Happy Australia Day! 🇦🇺🦘

It's an interesting one here. I love celebrating Australia Day with family and friends but the First Nations people - or some of them and many more activists believe it should not be celebrated as it is the beginning of genocide by the British settlers. Apologies have been made and many, many concessions as well but for many nothing will ever be enough. Interestingly most of those are people who have benefited from various initiatives.

As I see it what happened happened no one got it all right by a long way but one day does not represent the happenings of history. We cannot change history. We need to move on and make the best of this country for ALL who live in it. We have a lot to be proud of.

A bit like in the US, with Columbus Day being renamed Indigenous People Day I suppose (rather a clumsy name though imo)

I’m not clued up at all, but Australia does seem to be going in the right direction (unlike the totally miserable situation here)
My friend and his young family will be moving there soon, and I can’t say I blame them.
