Anyone remember Saturday morning pictures? Our cinema had a Wurlitzer that used to rise from below the stage.
What about favourite TV programmes?...Petticoat Junction,Casey Jones,Gilligans Isle,Green Acres.Pussycat Willem,Fred Barker and Ollie Beak,Captain Pugwash,Ivor the Engine.I have to laugh at myself for this..the Flinstones used to go somewhere on their way home and what I thought was a canopy for their car was actually a rack of meat. When Fred threw Dino out of the door at night and he came back through the window, then threw Fred out,why couldn't Fred go back through the window instead of hollering "Wilma" at the top of his voice?

I remember going off to the pictures with the older children in the street, no parents. There was always a B film on before the main event and if we were lucky we had enough money to buy a choc ice or tub of ice cream from the usherette in the interval.

I remember Casey Jones well, I also loved The Hillbillies, The Virginian and Tomorrows People, loved the fact that they could just close their eyes and jaunt from place to place.

Our local cinema was a flea pit! Benches to sit on. I wasn't allowed to go. I remember Noggin the Nog on tv.

We used to go to the Saturday morning pictures at the Essoldo (latterly a bingo hall, now a Co-Op). It was a bit of a flea pit with lots of black stains (old chewing gum?) squashed on the carpet.

We were quite a rowdy lot. If the next film was in black and white we'd boo, and a loud cheer went up if it was in colour.

Oh my God! How stupid was I as a child? It never occurred to me, until you posted this. Of course that's what Fred Flintstone should have done. That was the joke and over 50 years later, I get it grin

I remember Saturday morning cinema at The Rendezvous. The main film was always cowboys and Indians. Roy Rogers, Tex Ritter and others. The backup film, quite often Laurel and Hardy, Norman Wisdom or a cartoon. Popeye, Tom and Jerry etc. I think a child's ticket cost 6d.

We lived just a few doors from the cinema so Saturday morning pictures was a regular part of our week. I think there was a cartoon, an educational film - about animals or volcanoes or somesuch, a half hour programme like The Beverley Hillbillies then a film.

I don’t remember any of the films but I remember the itchy red velvet seats!

Loved it. My one abiding memory is of a girl in my class who had long plaits. At Saturday pictures they would often hang over the back of her seat and rumour had it that a boy cut one off. She did come into school with her hair short on the following Monday. So it might have been true

Gosh I remember Saturday morning cinema. The Three Stooges, Laurel and Hardy or a good cowboy film - Roy Rogers, Hopalong Cassidy, the Cisco Kid, or Davy Crockett who started a craze in furry hats made by harassed mothers with various levels of sewing expertise, and dubious materials! And maybe a cliff hanger so that you’d be sure to turn up the following week! I think it was sixpence to get in. Thinking back on it, it must have been absolute hell for the cinema staff!
Someone mentioned Noggin the Nog upthread. My GS was hooked on Noggin when he was little (me too!). I tried to buy a boxed set of the programmes but they were an outrageous price. I made him peg people based on the characters, and an origami Graculus that could flap its wings. We had lots of fun with them.

Yes I remember it well, think it was 6p to get in. We used to walk about 35 minutes to get there. Occasionally, we would have enough money to buy an ice-cream. I loved every minute of it.

I can remember Saturday morning pictures, I also remember the announcements on the tannoy asking if anyone had a little blonde dog with a black muzzle, if so could they come and collect him from the foyer. Eventually they just called out my name and said paddy paws is here again

Our family dog used to escape (we lived in a pub) and follow me everywhere, even to school and wait in the playground.
