Carol Vorderman’s Very Modern Love Life

Hot on the heels of Prince Harry oversharing intimate details of his life we now have Carol Vorderman appearing on 2 daytime programmes letting the public know how free she feels since deciding she would not have just one male relationship in her life, but 5 “special friends” . (‘Friends with benefits’ in other words).

We discuss other TV revelations on GN and I wonder what do you think of this one?

gulligranny 😁

Sounds like Carol has it sussed!

I've realised something about Gransnet this week.

Its just a place where women feel entitled to call other women names, and feel superior to them. Then defend it by saying they asked for it.

What a disappointment.

Totally agree volver, sounds like a witch hunt.

Call it whatever you like.

I will never defend altering one's body and face by such artificial means to the extent Carol has, to conform to a stereotype of what the media - and men - expect.

No-one would criticise or even notice a gentle tweak if that is the only way to manage to continue to work but no-one should have to go to those extremes.
It sends out the wrong messages.

Some people have to have plastic surgery for essential reasons which is quite different.

We'll have to agree to disagree.

If the person concerned goes on national TV to talk about their private lives then it invites debate and consequently people are entitled to express an opinion.

Callistemon exactly.

Vorderman is a symptom of the pornofication of our wider society.

The cause of so many problems that we are seeing at the moment (Andrew Tate and his toxic influence; girls thinking that they don’t want to be women; the acceptability of violence towards women during sex ad nauseam)

It should not be deemed acceptable

Kate1949 Sat 28-Jan-23 11:20:44

It's not a witch hunt. She puts herself out there. She has to expect criticism as well as praise.

TillyTrotter Sat 28-Jan-23 11:33:35

This thread was not intended to be a witch hunt!
It was a genuine interest from me asking why grans think people (Carol and many others) feel the need to broadcast intimate details about their lives.
They know they will get trolled - Carol is certainly intelligent to know that before she spoke out publicly,

Kate1949 Sat 28-Jan-23 11:37:55

Exactly Tilly

Yes Tilly

I'm wondering what the reaction would be from those who accuse others of a witch hunt if a man, having had extensive surgery to make him look quite different to his previous self, went on TV to tell us about his five special female friends.

Would they say this is wonderful? Well done him?
Or ponder on whether or not he's rather sleazy and so risk being called misandrist?

Yammy Sat 28-Jan-23 11:52:24

I agree Tilly they know what they are up to, self-publicists. Who knows she might be among us and having a good laugh about all our comments. She's still got herself noticed on this site and I'm not getting at you Tilly it was an excellent question to ask.
I watched Graham Norton out of interest last night and they are all the same on there, it is very rare these days that you get someone really interesting.

Kate1949 Sat 28-Jan-23 12:00:48

Yes Yammy and no one appears on chat shows now unless they are selling something.

Doodledog Sat 28-Jan-23 12:18:45

Of course it’s not a witch hunt. People are not, on the whole, saying that CV shouldn’t have multiple partners, or that she shouldn’t have so much surgery. Just that we don’t want to be told the details of her sex life.

It’s as bad, IMO to say that women on a discussion board shouldn’t express an opinion about whether we are interested in hearing about other people’s sex lives. It’s very different from whispering about the neighbours behind their backs.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 28-Jan-23 12:22:43

I am neither for or against Carole Vorderman.

She did not reveal any details of her sex life other than to say she had five special friends

She did not say she had sex with each of them every week, she did not give any intimate details or name her friends.

Kate1949 Sat 28-Jan-23 12:23:09

Yes. She can do what she likes, as we all can, but coming on TV and telling people about it is a different matter. It comes across as bragging and 'look how gorgeous I am'. I agree with Fanny. She is setting a bad example.

Kate1949 Sat 28-Jan-23 12:25:33

No she didn't GG. However, she implied it. It was during a phone in about people looking for love. She knew exactly what people would think. She is an intelligent woman.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 28-Jan-23 12:30:43

I see that the right wing rags are using this as a stick to beat her with, because she has very publicly been calling out Tory sleaze , with a good deal of following on social media.

eazybee Sat 28-Jan-23 12:31:11

I have seen pictures recently of the late Gina Lollobrigida and Joan Collins. I don't know what they do to themselves, but they both looked good and appeared to be enjoying life. They both have/had a good sense of humour, able to laugh at themselves, and Carol Vorderman has too.
Doesn't bother me what they get up to.

Doodledog Sat 28-Jan-23 12:34:51

I don't think she needs to 'set an example'. She's not running the country or claiming to be a representative of virtue. What she does in bed and who she does it with is up to her. but assuming that the rest of us wants to be told about it is overstepping, IMO.

I suppose it's fine if the only reports are in gossip magazines that people buy in the knowledge that that's what they are paying for, but it's hardly news.

Strangely enough, whilst channel hopping a few nights ago I caught a Joanna Lumley programme in which she chatted to Gina Lollobrigida. It wasn’t a recent programme but wasn’t too long ago, and she looked amazing for her age and led a really interesting life. I must admit that, until I saw the programme I’d forgotten about her and assumed she was long since gone.

The two things are entirely unrelated 🤔
My opinions are my own, I don't read right-wing rags unless directed to a link on GN!

Well done her, if she is doing that.

Kate1949 Sat 28-Jan-23 12:48:44

No she's not running the country but listening to her in the week, she seems to think she is. The presenters had to cut her off.

Callistemon21 Sat 28-Jan-23 12:51:31

Joan Collins has Percy Gibson, presumably she has no need of special friends.

What would have been referred to as a ‘slapped’ ? Private life should be just that. Too much information and no one really wants to know.

Shropshirelass Wed 01-Feb-23 09:54:33
