I like sugar, lemon juice and golden syrup.

Only once a year!

I have just made scotch pancakes. The first one was perfect.

😁

We're having pancakes for tea. 🥞

How do you like yours?
DH likes marmalade
I like classic lemon and sugar.

I remember this rhyme as a child:

Mix a pancake,
Stir a pancake,
Pop it in the pan.
Fry a pancake,
Toss a pancake,
Catch it if you can!

I then taught it to my many classes of infants!

That’s the rhyme I remember🙂

I forgot pancake day too and it is the only time I have them so no pancakes for me 🙁

Only takes a couple of minutes to mix up. Go for it!

I have them quite often too.
I cook small fat (American type) ones when the grandchildren are here though as I can fit several in the pan at once.

BlueBelle Tue 21-Feb-23 16:02:11

Oh is it pancake day today ?
I have pancakes whenever I fancy them haven’t thought about it for today 🙄

You can make vegan ones too. I've done it with flour and variations on water, almond milk, soya milk, almond milk etc. If you put some oil on and stir well it seems to be OK.

Anyone remember singing this as a child?

“Pancake Tuesday, Mother’s busy baking,
We are helping, lovely pancakes making.
Drop the pancake quickly in the pan now,
Toss it up, and catch it if you can now!”

Always think of this on Shrove Tuesday, bit sexist nowadays, poor Mum was expected to do it all back then!

Grammaretto

Too true! grin
Is there such a thing as a vegan pancake BTW?

Yes

We call them "pan cleaners". Sometimes consumed as the cook's perk!

HousePlantQueen Tue 21-Feb-23 13:24:43

I love 'pour le chien'. My DD (second child) says the first child (her older brother) is the equivalent of the first pancake, and she as the second child is, of course, perfect. And modest

grannyrebel7 Tue 21-Feb-23 13:11:33

The French call the first one "pour le chien" which means for the dog. Doing mine tonight. Love pancakes 🥞

My dog waits for the first one!

Indeed. The first Tuesday pancake is dog treats.

Grandmabatty Tue 21-Feb-23 12:48:55

No idea. I made them for breakfast and had the first dodgy one (and some more.)

Whitewavemark2 Tue 21-Feb-23 12:48:47

Well this year I waited until the pan was steaming, much more and it would have caught fire😄

25Avalon Tue 21-Feb-23 12:47:12

Thank goodness I’m not the only one. Maybe the pan hasn’t warmed through sufficiently.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 21-Feb-23 12:44:53

Just yummed our pancakes for lunch.

Why does the first one cooked never work properly? After that everyone is perfect.
