So once you've been a GN member for a whilte, been around the block a few times, you'll have witnessed some feeding frenzies on controversial topics.

Some of those I remember from yester year are:

* Baby milk shortage (being bought up and sold overseas)

* Boris Johnson (at one point praised for his intelligence, yes, really!)

* Jeremy Corbyn (a real Marmite character)

*Anything to do with trans issues.

What are some of the topics that have caused metaphorical fisticuffs that you remember?

The loo brush and the dishwasher was definitely on a Gransnet thread, back in July last year.

It was a colleague who cleaned it in the dishwasher, not the GN’er though.

We have a toilet mat -actually more than one for the reason you mention. The problem is, what do others who have them put with it in the washing machine? Towels? Dog’s blankets?

I have pedestal mats in the loos. Not to catch drips as there are no men here but to keep my bare feet off the cold tiles.

I remember reading about the dishwasher on here but don't know where it originated 🤮

I remember that too. Only seems a couple of weeks ago.

Around COVID: wearing masks, gloves, should post and shopping be doused in bleach or left in the garden for three days. Constant use of diinfectant, bleach and handwashing when indoors and alone

I actually left GN for six months because I found the paranoid threads on COVID so disturbing.

It all seems so silly now doesn’t it? I laughed about leaving the shopping in the garden for three days, would be mostly unusable after that.

Yeah.cause sausages not a regular thing...

Nannan2 Sat 04-Mar-23 13:47:14

Yes Riverwalk i do to all 3 (i dont think im too fat though, just a tad over)🤔🤨

Keffie12 Sat 04-Mar-23 13:16:30

Yup I do! Tattoos and leggings. The sausages I can take or leave.

As for B word, one of my tattoos is related to that. I'm a #HardRemainer now #HardRejoiner involved with the rejoin alliances in the background

I'm also a H & M supporter so that's me outed where I am on threads 😉

More Mumsnet than Gransnet, but threads about having/not having baths or washing your hair every day always get people excited.
And how often to wash your sheets and towels.
I'm on the grubby, less often side myself.

Or a bidet.

We had one but there wasn't really room for it when we refitted the bathroom. sad
I could sit on the toilet (with the lid down) and soak my feet in the bidet in lovely warm soapy water. Bliss.

Yes, we moved and have no space now. I really miss it.

Wearing pajamas outdoors. That seems to stir a bit of passion.

And pyjamas in Asda. I've seen it and it isn't nice....

English grammar, family moving abroad, face masks.

Oh, lovely!

My RA consultant (he was a bit eccentric) told me that he put his loo brush in the dishwasher and suggested I put my splints in it, to clean them.

I’m a member of various Facebook specific dog breed groups. Many disagreements there about washing dog bowls, kongs etc in the dishwasher ( yes I do)

I put the dog bowls in the dishwasher, they get cleaned at a high temperature.

I wish I could put the loo in there.

sodapop Fri 03-Mar-23 19:40:25

Definitely impressive, are you making a career out of wielding the loo brush now.

VioletSky Fri 03-Mar-23 17:58:54

There are lots of news articles about someone saying it, even The Guardian wrote one lol

Elegran Fri 03-Mar-23 17:54:53

Maybe they just said that they put the loo brush in the dishwasher so that they could laugh at the horror it caused? That kind of thing has certainly been done before.

FannyCornforth Fri 03-Mar-23 17:52:07

Oh no.
That's broken me.

The Internet is a bad bad place

It’s almost certainly an urban myth.
It’s been knocking about for years and years
