‘engaged’.
Sorry X post!
😱
Very eggstreme Laura
