ga I hope things improve for you. We've had some terrible years
Fortunately last year wasn't too bad (I'm scared to say it), apart from my brother being very ill, thankfully recovered. We too have had a kitchen fire. It's awful.

grannyactivist sorry to hear of your troubles recently. Our last year was one of the worse ever too. I hope things brighten up for you (and everyone else having a bad time) soon.

Grannyactivist I’ve been on Gransnet a long time and have seldom come across anyone as strong and proactive as you, but the fire must have been a real blow. It’s something I dread. Last year was the worst year of my life, and this year, on my worst days, I just can’t get past the sea of difficulties and “what ifs” that stretch out in front of me. But as Kitty said, we women have inner strengths. And did someone mention gin??

Grannyactivist
We had a kitchen fire a couple of years ago, the insurance company sent in a team who cleaned the whole downstairs, every item out of every cupboard was cleaned and replaced.
All the curtains were taken away for expert cleaning, and all the carpets were cleaned.
It was scary at the time, but honestly, our home had never been so clean.
I know how you feel though, every year my husband says, well hopefully this will be a better one, but so far this year, we are having the same problems and dramas, and I honestly don’t see an end in sight.

I'd like to have a year refunded too. March 2022-March 2023 would suit me just fine.
Could probably manage with the 2022/2023 tax year if that's easier?

Thank you!

We can have gin as well!

I truly sympathise with you and smoke damage from a house fire must be so horrible to cope with. I am glad you are safe though.
I also would have liked to skip the last few years since 2020 really. I have never known such a bad spell in my life.
All things have to pass though and I am convinced things will get better eventually.

Hey ho - we are women and we are strong. And we have gn!!

Is it bad that I read that as "we have gin"...?

grannyactivist I hope the insurance company are proving helpful and making everything good for you.

Horrible thing to deal with ga. I well remember a kitchen fire when our two were young. Terrifying it the moment the smoke damage took weeks to clear. I hope it’s easily sorted, and you go on to have a calm and less stressful Spring flowers.

We said last year was cancelled. Wouldn’t mind skipping the current bit of this year. We can do this, even if we don’t want to is our current motto.

Sorry you are having a rough time of it, ga. We had a small kitchen fire years ago and can empathise re the smoke damage.

Last year was not good for us and this year hasn't started too brilliantly.

Hey ho - we are women and we are strong. And we have gn!!

grannyactivist thank goodness no-one was hurt and I hope everything gets better soon.

I have realised that New Year is just a constructed concept, things don't necessarily change because the date changes.

Sometimes one thing hits us after another but I hope you can see some light on the horizon.

flowers I’m sorry things are so difficult for you.

Although some things were good for us last year the rest of it was probably the worst year we’ve ever had and we’ll be dealing with the aftermath for some time yet. I’d like everyone to stay the same age we are now but fast forward five years.

2022 was such a truly horrible year that I couldn’t wait for it to end, but I really don’t like the way 2023 is shaping up either.

We’ve had lots of diverse problems to deal with, but the icing on the cake was a recent kitchen fire. Nobody was hurt and we are insured, but the smoke damage is horrendous.

My daughter called me a couple of days ago and itemised the long list of stressful things I’ve already had to deal with this year before wailing, “And it’s still only February Mummy”.
