So many wonderful songs, but my favourite has to be "Any Day Now".

I am enjoying watching BBC TV 4 featuring songs but it sad that a lot of the singers we enjoyed dancing to have also died.

"What do you get when you fall in love?
You get enough germs to catch pneumonia and when you do he'll never phone ya....."

Brilliant!

Close to you is my favourite - sung by the fabulous Karen Carpenter.

All the above and more. He was a class act.

Oh gosh so many great songs. Dionne Warwick singing "Walk on By" not necessarily his best song but one which so suited a broken teenage heart. RIP Burt

Long After Tonight Is All Over...a Northern Soul anthem!

I love Make it Easy in Yourself, but I had no idea it was Bacharach & David. I was going to say I Say A Little Prayer

Redhead56 Thu 09-Feb-23 20:24:35

I loved the Walker Brothers Make it Easy on Yourself.

Gillycats

This Guy’s In Love With You, anything that Karen Carpenter and Dusty Springfield sang and the Stranglers version of Walk On By. I have the privilege of seeing Burt in concert in Oxford a few years ago. A truly amazing man.

Oh, lucky you, Gillycats

AGAA4 Thu 09-Feb-23 19:48:05

I love all the songs mentioned.

Close to you sung by The Carpenters, with Karen's pure voice, is beautiful.

What a legacy he has left us.

grannydarkhair Thu 09-Feb-23 19:27:04

Too many wonderful songs for me to pick a favourite.
RIP Burt B.

Radio Scotland playing back to back Burt Bacharach songs, on now. So many, so many artists, all fabulous.

LadyHonoriaDedlock Thu 09-Feb-23 18:13:01

My favourite would have to be I Say A Little Prayer, in Aretha Franklin's version.

sodapop Thu 09-Feb-23 17:59:54

So many wonderful songs. Thanks for the music Burt Bacharach RIP.

Kate1949 Thu 09-Feb-23 17:25:07

Oh yes kitty that's a lovely one. I used to sing part of it to our granddaughter -
On the day that you were born
The angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold and starlight in your eyes of blue
Beautiful smile

A house is not a home 😥
I remember seeing Dionne Warwick live when her
Walk on By was a hit.

Granny23 Thu 09-Feb-23 17:21:13

"what was your favourite song? " should be what IS your favourite. Burt may be gone but we still have his wonderful music - his legacy for us all.

kittylester Thu 09-Feb-23 17:19:36

Close to you is my favourite - sung by the fabulous Karen Carpenter.

Those eight number ones in full:

The Story of my Life — Michael Holliday (1958)
Magic Moments — Perry Como (1958)
Tower of Strength — Frankie Vaughan (1961)
Anyone Who Had A Heart — Cilla Black (1964)
Always Something There To Remind Me — Sandie Shaw (1964)
Make It Easy On Yourself — The Walker Brothers (1965)
This Guy's In Love With You — Herb Alpert (1968)
I'll Never Fall In Love Again — Bobbie Gentry (1969)

As so often, it's not the number ones that are the greatest hits in the long term. None of them by Dionne Warwick, for whom Bacharach and David wrote so often, either although she had several near misses.

TerriBull Thu 09-Feb-23 17:02:47

This guy's in love with you and Walk on by spring to mind. I think he wrote Anyone who had a heart too.

RIP reached a great age I believe.

Greyduster Thu 09-Feb-23 16:59:46

When DH and I were going out together his songs were on everyone’s lips. We loved his music so much; still have a Dionne Warwick CD. My favourite? “Walk on By”.
A musical genius. RIP.

Kate1949 Thu 09-Feb-23 16:54:53
