Humbertbear, I've never heard of the Left Book Club. I'm now going to do some research.

PerkyPiggy Fri 03-Mar-23 16:05:28

Stansgran, do you have a photo?

Humbertbear Fri 03-Mar-23 15:54:18

I’ve collected stamps since I was very little and books about polar exploration. Oh, and volumes published by the Left Book Club in the 30s. I have about 30 to track down.

I collect dust, cheap and easy to get rid of.

I collect feeding cups. My grandmother gave me the one she had when she cared for her husband who died of yellow fever in South Africa. My mother thought it was dreadful so I hid it among a lot of them, some very pretty designs. Friends who had them and didn’t know what to do with them ended up giving theirs to me. I’ve quite a large collection now.

That fox is beautiful! Definitely my kind of thing.

I collect old books.
And dust!😄

This is the fox.
She looks like she is out of a fairy tale

Oh they are really sweet!
They look quite 1960s / 1970s.
The 1990s must have been quite good time for the manufacture collectible animals etc.
I’ve got a gorgeous fox from a car boot. It’s got no markings on it.
I thought that was quite old, but I recently discovered that it was actually made in 1998.
I bought a companion for it a couple of weeks ago from eBay.

Ohmother

I’m a collector of clutter!! I try to get rid but find my DH has put it somewhere in our full up garage ‘just in case’ 🫣

Me too!

I try to keep my hands in my pockets, but I do like blue and white china (and pot) and vintage glassware. So I avoid charity shops and antique shops. I've enough clutter without adding to it now... grin

PerkyPiggy Fri 03-Mar-23 14:10:44

Here you are Fanny. I bought my first one in 1996. They are all individually named by the company that manufactured them. Unfortunately, the company no longer make them, or have any in stock. I now have to rely on eBay etc to find the ones that I don't already have.

No, I'm not a collector of anything. My husband is though. He collects coins, usually special editions.

Kim19 Fri 03-Mar-23 13:31:55

If involved anyone of cleaning, I'm out.

I am known for my love of penguins. Consequently, I have a huge collection of them, not bought by me but given to me as gifts from family and friends. I have everything from lighters, to torches, jewellery fluffy toys, a giant door stop, a life sized china one, a framed picture, dishtowels, a throw and a duvet cover. In winter the small ones live on a big windowsill, where they sit in the sunshine on a carpet of cotton wool snow. In summer they hibernate.

Fleurpepper Fri 03-Mar-23 12:31:29

No, never been a collector.

kittylester Fri 03-Mar-23 12:30:41

I collected Motto ware but most of it is packed away now with just a few 'special' pieces still out. It was worth next to nothing when I bought it and still is.

Grandmabatty Fri 03-Mar-23 12:14:05

I used to collect elephants and still have quite a few in my house, but I managed to off load many

FannyCornforth Fri 03-Mar-23 12:02:38

Hello smile
Can you post a photo of some of the cats close up please Piggy?
I love Beswick too. It’s sooo shiny and it reminds me of the china animals my Nan used to have.
It’s charming, I’ve got two foxes and two pheasant to represent the resident wildlife.
I’ve considered collecting the dogs…
I’ve got a few Crown Derby animals. I’ll post a photo later.
I definitely have the gene too Piggy, but not the space sadly!

I used to collect teapots. I had one that had been handed down through the family and must have been quite old but still in perfect condition. I had to let them go when I downsized.

I only kept a few - one that was hand-painted in Zimbabwe and is beautiful.

Apart from what I collect to resell in my online shops I personally collect Islamic furniture, vintage fabrics and books on art, costume and design.

All antiques dealers begin as collectors.

PerkyPiggy Fri 03-Mar-23 11:37:37

I have the "collector gene". It means that if I find something I particularly like I am "condemned" to collecting it! I collect whisky jugs (but I loathe whisky). I also collect old enamel advertising signs, vintage pub mirrors, Fireside poetry books and a specific range of china cats. (I have 42 of them!!!) I almost forgot that I also collect Beswick Birds. I'm genuinely interested in the items that other people collect.
