So once you've been a GN member for a whilte, been around the block a few times, you'll have witnessed some feeding frenzies on controversial topics.

Some of those I remember from yester year are:

* Baby milk shortage (being bought up and sold overseas)

* Boris Johnson (at one point praised for his intelligence, yes, really!)

* Jeremy Corbyn (a real Marmite character)

*Anything to do with trans issues.

What are some of the topics that have caused metaphorical fisticuffs that you remember?

"Scottish independence?" I have long thought that there should be a dedicated topic for all things Scottish, where Scottish Grans could share and debate political and cultural issues to their heart's content without boring or annoying members who have no interest in, or knowledge of, the matters being discussed. I'm bearing in mind that many laws, benefits, educational matters are different in Scotland to those in RUK.
If we can have topics for Pets, pendants, Arts/Crafts, Why not one for the (1 assume around 10% of Gransnetters) who have a particular interest in Scottish matters?

Why?

Scotland is part of the UK and we are entitled to an opinion.
We will only gain knowledge and insight if we read the threads.

I SO remember the misandry posts. Always having a pop at the lovely late Phoenix

Yes, missing the point entirely when the lovely phoenix related amusing tales about Mr P, whom she obviously loved dearly.

The irony was astonishing.

Wearing pajamas outdoors. That seems to stir a bit of passion.

Has anybody mentioned the great Toilet Roll Drought of 2020 yet?

Whilst there have been bun fights on certain issues on GN, they pale into insignificance compared to some of those on MN and the language is rather more colourful. Particularly riveting are Parking Wars, Guests who come to stay, especially uninvited, and then may never go shock Anything relating to "cheeky f***ery", Bridezilla, Hen away breaks and the costs involved, and of course, given the younger demographic although it has cropped up on here too "The Mother-i-law" or indeed mother for that matter who demand their time alone with overnight stays with newly arrived baby grandchild, always a shocker imo!

I did find a previous male poster's obsession with misandry a bit weird. which stalked the threads of GN apparently! and which he threatened to expose to the world, and indeed allegedly related much of it back to his colleagues which could be any time of the day and night as he worked around the clock keeping the nation supplied with all manner of essentials during the early days of Brexit.

I still miss poor, misunderstood Frank and his London pension.

Did anyone mention handbags ?

Those threads certainly kept us busy!

Oh yes the aerodynamic ones!

FannyCornforth Wed 01-Mar-23 09:46:50

There was a chap who left soon after I joined.
His posts really amused me.
He was always showing off about something : his wife; his car; his wife’s shoe collection etc; and, at one point, his cruet set (not a euphemism 🤭)

The OP never coming back or hating the advice they get

In a similar vein, a poster starting an ‘introduction’ thread to declare themselves a new member;
getting a warm and fulsome welcome; and then never to post on that, or indeed any other, thread again.

That really gets on my goat

How did you choose your GN name?
The Diana, saint or sinner one which is currently being resurrected, I see.

Does anyone admit to wearing leggings, having a tattoo and likes sausages? grin

Me! Me!
(But vegetarian sausages only - preferably Cauldron Lincolnshire ones, and definitely not the ones with bits of vegetable in them)

My favourite was a highly aggressive (and absolutely hilarious) bun fight about a woman in the HoC who wore a revealing top. How dare she....or.....why not? Some people took it very seriously whilst others were splitting their sides.

From the beginnings of GN.
Frank, his little dog, and him doing a Bums and Tums class.
Anyone remember?

Fond memories!
