In view an the excellent thread about us often looking backwards, let's have a thread about looking forwards then.
So, have you anything planned for the next few months?
Would you like to achieve something? Go somewhere?
Learn something new? Meet someone new?
Anything, as long as it involves looking forwards.
I would certainly like to travel somewhere new and hope I achieve that at least.

Taking my GS to see Matilda at the theatre in London in a couple of weeks. In June we are going to see Bonnie Raitt in Oxford. In August it is our silver wedding, so hoping for a family get together. In September we are going to an island called Korcula in Croatia. I try to plan something nice once a month, so that there is always something to look forward to!

Looking forward to going to see 'The Lady in the Van' a local theatre group production in February, a meal out with friends in March to celebrate the retirement of one of the group. The start of rehearsals for 'Me and My Girl' at the Op and Dram Society I'm involved with and our next 'annual girlie holiday' (well long weekend) this year we're off to the beautiful coastline of Northumberland. We have a planning night a month before to decide on menus and places we would like to visit. In the evenings we play game, chat and have a drink, it's a wonderful weekend.

I am so glad for you jennil- tell us how you get on.

i am due to move in March. i am in a flat unsuitable for me as I am disabled, it has meant me being housebound for about 3 years. A couple of weeks ago the council offered me a ground floor, disability adapted flat. New development and not finished yet, it is going to be hard work to arrange the move but I am looking forward to it, at least I will be able to get out.

Can’t wait for my beautiful white clavinova to arrive next week! So excited to revive all my old piano music, some from my childhood. Have wanted a piano for ages….I didn’t even know what a clavinova was until my friend introduced me. Best thing is I can wear earphones and play anytime of day or night without disturbing DH….😂 Can also turn down volume if g children want a go.
Looks and plays just like an acoustic piano and so much easier to install in our first floor sitting room!

Not sure I’m looking forward but hey ho…
DH died last July leaving me rattling in a house which is too big for me and too far away from DD. I’m expecting this house will be sold soon, an apartment purchased the other side of the country and a new life starting up. Again. For the sixth or seventh time since I came to England, but this time I’ll be on my own.

I too am looking forward to spring. My garden is in dire need of a spruce up but having been out there this morning it’s still too chilly for me.
Apart from that I’m hoping my health will improve enough to enjoy getting out a bit more.

To our friend who is disabled and unable to get out too much. There are online games to play with others. I did this with my daughter in law and niece. We played online Connect Four!! I also often play Scrabble online. Look on your local Council on Aging or Senior Center sites, they usually offer transportation[sunshine. Enjoy and be safe

I'm looking forward to grumbling about it being too hot 🤣🤣🤣

I’ll join you!
It’s already disappointingly mild.
I’m currently wearing a t shirt and I’ve got the windows open.

I’m looking forward to going to my grand
Daughters 3 rd birthday in mid February . She just invited us in her sweet little way last night over FaceTime . We live 2.5 hours apart . Hope weather and health don’t prevent us from going !
Since Covid I must admit I’ve become less inclined to be social and don’t look forward to being with groups of people , but this is definitely something to look forward to for me .

Very well put kandinsky

I would encourage anyone who is in a rut to spice it up. Go to a movie once a month. Join a book club. Go bowling. Volunteer. Join a walking group or become a member of an exercise class. Any class. How about day trips to new but probably close towns you never explored. My fiancé and I did that during Covid. I’m looking forward to going to Chamonix (I live in US) with my sister and her group this Friday. I’m having 2 of my granddaughters overnight in Feb. I’m surprising my fiancé with a cruise for his March #65 birthday. And there are several school performances and basketball games to attend for my older grandchildren…..just to name a few! LIVE YOUR LIFE!!

I'm looking forward to getting away in my campervan more now I've finally retired, albeit 6 years later than expected. Had a fabulous weekend with a group of fellow campervan folk and have many more planned. Just me and my Bedlington Whippet puppy Martha. Just need to remember my weekends are 7 days long now lol

Going on our first cruise since Covid in a couple of weeks to the Pacific islands. In May we are off to the Kimberleys. One of our grandchildren is expecting her second baby early March and we are going to her baby shower next week. We are going for lunch with long time friends on Wednesday, will be nice to catch up. Today we went down to Gippsland for another granddaughter’s birthday and had lunch with her, her husband and 3 babies. Life is good just now.

Going to Antarctica next month! It was somewhere I always wanted to go and is incredibly expensive but having sold my house last year what better to spend my money on!

Madwoman11 Mon 30-Jan-23 11:51:36

Kandinsky No ! These coming years should be your time to enjoy life now your family are grown.
Make new friends and get out in different company it will do you the world of good.
I'm older than you and have made the effort to join groups and make new friends. We are the first o the dancefloor and have such fun times.
You could live another 30 years + so please enjoy those years 😊

We’re currently in the process of selling an apartment and buying a villa in Spain- completion next week so really looking forward to picking up the keys and enjoying a gin and tonic in the Spanish sunshine.

This is a tough one - I was thinking about this as I was writing.

But then we must never write about the new baby in the family, the lovely flowers in the garden, the puppy we have adopted, the love we have for OH, the enjoyment of a walk in the woods...

And yes, my heart goes out to those, who, for whatever reason, cannot think of anything to look forward to.

No. I think we have all understood that this is a lovely thread whether or not it is easy.

Thank you GSM for your thoughts.

Loved reading all the posts and getting ideas. After being poorly for 2/3 wks with flu chest infection I’m now busy making plans as I see sun popping through the windows. Lunches with friends, days out with family. Eldest granddaughters 18th and carrying on volunteering for my dog rescue charity. Booking holiday in the sun.

Greyjoy1953 Mon 30-Jan-23 11:38:26

Joane123 Mon 30-Jan-23 11:33:46

Looking forward to the Spring and the garden coming into bloom. The birds down in the wood, which I can see from my bedroom window, are very busy this morning in the sunshine, so Spring must be on the way.

This is such an interesting thread. May I suggest that perhaps some of you who feel bored , lonely or simply sad, could think of joining your local U3A if there is one nearby? It's a great organisation which has many interest groups but also offers the possibility of new friendships and a social life. My U3A offers all the manner of things to try from learning the ukelele to playreading, book clubs, crafts, tai chi, walking for health, and so on. Everyone is ver friendly and welcoming. It is a lifeline for many of our members. It only costs £15 a year to join and £1 or £2 each time you go to a meeting.
