Lent, what if anything are you giving up?

I am determined to not swear for at least the duration and hopefully once the habit has been broken continue. Limiting my time on GN should help with this 🤣

I am also giving up biscuits, crisps and the small amount of chocolate I consume.

(Did think of giving up alcohol, but unfortunately we have multiple family celebrations and nights out planned so I intend to limit as opposed to abstain)

I gave up chocolate last year and when I had it after 47 days I'd gone off it. I've since gone back on it, but don't want that happening again! Will have to think of somethig else this year. Might give biscuits a go instead.

Nothing for me, I’m not particularly religious.

pascal30 Tue 21-Feb-23 14:04:35

No I'm with all the abstainers ...so nothing

PoppyFlower Tue 21-Feb-23 13:28:07

I will give the "give up worrying" a go too! But I'm worried I won't be able to stop worrying....😒

HettyBetty Tue 21-Feb-23 13:24:20

No. It's irrelevant to me as I'm not a Christian and I already eat fairly healthily. I'm not going to give up my habit of a couple of squares of dark chocolate two or three times a week.

I'll join all the worriers if I may....it would be wonderful to have no worries!
I'll try hard to give up night time nibbles/wine, no snacking after evening meal.
I think I'll have to go to bed at 7 pm.🤣

HousePlantQueen Tue 21-Feb-23 13:19:03

Nope. I fail to see why I should make life even harder for myself.

I sometimes give up something during Lent. Often chocolate but I’ve had a (failed) go at giving up cursing.
It’s a small attempt at discipline rather than faith
I feel I’ve had enough challenges since this time last year. I aim to look after myself

That’s a good plan, Fanny. As well as giving up worrying, I think I’ll give up migraines, too.

Juliet27 Tue 21-Feb-23 12:43:52

A good plan LRavenscroft - I should take up your idea

Doodle Tue 21-Feb-23 12:43:30

Fanny I would love to give up worrying too. If only.

Doodle Tue 21-Feb-23 12:42:39

Giving up Chocolate, cakes and biscuits plus spending time on the C of E Lent readings Dust and Glory.

Juliet27 Tue 21-Feb-23 12:41:42

Today I’d quite happily give up my H 😡

Hetty58 Tue 21-Feb-23 12:35:41

I feel no compulsion to give up anything. Why should I? Lent is irrelevant to me - and most people I should think. Is it about religion or tradition? (No New Year resolutions here, either.)

fiorentina51 Tue 21-Feb-23 12:28:35

Carbohydrates.

LRavenscroft Tue 21-Feb-23 12:11:37

I am going to try to give up being lazy. - my one big indulgence. Seriously, with the better weather I am trying to get out walking each and everyday to see the beautiful spring arriving.

Norah Tue 21-Feb-23 12:06:50

Today began with delicious pancakes, syrup, and berries- will end with chocolate. Tomorrow, forward to Easter, no sugar or chocolate.

My husband gave up alcohol. He selects a big challenge.

pandapatch Tue 21-Feb-23 11:54:01

Oh if only I could give up worrying!!!

Fleurpepper Tue 21-Feb-23 11:27:55

Sounds like a great plan gmb

Grandmabatty Tue 21-Feb-23 11:18:34

I'm going to give up giving up

timetogo2016 Tue 21-Feb-23 11:16:20

For the right price i will give up anything.
Just ask my X.

Squiffy Tue 21-Feb-23 11:13:15

Oh Fanny, I'll join you, too, if I may.

I, also, need to give up procrastinating. (- and yet, here I am on GN! blush)

Jaxjacky Tue 21-Feb-23 11:06:31

I’m giving up my aspiration to date David Gandy.
In reality, as I don’t have a sweet tooth, I’ll give up my Friday night in the pub packet of cheese and onion.

crazyH Tue 21-Feb-23 11:01:26

FC - I’m with you

Kate1949 Tue 21-Feb-23 10:59:56

Oh Fanny I'm with you on that one. I'm going to try that.
